Wanted to check them out, and see what they had to offer. They took me straight to billing before I could see their menu. Not impressed! I'll stick with their competitor.

I selected the 4 meals for 2 people to be delivered on Monday. The first box, which was just last week, never delivered. FedEx uploaded a picture of the delivery without any landmarks--I live in an apartment, so the most I could see was that it was in one of the multiple buildings. It was not in my building or the next. Blue Apron was kind enough to give me a credit on my account. Now today (21st), Tuesday, I still haven't received my Monday box. It was delayed in transit, which means the food is one day older... I am moving on from Blue Apron and going back to HelloFresh (have never had delivery issues with them).

I canceled my subscription but was still charged for a extra week. We received a box with busted open mayonnaise spilled all over the other ingredients, reaching out to support I received a $0.90 credit, what a slap in the face! The recipes are amazing, that's why I gave them 2 stars, but the customer service is horrible and they are very clearly money hungry.

We knew we were in for a bad time when we first opened the box and all of the ingredients are randomly tossed together with a few smaller ingredients in unmarked bags that you have to rummage through. A lot of the directions are off on certain cook times and such that you really have to be aware of to avoid ruining the food. Worst of all is we paid extra for a specific meal and they left out over half of the ingredients! My experience using Blue Apron
Overall, using Blue Apron wasn't the best experience, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I enjoy cooking and Blue Apron's fast and easy to cook meals were a little too simple.

Food quality
The food was always fresh when it arrived and could last a few days in the fridge, or, if you need to wait longer to make certain meals, the food was fine being frozen.

Taste
Blue Apron's food never tasted bad, but it didn't taste high quality either. That's likely due to the fact that most of their food simply didn't call for enough spice. Once I added more salt or pepper or chili flake (you get the point), the food was a little better, but still fairly bland.

For the cost of Blue Apron, I don't feel that the food quality is necessarily worth it. You pay upwards of $50 for two meals a week (and that's just dinner), so you'll need to go grocery shopping anyway, and by the time you've bought everything you need, Blue Apron's price doesn't seem very budget friendly.

Recipe cards
For the most part, the recipes led you in the right direction. But, as I said above, for those who have never, or rarely made full meals, the recipe cards can be hard to follow. You're told to do multiple tasks at once—which is hard even for more experienced home cooks, and there's a lot of assumption that you know how to chop vegetables properly, know how to add the right spices, and multi-task.

In my experience with other meal delivery services (Plated, for example), the recipe cards have helpful tips that instruct you how to do every single step, no matter how small.

They keep sending orders not asked for until you try and contest with your credit card co. And they refuse to give you credit. Once they have your account they refuse to stop. Do not give them a card no. They also are not concerned with the environment as they use excessive plastic packaging.

I received a week of meals and although the recipes were simple to follow and they tasted good enough the problem for me was every single recipe required that the protein (chicken or beef) was fried in 2 tablespoons of oil. I don't eat fried foods. Most of what I eat is baked, broiled or barbecued. So this was a problem. One recipe had me fry everything, proteins and veggies. It called for a total of 6 tablespoons of oil over all. So for that reason, until they come up with recipes that aren't fried I've cancelled the plan.

I received 1 week of Blue Apron for my birthday, and was curious about the whole system - this is nothing I would have ordered on my own. Received package with recipes and ingredients for 3 meals, and found a moldy head of garlic, a red pepper with a rotten end, a cucumber that was squishy at one end, and a tiny head of endive that revealed rotten tips on the inner leaves. I cancelled my account and let customer service know about the condition of the vegetables. They offered a $19.98 credit, but only if I reactivated my account and ordered more food! I don't want anymore food - I just want some compensation for the sub-par produce! At the price they charge, I think it's reasonable to expect premium produce. Also, the meals were supposed to feed 2 - but I needed to augment the menu with big green salads I made from my own ingredients in order to fill up my husband! Finally, the prep time stated on the instruction card is a joke - each dinner took me at least twice as long to prepare, and I am no novice in the kitchen!

I decided to give Blue Apron a try when I heard everyone raving about it. I thought it would be an easy way to cook a meal for my family and cook a healthy meal at the same time. I placed my first order, excited to see what I was going to get! Well, the first disappointment came when I received my box. It literally looked like it had been drop kicked from the curb to my door! I took pictures of this to show Blue Apron because I was positive no one would believe a box was delivered in such condition! The items inside were ok, but a can of beans was dented. I threw that out--I had always heard not to use dented cans so I substituted my own can of beans. I started to open the packages that were in good condition and make my meal for the night. I didn't realize the meat came frozen, so I actually had to wait a day for it to thaw. The recipe was bbq chicken "burgers" with coleslaw and potato crisps. The cabbage was half brown, so I didn't use that either. The potato was ok as well as the chicken, etc. I made the recipe but to be honest, the cost was not worth it. They give you tiny individual packets of spices and ingredients, it's less money to buy your own ingredients and make the recipes. My family liked the chicken, but it was very expensive and not worth it in my opinion. I didn't think the food was packed very well in the box, hence the dented can, and it also didn't seem as "fresh" as I would have expected (brown cabbage). Tried it once, would not try it again. I could download recipes and make my own meals.

When I called they said they would reimburse me for 2 meals, but what she was attempting to say was that they would credit it the next time I ordered. This is my first box... now my last.

Hype describes this menu. So called unique food that is average. People you can do the same food but half the cost if you would take time to learn. Use good quality shrimp, pasta, marinara & a few spices. Voila-you have a meal. It isnt rocket science. Vegetables grow in dirt weather organic in the USA or Chile. Talk to your grandparents, they can teach you how to grocery shop & cook. Its not new. Stop thinking that grocery shopping & eating healthy are trivial matters. I would be writing a better review if Blue Apron provided meals that my 84yr old mother would eat. Balanced nutritional meals that arent revolting. Mother is not going to try squid ink pasta, or purple potatoes; my grandchildren wouldnt touch it either. So who is eating this food? Adults who want to look special. Get over yourselves.

I really like the meals I made with Blue Apron. The recipes were creative, easy and delicious. The food was generally well packaged. However, they simply do not have their packing/distribution system figured out. On average, nearly every other delivery was missing an ingredient. Sometimes just a small one (like a spice), sometimes a major one (like the peppers that were in the title of the recipe). They were prompt about apologizing and providing some credit on the next order, but realistically, you subscribe to these services so you don't have to go to the grocery store. I don't care about the money, I care about being able to make the meal in the recipe reliably, every week. I held on for a long time, hoping they'd get their act together, but they never did. They would also never engage in a discussion or explanation - just "So sorry! We'll pass your concern along. Here's some credit!" which I found really frustrating.

I received blue Apron as a wedding gift. I was very excited to try it out. The thought of fresh ingredients ready to cook delivered to my door with a recipe was very appealing. Opening the box I was extremely impressed. The ingredients were fresh and very organized. However, what I thought would help me spend less time in the kitchen I ended up spending 4 times as much. The recipes are way too complex and use strange ingredients that are more of an acquired taste. You get to choose what is delivered each week but you only get to choose from a handful of ingredients. My first delivery I hated every recipe so my second delivery I made my own meals out of the ingredients. But I spent over an hour just prepping the vegetables. Would be way more awesome if the ingredients came prepped and ready to cook. Again cool idea but I spent way too much time in the kitchen for dinners I hated.

My wife and I tried Blue Apron for a couple weeks. I am a vegetarian and she rarely eats meat so we opted for the vegetarian selections. The price remained the same at approx. $60. So for 3 meals, basically 6 servings, we paid $10 per serving (for veggies and chickpeas as main dishes). I can buy groceries for a week for $60. The time it takes to prepare these meals is quite ridiculous. The time you save by not going to the grocery store is spent in the kitchen toasting nuts and making special sauces which require more effort than it's worth. Although the quality is great, I cannot justify $10 per serving. I am reviewing the vegetarian option only as I have heard good things about the options with meat from my family members.

I order two weeks in a row, 4 meals total. My first order came (1st 2 meals), Inreceived damaged veggies and a wrong ingredient. I did contact customer service and the gave a me a small credit toward my next order. The second order came (the last 2 meals) and I received a bad potato and could not even make a full side of fries because of it. I did contact customer service but they were only going to give me a credit if I order again, which I will not. I chose the family of 4 meals, they are maybe enough for 2 people, not a family of 4. Blue apron needs to really check their quality control before things ship out.

I have been a customer of Blue Apron since 12/2015. I've gotten lots of my friends to sign up, and I've never cancelled my service since I joined. Sadly, I've finally had it with the service. I've had COUNTLESS boxes not show up on my delivery date. One would think that this would be a problem with my zip code, or my post office, or some other issue with my location. However, my friends in the same zip code have received their boxes EVERY SINGLE time. So, Im the lone unlucky one in my zip code. I get all of my other boxes and deliveries from Amazon.com and all of the other places I order from (Im a big online shopper). Every time my box doesnt show up, Ive got excuses that dont end up making any sense because of the fact that others in my town are receiving their boxes just fine. I get the box credited to me every single time, and its as if Blue Apron feels that they are doing me a huge favor when I get my refund. Its actually not a big deal to receive a refund on something I never received. One time, after I was frustrated and upset for not receiving my box, and had to ask for an additional discount, I received two more boxes for free. That was a nice gesture, but Id rather just have my boxes show up on time. Blue Apron is meant for convenience, so when it doesnt show up - and given that Blue Aprons ONLY JOB is to send me a box every week - I have to totally change my schedule around to accommodate for the lack of service. Blue Apron constantly blames their shippers, but TWO DIFFERENT shipping companies have been in charge of the deliveries and they are still getting screwed up. And, in the 9 years that Ive lived here, I have never ONCE not gotten a box or a shipment. Given the details of my homes history of receiving every single box Ive ever ordered, its clear that Blue Apron is to blame. So, this week, I got an email saying my box was on its way, and, in usual fashion, I get an email from the Supervisor who is supposed to be managing my shipments every week, saying that a storm is to blame for this weeks box not showing up. SERIOUSLY?! Every other friend of mine got their BA box and I received every single other thing I ordered this and last week. Instead of trying to permanently fix this issue, I get the runaround every single time. Perhaps if I take my concerns to social media, I will finally get a resolution to this ongoing and extremely frustrating issue.

I used the service for 3 months and initially the quality of the products was good and there was excellent variety. After the first month, The produce was suboptimal. There were insects in the snow peas and the peas were chewed up in parts. There was mold on the peppers and parts of the pepper were liquified. Scallions were translucent and soggy. Zucchini was very soggy. My friend, who used the service for the same time period, found a dead lizard in her produce and a portion of another dead lizard when she started to chop up the bok choy.
Tomatoes were cracked and soggy. When I notified the company and sent photos they informed me that this happens with fresh produce. They did give me a credit of $24 but I really wanted safe food.
The side dishes were very generous but the protein portions were at the small end. I ended up purchasing fresh produce and more chicken in order to prepare a full meal for two people. Even though the portion size was small, the quality of the meat/chicken/shrimp was good. The other seafood was fishy (Alaskan pollock not so good).
The recipes were interesting and the variety was great. My husband really liked the meals because of the red pepper/hot sauce/spiciness. If it wasn't for the scary produce I probably would have continued with this program. But after 3 months, I was a little uneasy about what I might find when I opened up the box...
Maybe it was just bad luck for me and for my friend but it is interesting that we both had the same negative experience.
I am planning to try a different company as I like the idea of preparing and cooking fresh meals.

Terrible customer service
Missing ingredients and when you call them they say there is nothing they can do
Menu is ok, not healthy at all though
Packaging is an overkill, a real waste

I would not recommend Blue Apron.
I would recommend Hello Fresh!

Had a referral from a friend who uses blue apron. Was charged full price and then received a credit. Paused my next meals while I tasted what I had received. Not worth the money. Was out of town and away from e-mail when I found a pending charge on my credit card. Cancelled the service and will dispute the charge. All communication so far has been negative. No customer service...

Decent food but "we want you back, 3 free meals" turns out to be three free servings. Customer service refused to do anything. Then we sent a gift card to friends but they couldn't redeem it. Other friends of ours felt the "we want you back" emails were misleading as well.

At first I enjoyed this service and was satisfied with most of the recipes (they are a bit heavy on cole-slaw variations as sides so if you don't enjoy a mayo/vinegar/veggie mix this would be a disappointment).
Then I started receiving orders where the produce was going bad after 1-2 days. Since these deliveries are only once a week with 3 meals included it isn't practical for the meals to go bad before you can cook them.
My most recent order had the package of Cod fish torn when it arrived and all the liquid from the fish leaked on the rest of the ingredients making them unusable. There also weren't ingredients included for all the recipes on the card, it is as if they packed ingredients for totally different recipes than I received.
I have submitted multiple requests to customer service for a refund or credit and haven't received a response.
I am cancelling my subscription due to this. I basically had to throw $60.00 in the garbage can and Blue Apron refuses to communicate with me. It also irks me that paying $60.00 a week for 3 meals doesn't guarantee that ingredients will be usable. I end up having to buy replacement ingredients while grocery shopping due to expired/rotting produce I receive in the deliveries.
