Has anyone here tried Kindle Unlimited?

What do you think of it?

I have heard of it but not tried it. If I remember right, you don't get all the books in Amazon, just a huge selection of fairly popular ones.

This article suggests prime may be better.

I actually signed up for the trial. It's OK. Lots of books from unknown authors, some are good. I can't seem to find a search feature. Or maybe I'm using it wrong. I don't know.

Please do let me know how it works out. I'm definitely tempted by the ability to read unlimited books, even if they are not from famous authors. I'm sure there is some good content there!

I decided to sign up. I got some amazing books. Hopefully this continues. It's well worth it as I've discovered some excellent authors and I'm reading so much now!

Don't forget there's a good reason why authors become famous, their books are read by lots of people who enjoy them.
A suggestion: Rather than waste your time reading mediocre books by unknown authors select from the thousands of great ones written by famous authors. If you don't have access to some good book reviews such as those in the New York Times, the librarian at your local library can be of great help.

I kind of disagree. Some of those authors are pretty good. I'm reading a few books that are bestseller material, just haven't been discovered. The search for unlimited is good, and helps identify popular books

I've used it. You will find mostly unknown authors or authors trying to break into the book business. Some books are VERY good and some would make better bonfire fodder. You don't know until you try them. They actually have a few USA Today bestsellers on Kindle Unlimited.

The price is worth it if you are a voracious reader. You can only have 10 books checked out at a time though. Once you read a book you can return it and get another one to fill the empty slot. There are times where you can get book sets that will fill only one slot. If you like the author you will have the option to join their email list and get free books or deep discounts for certain books.

Otherwise, you have some other options that are free:

I got Kindle Unlimited for a free 1month trial, and I cancelled it after the free trial ended. There were some good books, but many others were the floozy "romance" type books with pictures of a gorgeous girl whose dress was falling off in the arms of a handsome man. And trying to find Kindle Unlimited books on Amazon was hard. Kindle Unlimited also had a lot of books that were Book 1 of a series, so if you got interested in Book 1, you had to pay for the other books in the series. It wasn't for me.

Floozy romance type books? I like those. I'm kidding. Mostly :)

To Kevin. Amidst all of our far too serious and sometimes self-important complaints, the humor is much appreciated. Keep up the good work!

If you read a lot, it will be a good choice

I got Kindle unlimited,(thanks!) It's got a good selection of books from various authors,. Mostly new ones. The search feature is a great way to find a book.

I did the one month trial of Amazon Kindle Unlimited, and I got what books I needed in that one month, then cancelled before I got charged. I wasn't interested in novels, fiction, or non-fiction, so the books were not hard or long to read at all. My reason for Unlimited was to gather how-to books on topics such as beauty, cleaning, jewelry, and crafts. I was able to find many books on these topics, and I had the time to read them and write down the information that I needed, so then I exhausted all the books in the Unlimited category. A few times I did have ten books, so I deleted a few to be able to add more. At the time I also had Amazon Prime, and when searching for books there was a little caption under each book denoting if it was eligible for Unlimited. I had no problem finding Unlimited books, even though they are lumped in with all the books that Amazon offers. It takes a little bit of time and patience, which was ok with me. I don't think I would have enough books to read to justify having Unlimited all year long, but it is great for a few months. Cancelling seems to be very easy and quick and accurate. I LOVE Amazon for almost any service or product that I need. Overall Amazon is my go-to online company.

Do authors get any reasonable payments for books via prime / unlimited, I wonder.

Does prime allow you to borrow books or something?

You are allowed to borrow one book per month and only if that book has the choice, borrow with Prime. They also have a free book if you want to sign up for a trial of Kindle Unlimited. Cancel that Kindle before your trial ends, and you won't have any more obligation, and you got a free book.
