If you pay to get the job then it is scam. Period. It is 100% not worth it. And eventually you would be able to pass some tests for "free" on Freelancer.com.
Just remember that Freelancer.com is always on the Buyer side, never think that Freelancer.com will be on your side in dispute.
1. Only start work after you RECEIVED and WITHDRAW(!!!) 20%-50% deposit in advance.
2. Deliver the job ONLY after you RECEIVED FULL PAYMENT.
Follow this simple rulse and if you get lucky you can thrive on Freelancer.com.

Tests are helpful but no matter you failed or passed that exam, you will be charged 5$ each time you take a test :)

Absolutely not worth it to pay for tests. Another part of the scammy nature of this site.

As per the reputation of the website I don't think it's worth to plant in any of your hard earned money for the tests. People who have been giving the tests and taking the projects aren't getting any money though. You can read reviews about the same on this website. Freelancer have lost the trust of it's people who are on this website to make their living.

Sorry Varun, I was invited by sitejabber to enter this conversation.......I cant answer your question, but I woul d like to pose another.
You wanted a logo designed for a new company...yet you went looking for a cheap product...Why? Surely your new logo and company is worth more than $25.00! I cannot believe how many people are attempting to turn professionals into "sweatshop workers".

You can always try it, but I have to agree with Andy; most employers look more at the work you can deliver for the best price.
You can also take into account what Lydia and Sam said. You do have people with good experiences as well so you can always try and see how it works for you. However, I would advise not to keep a large sum of money in your freelancer account. Keep exactly what you need each time. Withdraw what you earn immediately after you get paid!

The only 2 certifications that matter and the 2 you can take for free: English, and Freelancer rules. As for payment, I never leave a card or payment method actively on file with freelancer, I only add it to actually use it and then remove it (that way they can't auto debit items).

any bank can take money back as paypal do not return for services., in 180 days from payment. so problem is that most people do not know about that,. if you are scammed as on freelancer the most , you have a right to go to the bank and ask for the money to be returned to you as you are scammed . if not ok .

There's been a few issues raised with freelancer taking fess that you are not aware of although I assume you'll be covered by your bank for any fraudulent activity. Just on the tests side of things, I'm 90% certain that the recruiters on the site don't even look at what certificates you have on your profile. They just look for whoever will do the job cheapest...
