December 2, 2010

I was given a deal to try out the site from MyPoints ( a different deal company). I bought a bid package of only 50 bids for 24.95 plus tax. On their site they have a guarantee that you will win with your original bids or they will give you the bids back. I used all my bids trying to win three different items and I lost on each of them. Oddly enough in many cases a lot of people kept out bidding me. Then after I ran out of bids they all just gave up except for one person who won almost right after I stopped. Seemed a little fishy. The bids didn't show up back in my account so I used the live chat and spoke with someone who gave me the bids back even though supposedly I wasn't supposed to for a 50 bid purchase. I couldn't find that restriction anywhere in the contract so I think that is why they gave them back. Then they were running a 1 year anniversary special that you would get back all the bids you use for one day. I watched the site a lot and they have this lightning round thing where everyone just bids as many times they can in 3 seconds. Whoever bids the most wins the auction. The problem was there was a user "Charity4kids" who somehow bid 110 or 120 times in 3 seconds. That is impossible. The most I have ever seen before or since then is 30. So the site is definitely allowing others to use computers or using them themselves. Anyway I played all 50 of my bids on one item and I ran out. The same thing happened. Previous to me running out there were 2 or 3 other people bidding. Then I ran out and everyone else stopped except one person who won the very next bid. I got my bids back and started watching again. I saw tonight, just minutes ago, that the 50 cards were all going for under a dollar there was three or four items running out of time about the same time which should lessen the amount of bidders on each. Well I began bidding on a Barnes & Noble card and for the last 20 bids or so it was just me and another bidder. We each were just going back and forth. Then I ran out of bids. Someone else bid and the other bidder stopped bidding. So again the very first bid that was made after I quit was the winner and it was for almost 3 or 4 times the other products were going for. At the same time a 100 target card was sold for under a 1 and other 50 gift cards also went for under a $1. Lastly, now that I think about it, for any of these penny auction sites to function someone has to lose. Some people may win but someone has to lose and for the site to stay open it isn't going to be the site who loses. I would say to anyone who thinks this might be a good idea to not do it. The chances you will win are slim, especially if you are new and not willing to spend lots of wasted bids just to show others you won't give up so you can win more in the future.

June 23, 2010

I was extremely skeptical about this site and all penny auction sites, especially after googling bidsauce and reading all the warnings. I had an offer for discount bids, though, so I gave it a shot. Totally against my better judgement, I bought a $15 "box" of bids (35 bids, I think) I promptly won an auction for a $50 MACY's giftcard for 32 cents! This didn't convince me though, because you have to pay $6.89 to ship the giftcard and they make all kinds of disclaimers about how they aren't responsible if you don't receive your item. Bidding (not to mention winning) can be kind of addicting, though, plus I so wanted it to be legitimate, and I had more bids, so next I actually bid and won a box of 50 more bids (won for 16 cents). When I won two more auctions (four total in well under an hour), I was sure it was a scam. It just seemed too easy. These were two more $50 giftcards, SEARS (won for $1.12) and SpaFinder (won for 14 cents) Fun, but it had to be a scam. It just seemed too easy to win, plus all of the warnings on other sites said they use all kinds of trickery to make you think it's real. They wanted $6.89 shipping for each of the three giftcards. Still on a high from winning, and so wanting it to be for real, I reasoned with myself that $22.41 (winning bids plus shipping) wasn't too much to gamble with if it did prove to be a scam, and well worth it for $150 in giftcards if it worked. I did feel pretty foolish afterwards, though, and was pretty much convinced I'd fallen for a scam.

I waited and waited. I emailed the company four weeks later and received no response. I chalked it up to a loss and promised myself I'd remember this when something looks too good to be true.

A week later, I received a shipping notification in my email inbox. A week after that, I received the three giftcards. I had already given up hope, so I actually still thought it must somehow be a scam. I immediately went online to verify the giftcards. I can't tell you how shocked I was to discover that they were all valid and worth $50 each!

For $37.41 total, I have $150 in giftcards! I drove my self a little nuts, feeling so silly for falling for something everyone said, and I believed, to be a scam. I will definitely use bidsauce again, though I have not allowed myself to buy more bids just yet (it's easy for me to get carried away). The bid boxes are pricey, and it can take a lot of bids to win anything, plus once you've bid on something, the bids are gone, even if you don't win the auction.

Based on my experience, as long as you are patient about receiving your auction items, I recommend giving it a shot, and now believe that BidSauce is most definitely not a scam.
