For a few years now I have been wearing Allbirds wool- and tree runners. Their service in store or online is excellent. The products are of an excellent quality and there is a feeling that they really care about the environment. I love the materials they use especially New Zealand wool. Exceptionally comfortable footwear.
I purchased 6 pairs of Allbirds shoes over approximately 4-5 years. Three pairs were their "tree" versions which have a nylon type material. While these shoes are comfortable, every pair of these "tree" versions wore through the toe area within 6-9 months of use. I probably wore these shoes 2-3 times per week during these periods. Allbirds did not accept responsibility for the premature defects of their shoes and after contacted, refused to provide a refund, credit or replacement. While I spent approximately $400 for three pairs of shoes, each of which had the same product defect, they only offered a $25 gift card. I considered that an insult. I will never buy another product from Allbirds. In my opinion, their products have poor workmanship and/or materials and are not worth the price charged. They do not value quality or their customer base.
I recently purchased a pair of Wool Runner Mizzles from the AllBirds site. The size I chose fit me perfectly (I'm usually a 7.5 or an 8, and all of the AllBirds size 8s that I ordered fit me perfectly). I took the Mizzles out for a trial stroll around the neighborhood, and it only took 5-10 minutes for the back of my heels to start feeling violated. I was wearing a pair of thick black socks, too.
When I got home, I inspected the backs of the shoes. No wonder I felt like my heels were getting shredded -- the threads used to sew the plastic protectors on the back of the shoes are all exposed. There's at least an inch of horrible thick threading back there, fat enough that I could feel it THROUGH MY SOCKS.
I immediately ordered a pack of Dr. Scholl's heel liners, and applied them to the backs of my shoes. Instant relief.
Other than this glaring design flaw, I love these shoes. But, AllBirds, listen up, if you need to sew a plastic protector to the back of the shoe that badly, at least cover your horrible sewing job! These threads are chewing up people's heels. Personally, I don't think the little piece of plastic is more important than wound-free heels.
Here's hoping that AllBirds gets this memo.
Everyone else -- if your heels are getting chewed up when you wear these things -- it's not you. It's these threads!
Tip for consumers:
Buy yourself a pair heel liners before you go out for your initial stroll!

This product has been delivering on all fronts since I got them a little over a month ago. As a college student I walk a lot and need a shoe that was up for the task. Not only do these shoes look better than most running shoes but, they are also very comfortable.
Since the top section of the shoe is made from wool the runners can breathe very well. To the point where I can wear them without sock and know that they will air out just fine. The use of this material also means that during the winter months my feet tend to be quite warm.
The sole of the product is made of a firm yet soft rubber. In the past I have had issues of foot cramps due to standing or walking for to long. However, the rubber in the wool runner is soft enough to support my feet. But it is firm enough to make sure you don't feel like you are sinking when you take a step. When it comes to traction some work could be done to improve this aspect. Due to its shallow groves it is hard to get footing when there is snow or mud on the ground. But this not a big issue since you will more than likely wear boots when there is a lot of snow.
When ordering the all birds they only come in whole sizes. So make sure that you order a size up if you are a half size. I am a 10.5 and ordered size 11, and they fit perfectly.
Overall these shoes are great for any active person who doesn't want to look like they are wearing athletic shoes.
I visited their NYC Soho store a year ago. I loved the customer service and initially, their shoes were fantastic, although the shoes could be slightly more chic. I give overall rating of 4 stars because even though the shoes initially felt great, they seem to lose the comfiness a little bit after a few months, unlike Stan Smiths (Adidas) that are my all-time favourite trainers.
I ordered a pair of the wool runners. They came in 2 days. The colour (yellow) is very pretty. The size seems good. I wear 8 1/2 and the 9 seems great. I went for a 3 kilometre walk and had to go barefoot the last half kilometre because my blisters were so bad. I have very tender feet but I walk a lot so was surprized and disappointed.
First a little about my feet. I am a 58 year old woman who has worn a size 10 forever but as I age I am finding that in some shoes I need a size 11. I also have had issues with what seems like all my shoes since is was a kid. Rubbing in the wrong places, and not comfortable or having to "break them in" before I could feel comfortable.
Now to sizing. I first tried the Allbird runners in a women's size 10, wore them for a bit and found them too short. Given 10 is the largest size in women (guys - you really need to increase your size offerings!) I contacted Allbirds and they suggested a men's 9 for me. Since I was exchanging I thought I would try the wool lounger instead thinking it may offer more room for my toes. Nope STILL too small. Back to Allbirds who suggested a men's 11. Jackpot!
These are hands down the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I had them on all day yesterday, walked 2 miles, and at 8:00 pm I looked down to see if they were still on my feet! Yep. That comfortable. The wool let's my feet breath and the shoe just forms to my foot. I would have given them 5 stars if not for the back and forth on the fit. I was going to order the men's 14 for my husband but I do not trust they will fit.
I will definitely be buying more for me though!
