I love books and love to read, but I don't have the time with a growing family and challenging career to keep up with everything I want to read. Audible is the one thing that keeps me connected to my favorite authors, new books on topics I enjoy, and now podcasts as well. For my commute, business trips, picking up my kids from school (which now takes an hour due to distancing precautions), I'm able to stay entertained and informed thanks to Audible.
I canceled my subscription in March 2019. I then received an email telling me that it has been canceled and I've received a refund.
They are still taking my money from my bank account. It's such a hassle trying to contact Amazon. In fact it's a bloody nightmare!
They sign you up, run it through a credit card when you sign up with Amazon prime. They never email you are being billed and it's a scheme. Took me awhile to catch in because fees hidden in my credit card. This company is what's wrong with the world today. Greed and deception
As soon as I cancelled by AUS subscription they started charging me even more for a US subscription that I never signed up for. Have contacted them and they've cancelled it saying they dont know how it would have happened... will see if I get a refund. It's a scam and not worth the hassle.
My experience with Audible was terrible. Charged my account repeatedly, told me different stories every time I called, said that the card had been declined, and refused to refund. What's worse, I wasn't even given the credits I was charged for! Would not recommend!
I always hear their commercials on NPR, which seems reliable to me! So decided to give them a try. Signed up for the free month, which allows 1 credit. I chose a "book" but it was 15 minutes long. Called customer service, which is a call center in India, they transfer me to another dept. who promptly tells me I qualify for all kinds of free stuff and all they need is a credit card for shipping. I said I wouldn't be willing to do that, and mid-sentence they disconnected the call.
I called back to get my full credit to try another book and to report what sounded like a serious scam, qualified by them hanging up on me when I refused to give a credit card to them. They did restore my credit but did not acknowledge the prior call.
I am actually really shocked that this is the experience I had with Audible, not at all what I expected... very low end.
Literally the worst online service experience I've ever had. I set up a trial Audible account, but when I tried to cancel it via their website it didn't work. So I emailed them and was told it was cancelled. It wasn't. They then proceeded to bill me for several months. Eventually their US team managed to cancel my account (for some reason my account details were stored with Audible US, despite me setting up the account in the UK). But the refund they sent didn't include the transaction fees I've been charged by my bank and it didn't factor in exchange rates. So I'm still out of pocket, despite the refund.
I was paying monthly and in advance for this service. I lost £65 of my money. Apparently I didn't spend it in time. I cancelled the account but it's my money not theirs. I would strongly advise people to stay away from it. It's theft as far as I'm concerned.
I thought I was doing great with a yearly payment of $229 for some 30 book credits. But now it turns out that I lose all those credits if I cancel my membership and I can't listen to all those books in a year. Argh! I feel I have paid for those credits--that's what the $229 was all about. And they don't refund my money either! Only reason they are still in biz must be all the stupid people like me who didn't realize what they are up to.
My gold membership lapsed because of a compromised credit card that I failed to update. Found out that all my credits that I had paid for and had not used were deleted (stolen) and would not be available to me unless I purchased another month to renew my membership. Very poor treatment for someone who had been a member for over 10 years
I hate audible. You think u pay 14.95 but no u pay 16 bucks. They took money from me when im not evening listening to their books. They're books are so expensive. Like it should be cheap. They inspect u to pay $16 dollars for one book. I hate audible and im not gonna recommend it to anybody but the trash
Used the site for a long time. Suddenly I was not able to use two credits. Called and emailed customer service a total of six times. I was encouraged to use my credit card to purchase the books I wanted instead of using credits. Customer Service always assured me they would fix the credit problem, but never did. I'm disgusted! Quit the service.
Paid for membership monthly for years. Continually had issues with downloading. Unexpectedly hacked and needed to update my info to continue membership. Passed around and 4months later I finally just cancelled. All the titles I paid for are now unavailable. I paid for them! Nobody has been willing to assist me. Didn't want to cancel just update my info. Was repeatedly told by answering service in other countries that it was handled and also I needed to speak with Amazon. Received contact from Amazon asking for my social security number. Never provided this in the first place and not about to. Total scam. So now I'm out $100's for my membership and cut off from titles I PAID FOR! Total sham. Screw Audible and screw Amazon. What a $#*! show
To start, I don't remember signing up for an Audible membership. I recently discovered that I have been charged for the past five months.
I have already canceled my account, but Audible is still charging me.
It's really disappointing. I have lost trust in Audible and will be cautious about any future dealings with them. I would rather avoid any further involvement with Audible.
Be careful when dealing g with audible.
Audible billed me for 3 years on a general household account, attached to Amazon that I didn't sign-up for. They've agreed to credit me back, but 3 months, 4 calls, 5 hrs of BS still has no money credited back to me. I had to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commision
After downloading my free books, I decided to cancel a month after my free trial window. I did so on the app. Or so i thought! Months later, i discover they are still billing my card. Shame on me for not noticing. I went back to the app to see what was going on, but my app had no personal info on me.? I called the number and reached a really proficient customer service rep, but try as she could... she could not find any record of me. Even though they had racked up $130 on my credit card! And, the free trials I downloaded seem to be MIA. Man - please beware! Don't do it!
I can't rate the company past signing up. I go to create my account and it says I already have one. Which was impossible because the email is brand new. However, just to be sure. I created another new email. The same thing occured. It bypasses the free trial and insists I pay for a membership. I tried to contact customer service but that just lef me in a loop back to the help forum.
They basically trick you into a membership by offering a discount if you pay for a subscription. I racked up a lot of unused audiobook credits, but if I cancel the subscription I lose them all. So now I have to download 4 random audiobooks before cancelling, or lose the $60 I spent with them.
I'm glad Dollar Shave Club can't make me send back my extra cartridges if I want to cancel the subscription. What nonsense.
Beware: when you quit your monthly member if you don't use your credit that you paid for the take it away. You lose it. Amazon is basically stealing your money. Also I bought a book. When I finally went to listen to it a few months later they locked it. I have to to buy it. They are a company of thieves. It is call stealing, yet they get away with it.
The only reason I didn't take a star off for the mistake was because its so hard to tell how this kind of crap happens. There's a checkbox that's not unchecked, or a customer service or sales person adds in some free trial and nobody's paying attention, next thing you know you have a years worth of fees for a service you're not even using. This happens all the time, and is why I pick through my bank and card statements with a fine toothed comb. Even then, this charge slipped through for months on end.
Audible refunded all of the months of fees in the end.
This is why I keep sticking with Amazon (their parent company). They have the best customer service. I even cut cable and only ever bother with Netflix and Amazon videos.
Answer: I've had the same problem, they charge me from the US AND Australia so I can't even cancel cos no access to these sites. If you manage to contact them, they should refund you
Answer: Not not a clue but they refunded me all the money back they took out my back so alls good

Hi Susan,
Please keep in mind that you can always downgrade your membership to a lesser annual or monthly plan, or even to our Inactive Light plan that doesn't issue any credits but gives you extra time to use the ones you may have backed up. If you are interested in hearing more about your options, email us at social-support@audible.com^DB
