“Best Maint man ever!”

NANCY M.
7/19/23

We stayed at the Best Western in Cambridge, OH on June 22 2023. The room was nice as we expected. The real pleasure came the next morning when we discovered we had left the truck lights on and the battery was completely dead. The maintenance man really went above and beyond trying to get the truck started so we could get home. He searched everywhere for a jumper box and ended up using his personal vehicle to jump our truck. I regret not getting his name but he very kind and helpful.

“Not an excuse”

LeRoy M.

We stayed 2 nights at best western finger lakes/cortland new york, hotel is only 5 years old but the upkeep is poor, stained carpeting, no ice machines in service during our stay, and no one has taken care of the landscaping since the hotel was built. Breakfast was muffins in baggies, when we spoke to management about this, they claimed they could not hire any help, nobody wanted the job. Then they told us we could have booked the room for less if we booked directly through the hotel instead of using booking.com. There is no excuse for that hotel to be in that condition and I will never use booking.com again. Best Western should keep a better eye on their locations, it would help to avoid reviews like ours.

In July of 2022 my wife and i and my 100-year old mother took a two week trip to Arkansas. Because of Covid some motels were not cleaning the rooms every day unless you specifically asked. Since we were traveling with my 100-year old mother I specifically asked when we checked in at the Best Western at 101 East Van Buren in Eureka Springs to have our 2 rooms cleaned because we were staying 2 days. The next day when we came back to the rooms after a day of site seeing and shopping our rooms were not cleaned. When I called the front desk they told me that the cleaning people had left and our rooms would not be cleaned. Obviously, I was an unhappy camper, but I thought that everyone makes an error occasionally.

On July 14th & 15th we stayed at the Best Western Winners Circle at 2520 Central Avenue in Hot Springs, AK. Again when we checked in, I specifically asked that our rooms be cleaned because we were staying 2 nights. The next day the same thing happened. Our rooms were not cleaned. I don't know in the future, if we will ever be staying at another Best Western, I doubt it. I recommend that you stay at other motels that are more reliable. We had no problems at the other motels we stayed at during our trip.

Tip for consumers:
Ask if they give a refund if they don't clean the rooms.

Best Western advertises a military discount, but in reality, they do not offer such a discount. I am a veteran and I was denied a military discount at the Best Western in Bishop, California.

Products used:
None, I stayed at a motel that actually did offer a military discount.

When we booked this room for two of my adopted Korean daughters and their visiting Mom and myself, I was acting on a guarded 'recommendation' by neighbors. They told me that we had a 50/50 chance of getting treated well! I said that we were touring the southwest so would only be at this BW "Plus" for a single night - how bad could it be?!? Well folks - we found out!
As we said when we made our reservation, we arrived fairly late. We first went to the Bryce Canyon park itself and saw the sunset over the canyon and then returned to the hotel to get our room. The girl at the front desk was reading a book as there was no one else in sight. Great. I told her that I had a reservation (BTW with the nicest person I had ever spoken to = EVAN). I asked her for a quiet room if possible as I had driven and hiked and driven all day - We were all 'pooped'. We carried all of our 'stuff' to our room in an out-building and then headed back to the main lodge for dinner. We walked into the lodge and the desk lady pointed to their restaurant where we found the host reading a book - do you see a pattern here. There was not another single person in the (beautiful) restaurant. We asked for a menu and saw this was NOT the place for burgers and such. The host said that next door was a nice cafeteria/fast food kind of place with great burgers. THEY ARE SUPER = nice choices and very reasonable (under $10) prices. The counter girl couldn't have been nicer. Our food was AWESOME and we got more fries included with our burgers that I have EVER gotten and they were great. Okay folks - the good review ends here...
We decided to 'star-gaze' and returned to the park for a couple (cold) hours and it was worth it and then back to our room. We all decided to just go to sleep that is until the party from hell started in the room above us!
After half an hour I called the front desk asking for her to PLEASE ask those above us for a little consideration - her response; do YOU want to change rooms? NO, it is 11 p.m. and we are all in PJs and unpacked. Result = party continued! Earplugs all around and we got some sleep... until about 6 a.m. when every kid in Utah decided to run up and down the stairway above and adjacent to our room. I got up and asked the kids to politely STOP!
Sure, that worked, NOT. I went into the bathroom for a shower and the shower knob/handle fell off in my hand - so I had to use a finger nail clipper to partially screw it back on. When I looked around there was paint peeling and very rusty door hinges. I finished my shower and then noticed a partially eaten candy bar on the floor behind the door that was NOT OURS. A partially eaten sandwich was also found on the bedroom floor!
I asked the kids and their Mom to pack up and I headed to the main lodge to ask for a manager. I went in to the empty registration area and asked the very sweet girl behind the desk (Amina) to call a manager. She asked if she could help me, and I began explaining what a lousy room we were stuck in and the food left in corners and she apologized and said their manager had a very strict order "not to be bothered!" I asked if there was anyone that I could talk to and she asked me to take a seat - sure. About 15 minutes later a large guy in a suit came down the hallway aiming right at me. The first thing he said was "What is your problem?" Not hello or hi, how can I help you but "What is your problem!" I began to tell him about our room issues but he cut me off saying "You have 2 minutes and you are NOT getting your room refunded, so forget that" I said the only thing I wanted to know was why we were put in the lousy room we got! He said that he was VERY busy and didn't have time for me so I should take it up with customer service or anyone besides him and began to walk away!
I asked how long he had been the manager here and he loudly said I have been here since 2007, AND THIS IS MY HOTEL! The most arrogant management-type I have ever encountered!
We had our 'free' breakfast' of scrambled eggs and a slice each of toast and bacon served by the nicest waiter! I asked how he liked working at Ruby Inn and he said that the staff were great - like a family and when I asked about the manager he just rolled his eyes!
I know this is long but I wanted to get my $140 of complaints onto paper!

BUGS in Shower and sink area. No Housekeeping to clean room, empty trash can and renew towels ( maybe thats why they have BUGS0. The smoke alarm starts chirping at 2:30 AM, I remove battery NO HELP, its hard wired and Im hesitant to pull the wires. Call the front desk and they come and disconnect. I explain to the manager DJ my totsl dissatisfaction and my lack of sleep. DJ says she'll take 7% off. REALLY 7% is an insult, 7% is the tax. I explain if she can not do better than 7% I will check out immediately. 7% I check out. When I finally track down the owner (Shantel) after no return calls. He explaines to me he is NOT responsible for the life of a battery and he is not going to offer any compensation. How bout the satisfaction of his customers. How bout providing a comfortable place for his customers to sleep. HOW BOUT CHANGING THE BATTERYS EACH AND EVERY YEAR JUST LIKR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS. Shantel is more concerned about stuffing as much CASH in his pockets then maintaining or preventative Maintenace as simple as changing a battery every year. The ONLY way some thing is fixed there is if it breaks and it has to be repaired or replaced. STAY A FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE

I made my reservation on Bestwestern.com in May. I did a marathon drive from south eastern Colorado to Junction, Texas. I had made specific reservation for a ground floor because I travel with an equipment case that weighs about 300 pounds.
When I arrive at the hotel, around 7pm, August 1. I was told that do not honor reservations that are not called in. There were no ground floor rooms. The only room was top floor and there was no elevator... I left.
I contacted Best Western who said I should have checked in at 3pm to get the room I wanted!
I was a contractor for Best Western from 2001 to 2007. I traveled for them across the US, Canada and the Caribbean. I have visited in the neighborhood of 1500 Best Western Hotels. Many were low quality, some were extremely nice. Those in Canada were exceptional. My complaint is not about the quality of the hotel, but the dumb country bumpkins that run the front desk.
I have a Gold Member Card from Best Western and enough points to... well, I'm not going back, so I suppose they are worthless now.
The Best Western in Junction, Tx ruined this company for me.

Emailed cs regarding recent visit as below, thought I made my voice out, done deal. But the cs asked me to call the office to "allow our office the opportunity to discuss your
> concerns further and hopefully reach a satisfactory solution". Maybe I understood it in the wrong way or just call me implacable, I just think I've done enough by emailing to report the issues. Even so, if some one can email me to say please call, why not just say what ever else the cs department would like to say... I only have time to do anything myself after both kids go to bed at night... at least call me, i did leave my phone number in the original email.
