Here’s what consumers have asked with answers from Etsy staff and previous consumers.
Etsy is a Marketplace like Ebay or Amazon made up of different sellers. Each seller runs his own business. Etsy simply offers a Marketplace for the seller to open a shop.
If you want to return something be positive. Don't complain but request if you can exchange or please return and you will buy some other time.
I was a seller on Etsy for approx. 2-3 years. I sell antique jewelry. Etsy has no US customer service phone number. I called the phone number listed but waited 17 minutes with no answer. You can email them but good luck on getting any response. Etsy overcharged me on seller fees. Etsy holds all money paid to a seller for 3-5 working days. They make money on our money. I left Etsy about a year ago and am very happy that I left. There are many small home crafty people selling on Etsy. I am a large antique jewelry dealer. I now sell at shows and on Ruby Lane. Ruby Lane is a wonderful seller and buyer site. I know that there are some excellent honest sellers on Etsy. But, there are also some dishonest sellers who will take your money, etc. Be very careful. Etsy WILL NOT stand behind either buyer or seller so you are on your own. Good luck.
Good luck! Wrong answer above. Etsy is a US company based in Booklyn, NY. No phone number. You're best bet is to go to this link. But that's no guarantee that they will get back to. They mostly blow you off. https://www.etsy.com/help/contact?ref=help_contact
You are lucky if they respond. Etsy are the worst customer support of any web platform. They will suspend you without warning and you could be in the streets by the click of a mouse. Ebay and arfire they will warn you multiple times if you violate anything. Not etsy. And they dont care of how good of a seller you are. One or two violations and yhou are a gone for good. Don't support them. They became the most arrogant platform there is.
Even if you use the case system the support team will choose the side of the vendor in any claim trust me I was a customer for 10 years and spent over 10k using this site... but no more It just takes one bad transaction and I head for the hills
Look at sellers terms of service and policies. It varies... some sellers will allow returns; some won't. Some require you pay return shipping; others don't. Some sellers have a time window too and won't accept the return after a certain number of days has passed. Send the seller of that specific shop a quick message explaining your concerns and questions that way you have evidence after purchasing
The following is directly from Etsy: This letter sets forth Etsy’s position regarding the complaint dated December 9,2015 against Etsy, Inc. (“Etsy”). Etsy’s service, Etsy.com, is a marketplace where people around the world connect to buy and sell unique goods. To use the site, each individual must agree to Etsy’s Terms of Use and other site policies. Jan Baskins (the “Customer”) is an Etsy member and agreed with Etsy’s Terms of Use. 1. Etsy’s Terms of Use include our Buyer Policy, which states, “Etsy provides a venue for buyers to find, learn about, and enter into transactions with sellers around the world. It is important to note, however, that Etsy is not a part of that transaction. By shopping on Etsy, you understand that: You are not buying directly from Etsy, but from one of the many talented sellers on Etsy; 2. Etsy does not pre-screen sellers and therefore does not guarantee or endorse any items sold on Etsy or any content posted by sellers (such as photographs or language used in listings or shop policies); and 3. Each seller on Etsy accepts different payment methods and has their own processing times, shipping methods, and shop policies.”
