Isn't it kind of sad to charge people this much to look for work? I looked at how much credits cost, and felt reluctant to use it as a consumer.

Hi Kam- We definitely appreciate your concerns for the professionals that use our site, and I'd be happy to explain. Thumbtack works as a targeted marketing system where pros can choose the customers they’d like to send quotes to, and they only pay when they want to send a quote. Instead of spending large amounts of money to advertise generally, our pros are paying to get their information in front of specific customers who are actively seeking their type of service. We also refund pros if customers don’t look at their quotes within 48 hours. This way pros are only paying if the customer sees their information and gives them consideration for the job.

For your concern, Dave- When pros are removed from the site or disable their account, they should be removed from SEO searches within 24 hours.

To address other concerns in this thread, I want to clarify that we do not generate fake requests, and we have a verification process that is both automated and manual to filter requests. If our pros find anything suspicious, we encourage them to let us know right away so we can look into it.

We love hearing your success stories, and we appreciate those that have shared their experiences. We encourage any professional who is having trouble getting hired to contact us at the phone number or email listed above. We have a great customer support team that is ready to help!

The site can not be trusted. It can generate fake clients to suck up your money. I myself did a test and it would say email was read and it was never read, because I never opened it. I never used it again this was a lil more than a year ago. I am sure that some are real and some are fake.

And sometimes I question the validity of the jobs. I have actually had the Thumbtack professionals word the bid with an extremely fair price and never got the call. Did Thumbtack create the job so I could spend my money bidding.

A drawback is that once you stop advertising, Thumbtack will continue to use your business name to attract bidders, but you won't get any of the business. Because Thumbtack has major SEO power, people looking for you often come across Thumbtack higher in the listing than your listing, then they are diverted to your competitors. This probably is more damage than what they charge for the advertising.

Not sad at all. It takes money to make money! It's all about cost of doing business. If you know have good business sense you will see an incredible return on your tiny investment. My company gets 90% of its business through Thumbtack. We spend between $1 and $10 on each Thumbtack lead we respond to. We spend $0 on advertising. We land the job on 25% of the Thumbtack leads we respond to, with an average income of $1,000 per job. That means we are spending between $4 and $40 on Thumbtack for every $1,000 we make. If that's not affordable I don't know what is! Now imagine if Thumbtack didn't exist. We would need to spend hundreds if not thousands on advertising to get the same amount of business. In all honesty my business could not easily survive without Thumbtack. We are indebted to Thumbtack for making it all possible! Such an awesome service, you would be crazy not to take advantage of it.

It is worth it considering the amount of exposure my business gets, I buy 12 credits and get plenty of work, the credits I buy cost $17 but the amont of money I make is worth every penny when I get a $200 job for 2 credits.

All I can say that I started using thumbtack back in November and it's been very profitable for me. I do have a website and the state i live in some of the competitions paying to much for Adwords as they bid way over the top for the leading spot.

Well, I can see your point, but what I'm paying for is thumbtack's successful ability to procure an interested prospective client. For me, it's much better money spent than paying for Google Adwords or a billboard that does not guarantee a qualified lead. Those advertising options can be expensive. With thumbtack, I know at least my money is spent on someone receptive to my service and ther timing is relevant as well. I'm not saying its perfect, and I still think it's too expensive, but it's just one of many options available out there that I've decided to implement.
