My complaint to the regulators allowing Big Lots and most all businesses to commit fraud now!
January 10, 2024

I ordered $118.24 in products from Big Lots Centralia IL store 1/9/2024, 30 items. They sent email of receipt of order and it was missing seven items off my original order but charging me the same price. I have copies of the original order, the order they show they received, the order status screen which showed the same as my original order and the refund email and all documentation. I then received the pickup email which still incorrectly listed I was picking up 29 items, the order was for 30 items not 29, they also did not show the seven missing items from the original order but were still trying to charge me the full amount for the 30 items but only give me 23 items. I then called the Big Lots store in Centralia IL where I was to pickup and told the manager Matt I wanted the order and amount charged to my debit card corrected or I would not be picking the order up and would cancel it. He claimed he could not see the discrepancies and that only corporate office could abd that they only send them a sheet to pull the order of the items. He claimed he could not correct anything but could cancel the order so he did so. I kept him on the phone until I received the cancellation email which I also have a copy of. He assured me my account had not been charged and that they don't actually charge your card until you pick the order up, it should only be pending and should fall off of my account overnight. I checked this morning and it did NOT fall off but is still pending and I then contacted US Banks fraud department and they looked and said it had not even been reversed yet! They said they had to wait until it posted to the account to dispute the charge! I called Big Lots corporate and talked to Coarence and he said it has been reversed but can take up to 5 business days to crest back to my account! They are committing fraud, it is intentional, they are messing up orders to steal from people and most are too stupid to notice their missing items and when they can't steal that way they are intentionally losing on to the funds from cancelled orders or returns for up to 10 business days and using the publics money to finance their further orders and keep their businesses afloat or they invest it to make more money! It is an interest free loan they are taking from the public and no different then floating hot checks and is FRAUD! I have reported it to the IL AG and FTC via online complaints and called the IL AG in Chicago IL but only got a call back from a secretary who was worthless and just put me off claiming all had to go through the process and they could not expedite this FRAUD being carried out by almost every business in the country now! That is aiding and embedding! I want my funds back in my account NOW! This is theft and fraud and they are doing this to hundreds of thousands of people across this country who are complaining online and via the regulators, but no one is stopping it!

Tip for consumers:

Very few can be trusted anymore, all are lawless even in the government and all are working together and selfish so take care of yourselves and your own family as they do not care about the people in this country!!!

None I cancelled my order after they tried to rip me off by charging me the same price for the 30 items I originally ordered but only showing 23 items on my pickup email! And they DO charge your debit card when you order before you ever pick up now trying to hang onto my $118.24 for five businesses days so a week for NOTHiING which is theft and fraud!!! They and all businesses and banks are now doing this to allow them to in essence float hot checks and get interest free loans from the public and the government is allowing it by not stopping them and aiding and embedding by allowing all to charge our debit cards ahead of receiving our items and allowing them to put holds on our funds!! This is theft and fraud!! All need to stop shopping all businesses who do this Bug Lots, Walmart, most all gas stations, avoid Sager Farms too they sell old mealy apples then refuse to give your money back for them when you return them, my father was also cheated by Lowes!! We all need to stop shopping these businesses and go take your money out of your accounts the minute it is deposited and start shopping in person and paying cash!!!

Scam
July 14, 2023

I drove one-hour to the closets Big Lots store. I was going to buy my daughter furniture for her new house. When we got to the store, we had walked through looking at every set available in the store. She had finally decided on the set she wanted, and we went to Department desk. The employer was very nice and informed us that there was an online discount for furniture. He stated that we could order online and save 20%. He also asked if they were a Big Lots rewards member. They had stated know and he said if you go online and apply you would receive an instant 15% promo code as well. We asked if we could use that coupon with the online 20% off. He said that we could, one was a coupon, and one was a sale. So, we drove back home which like I said was a hour drive. While in the car my daughter had applied and sure enough they got a coupon for 15% off a welcome coupon. When we arrived home, we sat down and added the three items they wanted to the cart. All items stated available for pick up in the store we were just at. So, we said that's ok the drive won't be so bad since we are saving so much money on the transaction. Now with that being said I usually don't use coupons and I never order online but my daughter does! I would have rather just paid full price and then left with the items, but my daughter insisted I don't waste money that I didn't have to. She said I am willing to wait since your doing something nice for me. So go back to adding the items to the cart. They were added all said available for pick up. I then gave her my Big Lots credit card and she entered all of my info in and proceeded to check out. An error came up and stated that there was a problem with the card. I then called the Store Credit card number, and they said I had enough credit to make purchase and my balance was $0. They told me to try again, and the same thing happened. I then said I will just use my Visa card! That credit card line of credit was $*******.00 with nothing owed on it. So, I tried again, and it still said error there was an error processing your payment please reach out to financial company. So, after that I was very upset! This is the first review I have ever made publicly about any company! I work for a company, and I know that everyone has a bad experience and sometimes things happen! But after speaking to the Big lots Customer care I have decided that what they are doing is illegal and I will see to it that this stops. I know that Covid has had major effects on companies, but false advertisement and misrepresentation are illegal. When I called My Big Lots Credit Card company today they told me that my transaction was in fact pending. They then advised me to call Big Lots Customer care and ask when my order would be ready for pick up. So that's exactly what I did. I called and they told me that was my credit card had insufficient funds. I replied back that's a lie I had just got off the phone with the Big lots credit card company and they stated that the transaction was pending. The lady on the phone said well I'm sorry but that's not what it shows on our end. I then replied well then why didn't the other card go thought? She stated well there was insufficient funds on that card as well, I almost died laughing. I said well your wrong and I even went as far as offering to send in the income availability form to them directly and that they could look up the other. Her response was even better this time! She stated well actually the furniture was just not available. I stated well why did you say it was due to insufficient funds. She said Well that's what it shows first then it also shows that the furniture wasn't available. I said OK well I just left the store an
hour ago, and they stated that they had 3 sets in stock! I wasn't getting it delivered and I was picking up, so I know for a fact it was in stock because the store was closing in 5 minutes, and they had three sets in stock when I walked out. So, you're telling me they sold three sets in 5 minutes? She then started stumbling over her words and I said ok enough is enough I would like to speak to your manager! I do not appreciate lies and deceit from anyone especially a company who relies on Customer Service! I sat on hold forever after requesting to speak to a manger and she kept coming back and placing me on hold stating that someone will just have to call you back because there is just no manager available to speak to you right now. I will be contacting the BBB and the Attorney Gerneral's office. Let's just say still no call back and my daughter still has no furniture, this mother is not going to let this go! Not this time not after all of that crazinesssssss.

WORST SERVICE EVER!
December 27, 2022

I ATTEMPTED to use a gift card to purchase an item on 12/20/2022 and once I went through the entire transaction the site told me the item was no longer in stock. I then ATTEMPTED to use the card again at another store that the item was supposedly in stock at and found out that my gift card was no longer usable due to it being in limbo from the first order. When I contacted customer service, I was told it would take 5-10 days to refund my gift card, which is preposterous due to the fact that I have no product to show for my money. I told the rep, Jen, that I was trying to get this for a Christmas gift and she stated they would fast track it and I would be refunded within 24-48 hours. I even asked could the money be transferred from the original store to the store where the item was located. Jen, in turn, gave me the automated phone number to check the balance of the gift card, where you cannot speak to any live person. On 12/22/2022, I called back and spoke with another representative who tried to overtalk me to tell me their policies, EVEN WHEN I ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR. After I screamed at him that I ONLY wanted to speak with a supervisor, he finally stopped trying to talk over me. Once the supervisor, Marss, got to the phone I find out that Jen never pushed anything through on 12/20/2022 and I would have to wait another 24-48 hours. I explained to Marss that I was trying to get a Christmas gift for my son and that the store only had 3 left in stock. Marss did tell me he would call the store to place a hold on one of the items and call me the next day with an update. He also would give me a $20 coupon on my account. Now, on 12/27/2022, AFTER CHRISTMAS, no call has come through of an update and no money has been refunded to my gift card. Big Lots, this is just PISS POOR SLOPPY SERVICE!

Tip for consumers:

BEWARE, items will show in stock until you attempt to checkout, then they place hold on your money.

Not purchasing from them again
February 13, 2021

I purchased a couch and loveseat on 01/01/21. The confirmation stated I would be contacted within 7-15 days for delivery. On the 17th of January it still was not in transit and I had not gotten a call or email so I called them. The lady on the phone stated she did not have any estimate as to when I would be contacted for delivery or it's estimated shipping date. I emailed in and they stated to wait an additional FOUR weeks to be contacted and that it should be delivered February 7th. I finally got a call on February 2nd to schedule my delivery and scheduled it for February 13th. On February 8th I got another call to schedule my delivery. It's an automated system and the earliest day available was now stating February 20th. I chose the option to speak to a representative as it was already scheduled for the 13th but the system wouldn't allow me too until I chose a new delivery date. I confirmed the 20th then recalled in and got a representative. The representative wasn't sure why the system cancelled the delivery but was very helpful and got it set back to the original delivery date of the 13th. Today is now the 13th and the delivery was supposed to be between 2:30 and 4:30. The delivery agency partnered with Big Lots called me and let me know the truck broke down and if they can't get it fixed by 5, the delivery will need to be rescheduled. We gave our old couch away yesterday thinking this would be arriving today. The truck braking down is of course not Big Lots fault but their not knowing when suppliers or warehouses are anticipating to ship items is. They have a lack of organization and need to have better communication with their warehouses. This has been a terrible experience.

Blatant racism
February 3, 2021

On a previous date about a year ago I posted a complaint about the stores employees electing to take it upon them selves to harass their African American employees as well as their African American customers who shop in their store. My young daughter who had been employed there for a short time experience their white female members electing to harass her for no other reasons but the color of her skin. I've lived in Bradenton for more than 3 years and quickly discovered that the community of Bradenton has about 60% white and 40% other however, Biglots tend to reject non white members in their community and that's not excluding Biglots by not hiring African Americans, harassing and eventually swiftly firing their African Americans employees they have had in the past. I my self as an African American woman and a Teacher of social etiquette who have witness this type of racism at the stores location in Bradenton Florida Biglots on several different occasions with their employees not excluding a significant event occurring on today 02/03/2021 at 1:00 pm. The last bad review that was posted by me was for reasons that several white female employees at this location elected to take it upon them selves to promptly follow me around the store while one at a time poking fun at my grandson who was in the basket that I was pushing around. One such remark was in regards to my grandson and how they wanted him to so that he could serve them as their slave. Once these remarks were made other white female employees elected to stand on the next ils laughing at the disrespectful remark that was made to me about my African American grandson. One of these employee was found employed at a nearby Goodwill where I visited. Once she recognized my face she did follow me around at this store again in a quiet rage as her face appeared dissatisfied with my presents there. It was because of her fast snappy movements, slick way in which she spoke while looking into my face I noticed her standing near by. Few years later I walk into Biglots this same location in Bradenton Florida ******* Cortez Rode location and there she was again sitting outside of the location with a Biglots uniform on. Soon she began to follows me with her eyes into the store and there she was again walking back and forth past me with her hands behind her back staring in my direction from across the store then again inches from me on the same isle. All the other employees seam to be busy stacking product but this woman. I arrived and approached the check out lady at the counter when she came out of nowhere to swiftly take over the register and take my order. I look up and realized it was her again. I decided to move over to the only other check out person besides her and waited for her to complete her previous order when this lady came over to me again but this time she wanted to take my order as she ask " are you ready to check out?" I politely replied " No mam, I'm not ready to check out" in the hopes that she would go away. Although their were other customers behind me she continued to linger around so much so that I decided to take a closer look at her badge to get her name that read ( Brenda). She was a tall slinger white woman with long gray hair insisting on metaling in so sort of racist obsession however, calmed down because she had been aware of the nearby surveillance camera now capturing her images.
