I belong to several Meetup groups but after I've signed up for an event and am on the list to go to an event, it doesn't recognize me as a member and I can't find the events I've signed up for.
Empty shell; NO meetings, groups in my region: that is exceptional! Northern VA is a nest for hiking, acting, reading, etc. among a high density population with high income. You must do it on purpose to have nothing in this region (Washington DC region). But their website doesn';t inform you of hte number of groups before you have paid. SCAM. Fraudulent practices. I.e: I was charged for a renewal of over $250 in fFebruary 2024 without any warning and certainly without my concern. They became Fraud Central.

I think that these people in fun Peeps in St. Louis MO part of meetup can learn from me be kind, Be welcoming, Be a true friend Be a person of integrity Because people who want to join needs to feel all those things without being threatened by people there talking about people is down right rude and uncalled for and the leaders be the kind of leaders that you would want because one day the shoe will be on the other foot. Talking about someone who cannot defend themselves is not a person with integrity it makes you a person who does not care who they hurt because what you do to others will someday bite you in the $#*! because it will happen Leaders should be just that leading them in something good not evil. Being intrusive into someone's personal life makes you nosey and would you like it if someone did that to you The leaders of the group needs improvements because what you do is what they do being a bunch of people you judge others and that is wrong for leaders to do when someone says don't get into my personal life it is just that and you being a leader is not being intrusive when your not asked, Intrusive is very kind from me because it is so so bad what these people do
Tip for consumers:
I was not treated with the respect I deserved and the leaders was way to intrusive in my life and told me what to do instead of asking and I can say yes or no and them being a leader is knowing when to back away because leaders don't pick peoples dates it don't work that way you first need to change yourself first because you cannot change people you except them for who they are
Meet up failed to follow laws Denise Jones and a bunch of other there did this 565.184. Abuse of an elderly person, a person with disability, or a vulnerable person — penalty. — 1. A person commits the offense of abuse of an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person if he or she:
(1) Purposely engages in conduct involving more than one incident that causes emotional distress to an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person. The course of conduct shall be such as would cause a reasonable elderly person, person with a disability, or vulnerable person to suffer substantial emotional distress; or
(2) Intentionally fails to provide care, goods or services to an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person. The result of the conduct shall be such as would cause a reasonable elderly person, person with a disability, or vulnerable person to suffer physical or emotional distress; or
(3) Knowingly acts or knowingly fails to act in a manner which results in a substantial risk to the life, body or health of an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person.

Fun Peeps needs to be taken away from meetup effective immediatelye
If you see these 2 people run they are the abusers
When I joined everything was fine, Joined Fun Peeps Chris and Denise Jones who are leaders went around the room several events with their phones to ruin my reputation that I can't repair at this time that group alone Bullied me to death. If you live in St. Louis, MO don't join Fun peeps they will destroy your reputation. Right now I am isolating myself because of all that groups abuse
Scamming and charging for services that their saying can be charged in 24 hours if no cancelation. I used it n within the hour was charged 4 different fees@50$ I canceled it soon as that 24 hour turned in the moment I used card. They should have repercussions or be shut down. Nothing good from the short time.I was raped for their greed, overall no one should use this phishing site due to privacy reasons I can't show u the right way so please let me warn others
Do not put your credit card in there - you will not be able to delete the credit card. If any group decides to start charging fees, you will be charged and then the finger pointing begins. Meetup will not delete the card also, although they say they will remove it from the processor strip. Don't believe them. It is still there and will be charge. The only way out is to have them delete your whole account which will take a while. The organizers of the group will say they have no control of the charges to contact meetup and meetup says to contact the organizers. A real scam
Now that you have introduced event chat, we don't need a comment section. I am an organiser and spend so much time flipping between the two and then going into DM's! For goodness sake make your mind up. Also when I wish to edit an event this is extremely hard to do and wasn't before the changes were made. Not exactly an improvement as soon as I'm concerned and needs adjustment now!
Organizer for 13 years. My experience lately, is meetup will not even bother to reply when there is a function problem. I have also been hacked through meetup. It has really gone downhill, and they disable functions, then ask you to pay extra.
Specifically, the hiking and beach volleyball meet ups have been enjoyable. Avoid the Salsa and other dance classes-way to serious. I like to dance for fun, and many that attend the classes are regulars, so you pay the cover, and watch the strut, and learning nothing. Received a kickball invitation, only to be ignored or avoided when requesting basic information on joining a team.
I don't know what happened. I'm an organizer for a group with almost 500 people, have to pay them $200/year, and I don't get any notifications! Not by email or push notification. The programmers have completely tanked this site. There are so many glitches, the UI is abominable. We have resorted to building a website specifically for our group.
They will charge you for nothing, then the support will tell you it's ok and deny any refund... It's such a scam website, you better avoid it.

I looked to meetup to get out and meet new people, do different things etc. It's been over a year someone took over Meetup. I can't see meetups outside my groups. If I do a search by location (NY), I get meetups from all over America. Everyone I talk to about this agrees: Meetup sucks. Bring back the previous managers. They ran it effectively. I find it sad because Meetup was my go-to place to get out and do something different. Not anymore. SAD.
Meetup keeps taking organizer tools so you'll have to pay for the Meetup Pro App! I'll move to another site before I pay them more money!
The third owners of this website are compensating for sales losses...in the most greedy way.
They invest in PR that first purports you only pay $12.71 for a basic tier charge then when getting to the actual site it says $17 and some change.
Then, when it comes to check out, you've paid $23 without even getting a free trial.
Lastly, I gave in and signed up for basic and decided to cancel after only thirty minutes.
There is NO refund option at the time of this post.
And look out for thee ludicrous "you must step down as organizer" stipulation to further distract you from "officially" divorcing your $#*! from these creep site owners.
I'm out $23 for having a membership that lasted only 30 minutes.
I don't have time to snapshot the website lingo, but I strongly encourage you to upload any absolutely greedy entrapment this site exercises.
Because of the networking disposition of Facebook groups, you get significantly more value than this dump and although they're siphoning all of your face data for Meta AI, it's free.

Zoom business info/entrepreneurship classes are truly excellent, taught by various experts each week. 100% Free, last an hour, with a presentation and a Q&A. Ability to network at the same time with those around the US & other countries as well.
Yoga/meditation classes via Zoom are sometimes 100% free and other times bait & switch $$$. Free ones thru Dignity Health are outstanding with a top certified instructor.
Meetup org does NOT get involved when there Organizers try to scam members in any way. Some Meetups are presented as social groups or info classes and in reality are attached to high pressure MLM or cults. Beware.
Meetup org also won't get involved if there's any illegal activity. Only tell you to call your local LE. Sad as this ruins Meetup overall rep. Meetup groups have even been banned from venues for wrongful actions.
In my opinion Meetup simply SUCKS. In my opinion they don't care about anyone either. I wish the State Attorney General would investigate Meetup's practices and find enough evidence to indict those who own and/or run the LLP. I believe they are incorporated in the State of Delaware but any States' Attorney General's Office could take them on, and I wish they would. Just my opinion though.
I joined a group on meetup in April 2021 called Hiking Friends & Fun located in Flower Mound, TX. I attended at least 70 events with the group. I became personally involved with the organizer who had only recently become the organizer ten months prior. Whenever he decided to end our "dating/using", I attempted no further contact with him. I continued attending the hikes for another month as usual. After attending a hike on Sat 01/14/23 I received an email that I was removed from the group. In the meantime there was hearsay from a mutual friend of ours which was negative. I never attempted to contact the organizer after we were involved. I left it alone. I attempted to contact the organizers of the group for an explanation & the main organizer who is Ravi had blocked me on meetup. The co organizer who I had attended hikes with several times was very short with me claiming he was not aware & never offered to find out or anything. There was allegedly a post on social media about the organizer which I was never privy to. The organizer & other members (personal friends of his) slandered me after I was removed from the group & attempted to get me kicked off of meetup simply for not wanting me in other shared groups. I am still thinking of filing legal claims against this organizer.
"You can check out any time you like. But you can never leave"... I registered a group on MeetUp to run some informal evening meetings with our community but it never really got off the ground. It's expensive... there's no "free" option and if you cancel their subscription, they'll email everyone in the group and tell them you've stopped paying and ask them to take over and pay for the group. You can't just close the group. Avoid at all costs.
Meetup.com will tale your money as "Meetup Organizer" then approve your groups and then without notice once you have invested time inspiring members to join your groups and register for its events them disable your account for "spam" -- and they have no formal appeal process.
They don't bother with warnings or temporary measures like Facebook.

I have been a member since 2014. See photo 'I have not joined any group' unbelievable! Why request to join!? I have booked for lots of outings, but not coming up on iPhone. Meetup app use to work on iPhone not any more. Delete and try to install new app. Didn't load. Still working on Computer & iPad. Not happy with the way of uploading photos to our Sydney Photo fun website. The sequence is different on computer and iPad. When you upload first your photos they end up much further up and different sequence when to find them on iPad. Very confusing. Often very slow to get into website to watch uploaded photos. Too time consuming! Not happy at all at the moment with the whole website situation!
This is a really easy way to make friends and meet new people because you know you already have something in common with them. I don't mind pitching in a little bit to keep the groups going, but hope it doesn't get too out of hand. I mean, FB allows Groups for free.
When you're a transplant and often in some states many people are and if you don't have children it's difficult to meet people, I've been doing it a little over a year and met many people but 3 people that I can call outside of meetup and do things with it's a great way to meet people often hit or miss but never had a bad experience
I organize two meetup groups myself, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to find any link anywhere to even contact meetup for help, it is so extremely frustrating! Shame on them for selling their subscriptions but never providing any help at all!
Tip for consumers:
Customer Service is nonexistent which is extremely frustrating.
I've been trying to delete my account which appears impossible because it keeps coming back asking me to designate other organizers. I've sent an email to which I receive canned responses but no one to contact directly. There is no number to speak to anyone. This is so incredibly frustrating. If you select "Deactivate Account" it makes you give someone else your group. Any suggestions?
I wouldn't run a group on this site now even if it were free it is so crap. A million and one tech issues and no customer service you just spend weeks talking to people who would be better off pretending they are bots than admitting they are real people which I am still not sure if they are. If they are they must be purposefully trying to sabotage people from complaining as no one can be THAT stupid. Each online only "customer service" representative is more gormless than the last and they have less access to the Meet up site than even you do making them completely pointless. Even after a month of dealing with them your issue will be nowhere near resolved and they will be asking you the most stupid questions and making you jump through hoops. Avoid at all costs
For many months now, I have had nothing but headaches trying to get their new Stripe payout system to work. All they do is send me links to their stupid unhelpful non relevant support articles. I see money sitting in my stripe account and cannot get it to my bank account. Days go by before anyone responds to an email. How can a company charge $180 a year to use their service with zero support behind it. Completely fed up with this company. Very disappointing.
Most of my experience with meetup groups has been good. I admit that I have not joined very many, but I have met some wonderful people and we have shared some fun experiences. Beware of some power-hungry organizers. You should be picky about the groups you join.
Find Meetups so you can do more of what matters to you. Or create your own group and meet people near you who share your interests.
