Yes you can just go to weather.com and check your local weather but my family has always had a portable and satellite driven weather station. Finding these devices even on the internet is tough these days as it seems everyone thinks their pathetic iphone can give them an accurate forecast of the weather. For the true weather you need a portable station at your home and this site sells some of the best ones out there.
I purchased weather station and it is a joke. Very hard to read the sending unit keeps disconnecting. Called customer service and they told me this happens when you have interference in your house such as a microwave, cell phone refrigerator, cordless phone basically anything electrical. So therefore the station should never work unless you put it in a room without anything in it. The support person was also very rude about it. They also will not refund my money on the product be the say it is not defective. My advice do not buy anything from this company.
I'm ready to buy their WS-5000, I think it's close to the most expensive station that they make. The problem is I've written them multiple times and they won't respond. First I contacted their support, that was a week or two ago, no response. Then I created a ticket within the support area, still no response. There are a couple of issues here. One, there's a pretty good storm headed my way that I would like to buy a weather station in time to measure it for. And 2, I have mounting requirements (I'd like to know if I can mount it to a fence post, and if so what do I need to purchase to do so). The station itself gets great reviews. Their total and complete lack of response after I've contacted them multiple times gets them 1 star.
