“Charges you to get your business on platforms that have NO traffic anyway, says you aren't verified”

Natalie R.
6/20/22

It all started because I wanted my business to appear on Alexa. To do that it has to be on Yahoo. To get on Yahoo you have to be on Yelp and use Yext because Yelp may or may not send your listing to Yahoo. Yelp is worthless anyway because nobody uses it. So, Yext will charge you at least $500 for it's lowest level listing to get you on such coveted sites as "hotfrog" and "citysearch" which again, no one uses anyway. You run a search of your business with them and they show you all the sites you are not listed in, or something is wrong with your listing, even though you know it's not true. For instance, I knew I had a strong Google, Facebook and Bing listing, but Yext said I didn't. So, I figured, what the heck, I will fork over the $500 this one time and see if it makes a difference. They show that within 24 hours nearly all of the sites are now updated with my information. About a week later I go to one of the sites and it prompts me to run a search for my business. Guess what? I am not found, so they will scan my listings for me. And wow! My business is missing from all the big sites, like Google, Bing, Facebook, Twitter, and... HOTFROG! And all I have to do is sign up for YEXT to improve my business rankings. So, this is an endless cycle they have you running around in never to return. You need Yext no matter which way you go - only Yext can save you. But guess what? Yext doesn't do squat. Alexa still can't find my business when asked for a local recommendation but she can give my address when asked for by name. Then again, who uses Alexa for directions? People use Apple or Google maps and my business has been on there for years. So, audios Yext.

You know what is FASCINATING? Yext is a directory and reputation management business yet they are strategically hidden online. Their Facebook page doesn't allow reviews. They have no Google business listing to also screen reviews. Now I know why and you should too! So we are left with third party smaller platforms that luckily give people a voice to help inform future buyers.

First off, please note that you have to provide cancellation within writing 30 days prior to the end of your contract. If you do not, Article 3.1 of the "automatically renewed" contract will lock you in for another $6000+ ($3000 bi-yearly) annual fee. There is absolutely NO GRACE PERIOD to reverse the charge. So if you don't put an automatic reminder on your own calendar or renewal emails go into your spam folder, you're screwed.

When you try to request a refund 2 days after the renewal, they say "Sorry. Article 3.1 has locked you into a new contract." So shady and such a poor business model by Yext. This wasn't a customer coming to them 6 months in. They were contacted the day it was reflected on the bank statement. My advice, if you are signed up with Yext already... contact them to disable automatic renewals so that you don't end up in an expensive vicious cycle of renewing bills and renewing contracts. But my better advice is to support another service that makes honest money from people who actually need the service and doesn't have to take advantage of people. We will be looking into Moz Local, they will let you pay by client listing while Yext makes you sign up for a minimum.

Tip for consumers:
If you are needing help with your company and not an internet savvy, do not use this company to help you set up the system that you pay for.

Every time I speak with one of their reps, it seems I get nothing but grief. I was recently on a conference call with 4 of them. They promised to finally combine my 2 accounts that I've repeatedly requested for 3 years now. I also told them I was not interested in buying blocks to save money and was happy with my buy as I sign clients up. What did they do? Well, without notifying me, without first invoicing me, without any communication whatsoever, they charged my credit card $12,973.33. So sick of their games.

I had been a customer since 2018 with all my customers using the service. I was automatically renewed in late February. I reached out to my rep to discuss and he never responded. I just concluded a three month communication with Yext's ticket system and they will not cancel my auto renewal as they claim i had inform them 30 days before renewal. Had a rep contacted me i would have. These are tough times. All my agency's clients are closed. I had cancelled each individual client account with Yext. I offered to pay one month as a compromise but they will not accept. I just told them to terminate my account completely and will never work with them again. I assume i will see them in court. What a poor way to treat a customer. There are plenty of other services out there.

I normally wouldn't leave such a horrible review of an online business but I do wed development as well as SEO and this is just a bunch of poop. They list you in web sites that almost no one uses, some of the sites where actually going out of business until they were placed in the Yext arena.
It's a scam. If it was a good thing they wouldn't constantly send out huge amounts of SPAM begging and attempting to have people purchase.
Web Developers and SEO specialists do not use them, if you were the average Joe or business don't waste your time...
Let me put it this way. If it wasn't for the amount of SPAM you get from them you wouldn't even know they exist. It proves how useless they are.

After reading these previous comments and reviews regarding Yext, I've gotta say that I'm considering starting a class action lawsuit against Yext and how they operate. I truly believe there is some form of extortion going on here. Also, Yext has partnered with Yahoo, which makes it difficult to get control of your own listing. They will not assist you if you don't pay them. They have a monopoly on directories and as a business owner can't do much about it.
And as a previous reviewer mentions, it's true, it is interesting that Yext barely has an online presence, when online reputation is the service that they claim to offer.

I don't even know where to start except that Yext has hijacked my client's listings. They will not let you have control and although they have me in a contract for the year for $2000 and will not release me from it, I've pulled all my clients from their platform.

The Yext service is meant to help you get your clients NAP listed correctly on local and relevant directories, 6 months later in a contract with Yext and all of my clients still have numerous directory listings that are incorrect.
At this point I'm wondering what exactly I'm paying for? Seriously, what am I paying for when this is the only service that they offer, and my clients still have many inconstant listings?

In addition, on more occasions than one the Yext platform has jumbled up all of my client's information. By this I mean, every client account that I had listed with Yext was pushing out info associated with other client accounts.
Ex. GMB listings of my clients would have a completely different businesses website and or company description info or contact information, from other clients of mine listed with Yext. I KID YOU NOT! This is the complete opposite of what I'm paying them for. I've had to spend hours of my own time correcting this, only for it to happen again.
I sent numerous emails with details and links to Yext support and my account manager regarding this, asking for help and for explanation and nobody was ever able to help me or explain. They dropped the ball both times. Nobody could provide an explanation. They left me on my own to correct it and manage it. Yext support has been disappointing on every inquiry since being in partnership with them, except once.

Another bit of information to point out is that I get numerous weekly emails informing me that portions of the Yext platform are down. I mean these are regular notifications. I just got two, right now.
Yext is seriously the worst. I would not recommend this company/or service to anyone. I consider this review a public service announcement, hoping I can save some other business owner from falling into the trap that I did with Yext.
Again, I am a paying customer of theirs and feel that partnering with Yext is the worst business decision I've ever made. There are several other tools out there that will do what Yext does, that are far more professional, efficient and successful in getting the job done.

Started with Yext in 2017. It was ok and it was a resource I needed to generate more business with. Watch out for the auto-renew as it's difficult to cancel with YEXT as there is absolutely no live contact, no email nor phone to cancel! Disputed with my credit card company but it may take up to 90 days for a possible refund!

This company tries to get you to sign up with them. They don't do what they promise in the first place, and if you ever leave them all the listings they've created for you are owned by YEXT so, If you ever need to update or remove this listing in the future, you CAN'T! You are stocked and there is nothing you can do! In addition to that, you not getting a customer support if you are not paying this company, they act like jerks if you are not their customer anymore.

Taylor, we appreciate the time as well as the effort you made in sending over the list of publishers are you trying to update your listings on.

Yext does not have control over any of these listings. Each of the sites has control. Once you cancel your Yext subscription, we remove our locks and whatever information you last updated is what stays there unless the listings provider changes them.

We do not own the information and we do not own the publishers. Only the business owner or the publisher can update the listings. It is up to each of the individual publishers if they would like to give the business control of their listings. These are not in our control.

If you have any other questions on how that works, please don't hesitate to reach out to support@yext.com.

Yext manages Yahoo's search engine. For month's now they have listed my business hours incorrectly. Trying to reach someone who can fix that is so far for me impossible. Yahoo directs you to Yahoo's own website who then after a few frustrating phone calls directs you to Yext. After a pleasant text interaction they were able to direct me to register to claim the free listing. Easy enough however they don't have a place to enter business hours unless you pay them. They stopped texting me when I declined to upgrade and puchase the service. I might have looked at their product if they had been willing to help me with my issue.

Thank you for reaching out about this, Chris. We apologize for the back and forth and inconvenience regarding this matter. We have reached out to our team about this situation and have discovered that the Yahoo listing in question is live and displays with the correct information that is currently in the back end of our system. This was provided via Yext Partner DexYP with whom you work. Since you are working directly with DexYP, we recommend that you reach out directly to them for any additional questions, including incorrect information appearing on listings and login information. Otherwise, try changing your selections above."

It's a shame that our company even has to take the time to write this review, but after looking at the others it seems to be a consistent pattern of how Yext deals with their clients and try to keep you on a contract that they didn't even fulfill.

We were left hanging for weeks to learn the program and receive help from their "experts" yet - they fail to deliver. We decided to test on our own and luckily we were able to manage it briefly... but afterwards noticed the value was something we could do ourselves and didn't feel the need to proceed forward.

Were hoping our company's review will be taken seriously for anyone to consider them and be sure to write more reviews on other platforms until Yext can come to an agreement with us.

All businesses will find old indexed data that doesn't go away. Yext will continuously fix things that repeatedly need fixing. If you look at many indexed websites, they're purposely listed differently to game internet indexing. For example, a listing a 100 Main St, # 505 usually reflects a location when viewed on a graphic map that is often a location where there is no unit # 505. Type the main address in a search engine and it will list the current tenants. Welcome to the world of SEO for free.

We didn't see our business on Yahoo map anymore like it used to be for 13 years. Yahoo directed us to Yext. We got talked into subscribing. We told them what we wanted. We filled out everything they asked. They told us it would take 30 days to see our business on the map and other things to match up. After about a month, we did finally see our business on there. Problem is, it didn't last. I think it lasted a total of 2 months, we even kept our Yext info site and acct updated for months following and still nothing. We were back off the map almost the entire time being signed up, still are today, not within any search engine searches, and my subscription ends next month. Needless to say I'm not using them again. A complete waste of $500 for the 6 mos we paid. Turns out you can actually go through Yahoo directly and pay less! We got ripped off so warning others. Probably won't be going through Yahoo either. I'm done with Yahoo & Yext altogether, unless it's free.

I used Yext once to straighten out some business listings after obtaining assurances that it was a one time payment. The next year they attempted to charge my card at the end of the year without authorization. Charges were reversed by the card company. In 2017 they attempted to charge the card again. It was reversed and the merchant was blocked by the card company. Beware

Thank you for leaving your feedback, Reid. We have sent you a few messages asking for more information so that we can further look into this issue. We'd like to apologize if there was any miscommunication around how our services work. So you're aware, we offer subscriptions on an annual billing cycle, because we also pay the listing sites on your behalf. Doing this allows us to guarantee that your information will show up accurately on those sites. All subscriptions are set to renew automatically each year. Since we push and protect your data on a daily basis, the automatic renewal prevents any disruption in service. Auto-renewals are the standard practice for software services, and you have the option to opt out of the renewal or cancel your service altogether at any point. As a client, you should also have received an email notice 30 days ahead of your automatic renewal via email. If you did not receive notice, please let us know. We look forward to hearing back from you and helping to resolve this issue.

Nothing is life is free, but should I have to pay for nothing? I literally want nothing from Yahoo and Yext, yet seemingly have to pay to achieve that goal. Yahoo has a local business listing for my company that has our products incorrectly categorized. I just need it fixed, or deleted.
It's free to submit a change through Yext, but no guarantee Yahoo will approve and implement it. I could find no way to just request my business be removed, so I submitted a change/correction. When I submitted this change, Yahoo implemented a typo I inadvertently made, but did not implement the actual changes we desired regarding the product description. Status of my account is still listed as 'submitted'. This is telling!

*******@Yext.com has conveniently avoided answering my request to just remove my listing altogether, and has defaulted to the same canned response we all get... that I can make corrections on my dashboard but that "there is no guarantee that Yahoo will accept this information and implement a change since this is a free account."

My dashboard is correct. The listing is not. Yahoo will fix it if you pay, won't if you don't. I don't want to pay for a service I don't need, so it seems like the right thing to do to allow it to be deleted as I didn't put it there in the first place, but I seemingly can't unless I pay. Is this not like being held hostage? Maybe even the textbook definition of blackmail.

I see the reviews for Yext are mostly 5's or 1's, so it's like all or nothing with them. How do I just get to nothing...
