“A Great Help”

Cheryl B.
2/3/24

When you first begin looking at solutions for helping an aging relative find care or a good retirement community, it is overwhelming. A Place for Mom gives you a good list of choices along with additional reviews and insights about each option. I received followup messages on a regular basis but not too often which was good. This process is challenging and at times difficult. A Place for Mom helped in narrowing down the selections.

“They sell your contact info”

I am now getting over 25 spam calls a day because they clearly sold my contact information. I will probably have to change my cell number. Unacceptable!

We were given appropriate contacts which were helpful in locating an assisted living facility. Our senior living adviser was efficient and helpful. Note:This statement is on all emails from our senior living advisor: "Our service is at no cost to your family as we are paid by our participating communities and providers". Our $3,500 deposit paid the invoice for A Place for Mom. After less than 3 months the assisted living facility told us we required more care than they could provide. We cannot get the deposit back. So essentially we paid the fee, not the provider.

Reason I chose this business:

From ads I had seen, I thought they would be able to help us locate an assisted living facility.

I did an interview of what my parents needed. They create a profile which is useful and shared with facilities so that you don't have to retell the story. You then schedule a visit with the facilities. That's where "A Place for Mom" stops.

What I had to learn on my own was extensive: Definitions of Independent Living, Assisted Living, Pallative Care, Long Term Care insurance, Veterans Aid & Attendance. Ask about transportation, in-facility care, meals (or meal allowances) vs. costs, non-refundable "community charge", rent increases, notification of leaving, waiting lists, pets, smoking, parking, second resident fees, grills on balconies, cable/internet, community vs. list of activities (do the seniors interact?), gardening, field trips, shopping, in-facility doctors/nurses/beauty parlor/scheduled care.

Reason I chose this business:

My company recommended them as an employee resource.

There was a concentrated effort from Deserie until I indicated we placed my husband in a facility she sponsored. End of year Quotas. I haven't heard from her since. I guess it's all about the numbers. I expected a follow up. Never got one.Wont recommend.

Reason I chose this business:

Thought they cared.

I was referred to a Place for Mom from a friend, and I started out really liking the rep I was working with. I felt she was helpful in sending me places based on the specifications I gave her. But I was clear from the start that this could be a long process and we didn't have an exact timeline to move on anything. There were a few times she sent more places to me outside of the area I said we were looking, without asking me, which opened up the floodgates of phone calls and emails. This was extremely frustrating. I had to ask her several times to stop sending me places unless she checked with me first. If you need to find a place quickly, this might be the service for you, but if you aren't in a rush and just want to start looking at places, I'm not sure this is the service to use.

Agree with Kathleen K. Just read all these reviews about THE CLARE ESTATE. BORDENTOWN. NJ. *******. It seems this is idyllic place? Maybe it was premature of us to take our loved one out!

The problem isn't so much A Place For Mom, it's their clients. I've had to look for assisted living twice for a relative and ended up at a place for Mom for one reason: These places hide their prices as if it were a state secret. So I end up with A Place For Mom or other broker because it's just too tedious to call every place in town. I can find out everything else I need online but not the prices. Hey, you prices with A Place For Mom who gives it to your customers. Why not just disclose prices right on your website? I tried emailing for prices and a salesperson called me! Aarggh..

The person at A Place For Mom we worked with was very nice and helpful.

Reason I chose this business:

I did not choose this service, nor wanted to use this service. Every retirement home I looked at on line as soon as I requested info, I was linked to here. I felt I had no choice since I couldn’t independently research on line. I guess I should have called around to get info.

The people that answered the phone each time I called were very nice and helpful. I was transferred to a senior living advisor named Carrie. She stated that they could not provide the service I was looking for and stated she would email information with other resources. I never received the information and called back and was given her email. I emailed her and she has not responded. I was disappointed because I was already stressed about finding a facility for my mom and the lack of follow up was very disappointing.

It's a good service for the most part, but I had a bad experiance. My sister-in-law has lived in a senior community for nearly 10 years. I had spent a lot of time there. If somebody who lives there gets someone to sign up, they are compensated. We made our own appointment and signed up for a apartment in the same complex as my sister-in-law. Because this place was one of the ones that was listed, A place for mom took the compensation, and my sister -in-law did not get it. We are at RidgePoint in Minnetonka.
