I was not advised that my subscription was due for renewal, and the money has been taken already. I wish to cancel and claim a refund of the money taken from my account

Open a dispute on PayPal or cancel the transfer through your bank, you will have your money back. Don't accept any partial refund.

In the same situation exactly. Hoping the bank can help. I contacted Busuu within minutes of them taking the money but they said not policy to issue refunds! So unfair!

I've noticed that with busuu as with many subscriptions, the renewal is automatic. I guess somewhere in the small print there must be some type of disclosure to that effect.
What i just learned /realized is whenever taking out a subscription online, make note of how you did it. Did you use itunes, google play or the website itself. Wherever you made the subscription, go back there to cancel right away before you forget.
The current subscription that you just paid for will remain valid, but it won't renew the following year when you've forgotten about it. I just auto-renewed duolingo because i'd forgotten about it. So now i've cancelled memrise and busuu and the washington post. My guess is that each one will likely send out an email when the cancellation date approaches, and i can make a renewal decision at that time.
