SAVE YOUR SANITY
January 4, 2024

Not sure where to begin, but if it were possible to simply have the last 4 months of my sanity back rather than writing this review than I would be much happier. Disclaimer: This couch had no reviews under it prior to my purchase so I hadn't a clue. To start, this couch took a living eternity to ship (nearly 4 months). I'm still not convinced it would have arrived if I had not called to inquire about it. This couch (after a decade) shipped in 4 pieces, which all showed as scanned through UPS, yet only 3 pieces ever displayed tracking updates. In great hopes that the 4th piece would eventually show tracking updates, we proceeded to put the monstrosity together. As you know from previous reviews, this was a grueling process and just about the same time wasted as the century it took to arrive. Also, it was falsely advertised in material, says it's "Linen" but actually terry cloth. Altogether ugly, altogether linty, altogether cheap and gross to me. We decided to then reach out to UPS who told us they never received the package and it was never scanned. After a couple phone calls to numerous BBB reps we were able to confirm that piece number 4 was indeed going to be a no show. We decided to give BBB the opportunity to make things right and try to find us a reasonable solution. They claimed they'd come to said solution in a matter of 3-5 days. This wasn't the case so we proceeded to reach out to BBB yet again, this time to submit a missing piece claim. We were told we'd receive a follow up on this claim within 48 hours which, no shocker, also never happened. After calling BBB AGAIN we learned this claim was never actually submitted by the previous rep. After wasting about another two weeks of my life (on top of the millennium it took for the couch to arrive) I decided enough was enough. The only reasonable way out of this situation was to issue a return and run as far away from this company as I could possibly get. One valuable thing I learned is KEEP YOUR BOXES folks. Turns out it is nearly impossible to find couch sized boxes. That was, yep you guessed it, another week and half of waiting for boxes to be delivered. These boxes came in 2 pieces and the top pieces were never delivered. At this point I just chalked it up to bad luck and made the best of our DIY skills. After FINALLY getting this pain shipped out of my life, we made sure to call BBB to remind them that only 3 pieces would be sent back, due to the 4th never making it to us. They attached this to the case and also sent us an email in writing that this would be understood. Shout out to Charles, the only BBB rep to put info in writing for us. After confirmation that this horrible couch was delivered back to the warehouse, Charles gave us a specific time frame in which to expect the refund to process. Of course, this never happened and we proceeded to call BBB again for what would be the last time I ever would in my lifetime. The BBB rep (not Charles) claimed that they were STILL WAITING ON PIECE 4. We had to tell them to check the case for our note stating that piece four never existed and was not part of the refund. They were then FINALLLLLLLLLYYYYYYY able to issue the refund. To conclude, this was a a FIVE month long process starting in September and just now ended in January. Do yourself the biggest favor you could possibly do and click off this website immediately. Thank you

Poor customer service
August 22, 2023

Poor experience with Bed Bath & Beyond customer service. I originally placed my first order for two Design Toscano King Tut Sarcophagus Wall Sculptures with a 25% discount offer. I came back to the store site the next day and made a purchase at approximately 8:50PM and ordered an additional Design Toscano King Tut Sarcophagus Wall Sculpture. At my checkout the 25% discount code was still activated during my second store visit. However, I did not receive any type of discount during checkout. I immediately contacted customer service through chat and was told that I was only entitled to a 15% discount. I requested to cancel the order and the representative ended my chat session. The next morning at approximately 9:02am, I called customer service and requested my order be cancelled and was informed by the representative that the order would be canceled. With this information, I placed a new order for two additional Design Toscano King Tut Sarcophagus Wall Sculptures with the advertised 15% discount amount. Several hours later, I received an email stating that my previous order omitting the discount could not be canceled because the order status changed to "Submitted to warehouse for processing." I called customer service to explain the situation and the status of my new order with the discount changed to "Submitted to warehouse for processing" during the call after the agent pulled up my account and told me my previous order couldn't be canceled. I informed the representative of my intentions to refuse delivery for the items and my tracking numbers were withheld from my order page. I called and requested the tracking information and was told the item hadn't shipped. Meanwhile, I received a delivery notification from the carrier stating that the item was scheduled for delivery the next day.
Altogether I will have purchased five wall sculptures when I clearly only want four. This distasteful tactic is a ploy to force customers into keeping items they don't want or go through the annoying hassle of paying extra money for the return and have your money tied up for days waiting on the refund. Withholding the tracking numbers and tracking information is a clear attempt in preventing me from intercepting the package and refusing delivery. These are clearly bad business practices that need to be addressed.

Tip for consumers:

If you have a shipping issue and need to do a refuse delivery, activate the "hold package" function to ensure the package is not delivered to your location before you have the opportunity to intercept and refuse delivery for the package.

Products used:

I only accepted two of the five items shipped due to the failure of the company to honor their advertising discount.

Wedding Registry Scam -- Your Gift Never Arrived, But Bed Bath and Beyond Kept the Money
December 18, 2022

Just a few months pre-COVID, before massive supply chain issues, I purchased a gift through the registry for my cousin's wedding. A couple of weeks ago I was looking for her contact info by searching old emails and I found a shipping email from BB&B. On a whim, I clicked the tracking. I was shocked to find: Carrier Awaiting Shipment. I thought this must be a glitch. There was also a "delivered" email, but I had a bad feeling, so I clicked the customer service chat. I was told that the item had been out of stock and never arrived! So my cousin never got the gift and there were no emails or anything to let me know. I was mortified. They also told me I was never charged because the order didn't go through. That seemed confusing. I was never informed that the payment didn't go through AND I got the shipped and delivered emails. I checked the credit card I would likely have used and didn't see anything on the card, but I chatted again to make sure. I was also requesting that they reach out to my cousin because I felt awful and I wanted her to know that there really was a present, but they wouldn't do that. Just: "Sorry for the inconvenience." The second chat I was again told my "credit card" wasn't charged. I still felt there was something else they should or could be doing, and reached out through Facebook messenger. This time they got back to me after doing "research" and said that they couldn't get authorization from my credit card so it was never charged. Nothing about the item being out of stock. A different story and one that seemed to put the blame on me for not checking charges on my credit card. No explanation for the two emails -- "shipped" and "delivered." They offered me a $65 credit which I thought was weird, but I said sure. I was using the credit to get toys for my cousin's now 1 year old son. I looked at my account and was able to find the receipt for the wedding purchase. I hadn't used a credit card. I used PayPal. It was on the receipt. I went through old PayPal records and found that the money had in fact been taken out of my account. So they had taken my money, and sent me a shipped email and a delivery email and the items had never been shipped or delivered. I wrote them back. I haven't heard anything. Here's the thing, I don't believe that this is just me. I think this is a scam they have been running for years. Think about it: How many times when you buy a gift through a registry and it is being delivered to the recipient's home, do you actually check that it got there? Maybe you get a thank you from the recipient, but if you don't do you pursue it? Do you ask: Did you get my gift? I think Bed Bath and Beyond doesn't deliver a certain of the gifts. They wait for people to check. A certain percentage never checks. They keep the money. It's the perfect crime. Steal a million from one person and you'll get caught, steal an average of $150 from 10,000 people who won't check, and that's enough to float a dying retail legacy retailer for another year. Do not register with them. Do not buy from their registry. Find the same product elsewhere and let the bride/mom/etc know why.

Tip for consumers:

Do not use. They are scammers.

None. The item was never delivered.

Nonexistent customer service
August 25, 2022

On Tuesday, August 16, I ordered two CO2 canisters from Bed Bath and Beyond for same day delivery. The delivery driver left the package at the wrong house. The photo the driver took was not of our house, and a cursory glance up and down our street revealed that he did not even manage to find our street, as there were no packages on any of the other porches nearby.

I immediately contacted Bed Bath & Beyond via live chat and explained the problem to a representative, who assured me that a replacement would be sent and that I would receive an email within 24 hours confirming this. Neither of those things has happened, and over a week has now passed.

A few days later, I reached out again via live chat. I received a text message saying that a representative would be with me in approximately 20 minutes. Nearly an hour later, what appeared to be a live person did finally sign into the text thread, but this person was even less helpful than the first representative. I was asked if I wanted a replacement or a refund. I said that I would prefer to receive the merchandise, if that wasn't an insurmountable problem. Then the representative told me that all he (or she – since they don't identify themselves by name, it's impossible to tell) could tell me was that a replacement had been ordered. I was offered the option of calling a phone representative myself for more information, or having someone in Customer Support do it for me. I said I would prefer that it be handled for me, foolishly thinking that one of their representatives would be better able to communicate the problem internally.

Then I was given a phone number to call. I replied that my understanding was that this was to be handled for me, and I was told that this would be impossible, despite having just been told otherwise. At this point, I had wasted an hour on this nonsense, with no one doing anything to help me. By now, I was livid and asked if I could just cancel the order and get a refund. Despite having been offered that option earlier in the conversation, I was now told that a refund would be impossible, as their system showed the merchandise as already having been delivered! Well, it may have been, but not to my house!

Understandably, I was beginning to wonder why I had bothered contacting Customer Support at all. It's pretty easy to see why their stock has been plummeting. I'm not quite sure what their customer service representatives are being paid to do, but they definitely are NOT being paid to provide customer service. Avoid this company like the plague!

Update: Since customer support is nonexistent with Bed Bath and Beyond, I decided to follow up with a letter of complaint to their corporate headquarters, but so far I've received no response. After waiting a few more days and still not receiving my merchandise or any further communication about it, I decided to call their 800 number. I waited on hold for about 30 minutes, and then a recording came on asking me to complete a short survey rating the assistance I had just received. The only problem was, I HADN'T RECEIVED ANY ASSISTANCE YET! I'd simply been left on hold. I waited for someone to come on the line until I was pretty sure I'd been disconnected. I called back again, and this time I waited about 15 minutes and then a customer support person finally took the call.

She pulled up the order and told me that a replacement had been ordered, but she didn't see any information other than that, so she couldn't give me any kind of estimated arrival date. So I reiterate what I said in my initial review - Avoid Bed Bath and Beyond at all costs, because I guarantee they don't care about you. Once they have your money, they apparently think they're done. They may or may not bother to deliver the merchandise, and if they don't, you are SOL because they simply don't care.

My credit card has already been charged for this merchandise, but given what I've seen of their practices, I fully expect to be charged a second time for the replacement, whether the merchandise actually shows up or not. I am anticipating a lot more time wasted on phone calls, at which point I'll just file a charge dispute with my credit card company. Fun times.

OMG, Do NOT buy from them!
March 19, 2021

I ordered a hot water urn on March 14,2021 and was promised delivery on March 16,2021. As of 10:30 p.m. March 18 my item did not arrive. The tracking information kept pushing the delivery date off from the 16th to the 17th to the 18th and then to the 19th.

I called and spoke with Rowlen in Customer Service. After a lot of go-around, he finally agreed to send me a replacement, but wouldn't tell me when I could expect it. I then received an email that it would not arrive until somewhere between the 23rd and the 26th. That was unacceptable as that would have required me to wait at least one week for the item I ordered.

I called Customer Service again, and reached Angel. I asked that delivery of my replacement order be expedited. I was told it could not be expedited. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told that it wasn't possible to transfer the call to a supervisor. I told her I know she has a supervisor and that I know expedited shipping is possible and that she clearly wasn't being truthful.

I was put on hold for several minutes. Angel came back and offered me "expedited shipping" within 2-3 days. I pointed out that since I had already been promised delivery of the original order within 2 days, that that was not expedited shipping. I was then cut off.

I called back and spoke with Nolan who claimed I was getting expedited shipping with a delivery date of March 23-26. That clearly is NOT expedited shipping. I asked him where it was shipping from and he advised me it was shipping from Carteret NJ. I live in East Windsor, NJ. There is no reason shipping should take 5 days from Carteret to East WIndsor. Furthermore, there is no universe in which 5 days to ship an item from Carteret NJ to East Windsor NJ is expedited shipping.

I again asked to speak with a supervisor, was placed on hold and was then connected with Bob Lowe. He again said he could offer "expedited shipping" whereby I would receive the item within 2-3 business days. I asked how that qualified as expedited shipping and was told "That's our terminology". I asked to escalate the call further. While Mr. Lowe admitted the call should be expedited he said there was no one else to talk to. I told him I didn't believe that. I asked for the name of his supervisor and he would not give it to me.

I have ordered from Amazon, Walmart, and Target and gotten my orders within 2 days or less. I know that it is possible to actually expedite shipping. If this experience is at all indicative of how your company treats its customers I cannot imagine how it stays in business. I have no trouble wondering how it could have filed for bankruptcy.

This is my first and only experience ordering anything from your company. I will never do so again.

Today, March 19, I recevied an email that my item was delivered. I went to my door. It wasn't there. I had asked for a refund and while I spent over $23.00 they only issued a refund of $23.00 and are insisting the item was delivered. This is fraud and it's also theft by deception, which is a crime in NJ.

If you choose to buy from them, you're asking for trouble!
