Modeling and Cracked iPhone Screen

I know the title may sound a bit strange, but it’s a true story.  I decided to have a conversation with a few up and coming models by telling them about my blog and trying to get permission to maybe blog about their journey.

I mean how fun would it be to start a blog about someone who may be a famous actress or model some day … following them form rags to riches.  Okay maybe not rags, but you know what I mean.

So, I set up an appointment with one model, let’s call her Abigail. Abigail and I were to meet for lunch at Rutabegorz.  I’ve never heard of it or been there.  It is in Orange, CA. which isn’t a place that I visit often.  I guess it must have been near where she had an audition or shoot or something.

I get there and it is a healthy, vegetarian,  hippy-dippy place that I am not fond of, but hey I guess America’s Next Top Models must love the stuff.  And, who knows, maybe that is how they keep their figure.

I look over the menu, not impressed and stressing about what in the world I am going to find satisfying. I wait and wait and wait…. no Abigail. So I try calling her it goes to voice mail.  I try texting, no response.  Great, I’ve been stood up and now I have to eat something for lunch that I really don’t care for.  I settled on the Thai Quinoa Salad, pay and head out the door.

As I am jumping in my car, guess who I get a call from.. yep Abigail.  Apparently, she was running out the door with a million things in her hand, dropped her iPhone and cracked the screen.  She could see text and hear her phone ring, but couldn’t get the phone to pick up and wasn’t able to respond to texts.

She tells me that she is at Cell Phone Repair Orange and her phone should be fixed in 30 mins, could I come meet her there for the interview.

Long story short I did her interview in a cell phone repair shop.   I will share her story on my blog in my next article.. it is a good one so be sure to come back and read it.  Seems like these types of things always happen to Abigail.  I am sure you have friends that crazy things always seem to happen to.  You would never believe it if you heard it from someone else, but knowing your friend you know she isn’t lying about having two flat tires on the freeway on the way to your house.

I don’t do this very often, but I have to give them props here.  I was very impressed with the repair shop.  It was clean – they had cold water in the fridge for us and free WIFI.  They fixed Abigail’s phone while we waited and I think the price was only like $100. If If I ever need my cracked iphone screen replaced. I am coming here.  Below is their Yelp Page and Facebook page:

San Clemente California – Top Models Everywhere

Have you ever visited sunny southern California?  One of my favorite places to visit is San Clemente, CA.  I have a friend there that I say with.  I love the beach community and although it has changed over the years, it still has that small beach town feeling.  You can still walk along the main street for great food and shopping and parking is still free.

One my most recent visit, my friend and I started talking about my  blog as we made our way to the beach to grab happy hour on the pier.

I am not quite sure if it was because we were talking about the blog, but there seemed to be the Next America’s Top Models everywhere we turned.

Why is it that Southern California attracts so many “models”?  Do they migrate here or are they just “born that way” .  Maybe it is the lure of Hollywood and all that LA seems to offer that causes them to seemingly migrate to southern California.

I know I know – some of you will hate that I am referring to the beauty outside not inside, but really that is what Americas Next Top Model is out about.  I am not saying there aren’t beautiful people in other parts of the country or other parts of the world … just saying that it seems like there is a higher population there.

Just an observation ….

Anyway, food for thought. I am giving a shout out to his San Clemente Family owned carpet cleaning business. www.sanclementecarpetclean.com.  Thanks for letting me hang at your place last week!

The TV Show

I am sure you have seen the reality show Americas Next Top where women compete for money and a modeling contract.

The show began in the spring of 2003 on the UPN tv network with former supermodel and tv personality Tyra Banks as the show’s executive producer and the show’s host. The show begins each new cycle with the contestants competing in different challenges and photo shoots, and at the end of the show, one of the aspiring models is eliminated.

How To Break Into Modeling

model

You have been obsessed with fashion magazines for as long as you can remember, and your daydreams usually consist of you strutting your stuff down a long runway at New York Fashion Week.

You live for the latest issue of Glamour and Vogue and spend hours in front of the mirror practicing your poses for a photographer. Everyone says you have “the look”, so maybe it’s time to do something about it.

Short Girls Can Model Too!

If you’re anything like me, a 5’5” girl who thinks modeling is the last possible job you could ever hold, think again. Personally, when I think of a model, I think of a tall, slender woman who is tan and has perfect features. But the truth is, short girls like us can make it in the modeling world too, if you know where to look.

To name a few:

  • DEVON AOKI – 5’5″ – She walked the runway for Chanel and Versace!
  • TWIGGY – 5’4″ – British Supermodel
  • KATE MOSS – 5’6″ – Role Model and Supermodel in Size 0 Fashion

Check out this magazine Bella Petite – The founder of this magazine organized shows and events for models 5’5″ and under.   She created and produced the a nationally televised show for petite models.

  • Practice makes perfect. Practice your poses and make sure you have a versatile look.  Have a friend take photos of you in a number of different poses so you know which ones you need to perfect.
  • Be confident.  You will be getting a lot of constructive criticism so you will need a thick skin.  Be prepared to answer lots of questions.
  • Hire an agency.  Pick one with a great reputation and someone who is professional when you meet them.  Interview them to make sure they have your same goals in mind.  Have them take photos and put a portfolio together for you.
