“Amusing but not always accurate...”

Questions and answers are (as near as I can tell) uncensored and un-monitored in any way. This results in some crazy questions and even crazier answers sometimes.

“Was A Good Site When I Joined But Got Worse Over Time”

I can remember joining this website as a young college student back in 2009. Then it was very good. I'd ask many questions and get plenty of good answers and some bad ones too. Now I'm lucky if I get 1 answer and whenever I do it's normally not very informative. Fortunately I have started using internet forums more over the years to get help. Yahoo Answers has become so ancient.

I downloaded Google Chrome in hopes of using Google Chrome. But for some reason, all and I mean ALL of my searches have been searched on Yahoo Answers. It's gotten to the point where I need to either type in "Google.com" just to search Google or open a bookmark leading to Google. Would NOT use.

The religion section is just a war zone... a lot of them don't like Christians (in my opinion, that is).

In the "family" section, some of the answers can not only be toxic, but biased towards the younger age group. For example, I saw this teenager talk about how his/her parents wouldn't support his/her dreams of making it into the film industry. A lot of them convinced the teenager to give up and listen to his/her parents, while the other answers that convinced the teenager to wait to pursue the dream by him/herself was ultimately thumbed down (or not even given a thumbs up).

Don't get me started about the gender section. It's full of man/woman haters who are obviously bitter. Sometimes good questions would be asked and then there would be woman/man bashing answers.

I only gave this website two stars because I'm hella generous and it can be helpful when you get answers from the right people.

Yahoo! Answers used to be a half-decent site for answering and asking questions. Unfortunately, many of the users have abandoned the site since the new format change back in 2014. Yahoo! Answers was known for its whole lifespan for stupid questions and answers, and the problem has been exacerbated in recent years, remaining the troll haven it always ways. These days the trolls are usually not the funny ones, but tryhardy trolls who throw a lot of provocative content in and leave out the funny. The community - depending on the section - often gets hysterical, judgmental, vicious, and otherwise toxic. Furthermore, there is a large presence of radical right users on the site, many of whom would make Fox News look like Obama. In addition, there are a large number of individuals who are very racist or otherwise hateful (especially against Muslims) Some of them are top contributors. Since 2011 or so, the moderation for the site has become abysmal, and relies on users to police the site. Racist, sexist and other bigoted content has been up for years, and often reaches the top results in popular Google searches. Reporting them usually does nothing. Some sections are now unofficial hate sites, and essentially the entire site becomes a meeting ground for hateful people after major events stereotypical of race/religion/nationality/etc. Such as riots and terrorist attacks. Since 2014 with the new format change, the site has also become highly buggy. Additionally, one slip up on Yahoo! Answers could cost you your entire Yahoo! Account, and they won't tell you why.

However, Yahoo! Answers isn't all bad. There are some sections that still provide good help to people who ask, such as the Mathematics and Physics, as well as the Video & Online Games and Computers & Internet sections. Do keep in mind that there may be occasional troll spillover.

Avoid the Current Events, Religion & Spirituality, Other - Cultures & Groups, Other - Society & Culture and Politics sections at all costs. These sections are full of hate mongers. Another section to avoid is Gender Studies, which is full of antifeminists. The LGBT section is full of trolls and often receives spillover from homophobes, too. The list of sections to avoid I provided is not exhaustive.

The Polls & Surveys section is largely used by teens and underage users (i. E. preteens) who want to rant, with some wingnut spillover, so don't expect any good questions and answers from that section unless you want to have some fun. A lot of the countries on the Travel section (for example, China) are full of negativity that often cross the line into racism.

At this point, I would not recommend Yahoo! Answers as a source of information, as you can find better information on other sites. If you want to use Yahoo! Answers, you should avoid all topics that people are emotional over, only using it for hard, emotionless facts. If you do ask an emotional question, do not expect a lot of intelligent answers. You are better off using sites like Quora for better answers.

I used yahoo answers a lot a few years ago, back then you could actually get relevant answers. Now it's mostly full of people who are just guessing or who are only there to vent their own anger at other people. I get a lot of irrelevant answers or simply rude "answers". I don't even know how many times I've had replies such as "because you're stupid" or "why are you even asking questions on here". It's really just full of people who are out to be mean to others and make everyone feel bad. If you want real answers DO NOT use this website, you will only be disappointed and probably insulted a few times.

I used to enjoy this website very much, however in my opinion far too many of my questions are deleted. I could understand this if my questions were in violation of the Community Guidelines, however most of my questions are legitimate and I am posting them for the sole reason of increasing my knowledge, which is what this website is supposedly for.

In my experience the worst section of Yahoo! Answers seems to be Cars and Transportation. I have posted numerous questions about buses, which is one of my main interests, only for the majority of such questions to be deleted for no apparent reason.

Sometimes it's hard to decide which are dumber, the questions or the answers, and there are obviously people who enjoy playing dumb as well as those that don't need to pretend. I've used it, without expectations, and if I get lucky that's a bonus. I expect most users to be on the young side of adolescent, so if I get an adult response, that's a bonus too. It's entertaining, but people have all sorts of reasons for posting to it and not all of them are going to be much help to you if you have a genuine and urgent need for advice.

It is what it is, and people aren't necessarily out to deceive you intentionally, though they might be. You should look around and get a feel for it before you pronounce judgment. Anywhere that's open as a public forum is going to be a source of unreliable information, so you have to make your own decisions on what to filter out and what to believe.

If you use it, try to find someone you can give an honest, informative answer to, instead of just complaining that nobody's doing the same for you. It's good karma.
