DO NOT GET AVG
December 9, 2019

So about maybe 10 years ago, i used to use avg, when it was simply a free anti-virus program. Never had any issues with it. Recently I was having some issues with windows being a bit sluggish, so I looked up avg and well now they just have a free trial and then you need to pay. Ok, i got the free trial.

Now one thing to note is my windows is on a SSD, the rest of my things are on another hard drive that was allocated into 4 parts. Avg was installed on one of these partitions. The HD as a whole was 1TB.

So i installed avg, ran it and after rebooting suddenly I'm having more issues. 3 of the 4 partitions I had were gone. I had to roll back to before I installed avg to get them back, but it didn't end there. I got rid of avg and used something else to check for malware and all that. Everything seemed ok.

This all happened about 2 months ago and ever since I've been having more issues with my HD and last night, those 3 partitions disappeared again after a reboot. I couldnt roll back, but I had it happen 1 other time last week too and rebooting fixed it. This time I rebooted 4 times and they would not come back.

So I just reset my whole pc since windows was still sluggish anyway and I completely reformatted my HD. Those 3 partitions never came back and when I looked in disk management, i was told i had some unallocated space and when I tried to allocate it, i got an error saying it doesnt exist.

So yes, I lost 500GB worth of space on my HD cause of avg. I'm convinced there was a virus they planted that another program didnt see. These guys are "anti-virus" so I'm sure they know how to put a virus on a pc without it being detected by other programs.

Do NOT trust avg. I'm lucky that I saw things were going wrong and I got an external HD to back up some of my important things. How it didnt attack my entire HD, I dont know, but hopefully that virus isnt still lingering on the remaining space I have. I did a 100% clean and reformat so, I doubt it.

My HD was 100% fine until this whole avg thing. It's garbage and I don't even want to give it 1 star. It's really 0 stars for me. It's nothing but trouble.
