How Big of a Problem is Return Fraud?

While nearly 90% of Americans believe that most retailers’ return practices are fair, this does not stop many from taking advantage of the nation’s retail businesses. Perhaps the old saying that “the customer is always right,” is to blame for why many take advantage of return policies, which become especially lenient and accommodating around the holidays. The graphic below depicts the rate and severity of post-holiday fraudulent returns — a problem for many retailers, large and small.
