At midnight last night I decided that I really needed a shower spray that wouldn't smell like Windex / chemicals. Having read about Soap.com here, I went there to see what the fuss was about. I was able to order a better shower spray, and in order to get free shipping, I ordered a couple other items (vitamins and lotion). The process was quick, and when I woke up this morning I'd gotten a message from Soap letting me know that the items had shipped. Okay, I thought. I glanced at the shipper and saw it was a company called "Laser Ship". I've never heard of that and felt a little bit uneasy for a bit. However, the other reviews I'd read here allowed me to ignore that discomfort. I got home from work just now, and who should ring my doorbell? A Laser Ship delivery man with my Soap.com package. That literally took about 16 hours. Amazing.
I've yet to encounter a more disorganized company than Verizon. In anticipation of my move, I called Verizon to activate high speed internet. Everything appeared to be fine, but I received a couple calls subsequently with different agents confused about the status of my order (supposedly the guy in the apartment hadn't canceled, though he had a confirmation number and all). Once that was settled, I received my installation package early and was delighted to be able to get hooked up on the first day of the move. However, to my dismay, I could not get connected. I spent that first night waiting 2 hours for representatives who were again confused as to the status of my order. One agent told me I had a business account while the business rep told me that wasn't the case. It was pretty ridiculous. On my fifth phone call with Verizon I finally was able to get a very nice gentleman named Santosh who tried his darndest to get me up and online…but to no avail. Before all that, however, he informed me that the name on the account was not even close to that which I gave him (I have no other name!) and that my account shows up as being a business account (which I thought was cleared up the first night).
In short what should take place without hitches (the DSL jack had already been set up and everything was ready to go) actually is taking hours on the phone and lost time at work. I know everyone gets down on AT&T, but I'd choose AT&T over Verizon in a heartbeat.
Sadly, Verizon is the only choice we have out here in the Indiana wilderness. We have also had some rather spotty service from them. After they switched our service to Frontier, the service became even spottier. I believe Frontier is a subsidiary of Verizon.
arg, i'm sorry you don't have other options though i'm not others are any better... though i didn't have any issues with comcast when i lived in seattle (it was pretty expensive though!)
Unfortunately (?) we do not have access to cable services. They claim that it is too expensive to run lines out here. My former employer had a satellite service which was fast, but cost US $1400.00 per month on his horse farm. I am captive to the "EVIL" Verizon, who keeps trying to increase my rates while providing marginal service. At least my rural environs are gorgeous.
$1400 a month! that's incredible.
For a long time Mr Haas had a 'money is no object" attitude. He drove a Hummer H-1 ($130,000.00) back and forth to work for the last 2 years of the life of our now defunct company. The drive from Geist is around 65-70 miles and the damned truck got about 6 MPG. He lost the horse farm (near our house) in his bankruptcy. I only lost my Job. While his bankruptcy was pending, the bank was paying him $15000.00 per week while most of us were not getting squat.
BTW, I worked there for 17 years before the failure and subsequent bankruptcy.
I totally agree! They promise one thing then deliver another....their cell phone service SUCKS! I pay extra for the wireless hotspot, and it NEVER works. Great review!!!
I switched back to T-Mobile from Verizon recently, offered me more for less than i was paying Verizon
To me, Verizon is pretty close to being the Anti-Christ's underling. I am almost certain that they use a "LAIR" as opposed to an office building.
At Verizon's evil "LAIR" (<---air quotes) , everything is on fire but nothing actually burns because it is actually located in hell which is located someplace in New Jersey, probably Hoboken.
I had to resort to the Better Business Bureau and years later, my issues with them are still not resolved.
A quick Google search will show that there is not much love out there for this laughable company.
Just once, I would like to show up on their corporate lawn (assuming it too is not on fire because it is hell) with every customer they had pissed off, all with crosses and a bible shouting "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!"...
I have to agree with you. When they sold us North Westerners to Frontier (in the TV,Internet,Phone department) I thought I would improve but they are just as bad.
Tran, They messed up my online billing terrible just 2 months ago. The reps have no idea of whats going on they all tell you different things, Nobody is on the same page. I did finally get a supervisor to fix the problem, but what a triiiiiiiip
I discovered the Improvd line from a MyHabit sale, and it was love at first viewing. Different shades of grays, blacks, and darker hues of colors...soft cotton or jersey fabrics blended with mesh...draping, cowl necks, subtle asymmetry...slightly avant-garde...most importantly patternless and simple. All elements that I value in my clothes. I bought a couple pieces from the MyHabit sale but continue to monitor for deals on their stuff through the flash sale sites and places like Nordstrom and Saks Fifth.
I finally went ahead and ordered from MyHabit. We'll see if the items actually fit...
what'd you get, what'd you get? i've got a couple things on my wishlist - one of them is a certain kind of ring. some of the jewelry on myhabit looks good but i'm not sure how it'll feel in person. anyway, link me, link me!
Pour la victoire irina platforms. I'm praying the 6 will fit lol
roh roh... you're normally a 5, 5.5, aren't you? girl...that's an impulse buy if i've ever heard one.
Oooh, I saw those shoes on MyHabit. They're cute! I'm trying to just bite my lip and just window shop lately though *cries*
haha, bess. it's truly a curse to be a woman.
alex p - how'd the shoes work??
Hi TN. I think this review belongs on the myhabit.com website & not here on improvd.com website. I don't recommend ordering things directly from the improvd.com website- their shipping is incredibly slow & their customer service is awful. I agree the clothes are cute though.
Okay, I'll admit - a mall salesperson managed to weasel her way into a conversation with me about my make-up preferences. At the time I was going au natural with an Origins cream. It was decent but didn't provide the best foundation (not make-upy enough). Before that was another Origins foundation that was a bit too make-upy. The Bella Terra Cosmetics associate, in a matter of minutes, managed to convince me that their mineral foundation would be the Goldilocks just-right of make-up for me. I'm kind of an impulse buyer, for sure, but even my sister, a make-up and beauty guru, admitted that the foundation and blush looked great on my skin. It's a bit pricy, especially as compared to Bare Minerals (twice as expensive), but I've also tried Bare Minerals and didn't think it felt as good as Bella Terra. I might go back and see how I feel about it though, just to save that extra $35.
I'm at the website now... Those models on the front page have gorgeous makeup on *____* Can I just become a millionaire now so I can get all the makeup I want? Haha
ha. this stuff is twice as expensive as bare minerals, and i'm sure they produce the same results.
Well, I'm not a big fan of bare minerals, so it might just be worth the money... But I also think even some cheaper brands are better than bare minerals... But I think finding a foundation shade that exactly matches/looks great on you is something worth investing the money in!
Smashbox is probably my favorite line of cosmetics right now. I use their eye shadows, eyebrow tech (which is something I can't do without), lipsticks and lip liners / pencils. The shadow trios are a great combo and allows me to apply without needing to think about which colors go best together. The products for the lips go on smoothly and provide moisture at the same time. I haven't felt the need to change anything up thus far. I only wish their stuff would last a little longer during the day so that I wouldn't have to retouch. However, that might be expecting for a miracle.
I love this site as well-great makeup and service
I love SmashBox! Their makeup is like heaven but I cheat on them with Mac lol.
It's supposed to be 98 degrees in NYC, and the apartment in which I'm staying for the month has no air conditioner. Rather than stay inside and pass out from heat exhaustion, I've taken my studies to the streets. But I couldn't possibly read without wifi - how else would I be able to distract myself from the riveting text related to social justice and educational access? Finding a place that allows me to sit all day while spending little money is difficult. OpenWifiNYC lists places around the city with wifi, the strength of it and power outlets that are available. Unfortunately it's just a list without any ability for me to find a place by neighborhood. It doesn't actually have a very long list either, and this couldn't be a comprehensive directory of all the wifi hotspots in the city. However, kudos to them for the attempt.
Hi. I noticed that openwifinyc.com has a list sortable by neighborhood. It also says the type of spot (i.e. library, cafe, park, etc.) Maybe it's new since you last used the site. Good luck with the heat!
oh my goodness. i don't think it's new, i think i was just not observant enough... thank you!!!!
i needed that as i just moved (to a place with A/C, at that!) and am desperate to find a spot in the UWS that's not a starbucks.
I work on the road, T Mobile, my cell carrier, has a hotspot app that is pretty consistent in delivering decent wifi locations. I am rarely more than ten minutes tops from an open hookup. Even if you don't have T Mobile your cell carrier have a similar resource to lacate good locations.
Umm...locate. Ha!
i'm glad you didn't say "lactate", to be honest.
This is a pretty neat site that will allow you to see if the name of a domain is still up for grabs with a .com, .net, .biz, .org, or .us. When you start typing in the name, the results start to appear, and blue means the site is up for grabs. When you mouse over the extension, you're given various choices of hosts and prices. Really nicely done!
I think Toms shoes are a staple for any girl's shoe collection. They're cute, casual (great for just putting on to go to the store or to get laundry), affordable, comfortable and for a good cause. Toms donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair it sells. Something to keep in mind is that the sizes are off. I'm normally between 5.5 or 6, and in Toms, I wear a 5. (No socks required)
You have small feet too then...it's a pain, a lot of the nicest shoes start at size 6 =(
except european shoes do come smaller. i got a pair of repetto shoes at openingceremony recently (last chance) and they were tiiiiny.
I must be cursed, even some european brands I've tried are a tad too large. Are repettos "true to size"? So if you're 5.5 in EU and say 5 in US, you can depend on buying 5.5 consistently? The next time one of those sample sales feature Repetto, I might just jump...
try them in in the store first. i'm 5.5 in U.S. (i'm only 5 in toms). with this repettos pair, 36 fits, a tad bit snug but i'm counting on stretch.
Well the next time I'm in nyc....dot dot dot : ) j/k
Opening Ceremony is a fantastic store in NYC - I was just there today and found myself an amazing pair of Repetto derby booties/shoes for 1/2 the original price. HOWEVER, that being said, the website looks awful in comparison. It looks totally unreliable, and the thousand plus sale items look too good to be true. However, I can vouch for the fact that, while the clothes are probably more eclectic than most might be inclined to wear, there are some gems in there. I certainly wouldn't pay $650 for a designer sweater, but after second or third markdown, it's more reasonable (not saying it's still a reasonable purchase, just MORE reasonable - for shoes though, it's great).
Ah yes, Repetto! I've been eyeing some flats that on sale, I can only find in size 6 or larger and are pushing $200.
when shoes are as comfortable as they are, i'll wear them forever. so if i factor in the life of the shoe with the cost, it's well worth-it, as opposed to the pairs that wear out quickly and kill my feet. i'm waiting for a pair of Cydwoq sandals too - but ideally on sale because they're pushing a couple hundred too. a friend of mine got a pair, and they look / feel great. http://cydwoq.com/womens/cydwoq-line/cydwoq-sandals/fence.html
That is true...I suppose replacing the same kind of shoe 3-4 times a year ends up costing about the same as a nice pair. Although I don't take care of my shoes well and wear inappropriate flats to say go hiking..
Oh hey size 5, I'm already sold.
that's not only bad for your shoes but also bad for your feet! don't do that.
the cydwoqs are really much nicer when you put them on, and there's a nice worn look to them that makes it seem like "heeeey someone just bought a $300 pair of shoes now." it's more like, "what? those were $300? that's crazy" but wait until theirs falls apart on them while they're hiking.
i mean "doesn't make it seem like"
Are there any decent looking hiking shoes? Not that I care, but I'm just worried about clunkyness. I have bad equilibrium. You're one of those sporty girls: advice?
I'll have to check those out in person sometime!
i'm no sporty girl! i only run but other than that, i'm a mess. for hiking, i have a friend who swears by clarks and privos. but i still don't find the styles appealing. i thought the cydwoq boots were pretty cute...
i always wonder if i can pull off that "hiking boots with socks barely showing but noticeably there, mid-thigh canvas shorts that are rolled up a bit, tank top tucked in with braided belt and long-sleeve lumberjack button-up over it" look. i kind of like it on some girls but probably not on short, small footed asian girls such as ourselves.
I've had a pair or two of normal Clarks shoes and they're just not that comfortable...I had to pawn them off on ebay for really cheap. So, never again.
The boots ARE cute. But alas, <= poor
Yeah, I'm going to agree with your conclusion there. My boss tells me in Taiwan though, girls go hiking on mountains with platform heels and dressy outfits - so hey...
i actually have a pair of clarks artisan pumps, and they're the most comfortable ones i've tried on... but style-wise, i'd only wear them to work probably.
i figure you need how many boots as a woman? knee or thigh high black ones? cowboy boots? rainboots and hiking boots? anything else?
i guess we need to go to taiwan.
i'd say - resist buying from forever 21, rampage or wet seal (i'm kidding!!) for a few months and voila, you've got a pair of niiice boots.
you forgot deb! Yes, I'm working on a plan to get a really nice pair of nude pumps, I was thinking either cole haan or stuart weitzman (platswoon?) but I'm not sure if those are actually THAT comfortable (for platforms) anyway...
Any advice on such things?
i actually bought an amazing-looking pair of stuart weitzmans a couple months ago. i wore them in the house for a day but they never felt comfortable and were returned. cole haan i've never tried... nude pumps, link me to a pair you like!
http://www.zappos.com/cole-haan-air-violet-pump-90
They come in other colours too. They're very basic, but I'm hoping they'll be semi comfortable. The air violet pump 60 has a lower heel.
whoa, i had no idea cole haans were that expensive. i always thought of it as like a bit higher end nine west. i guess i was wrong. but that's the kind of classic pump you'd wear for a while, i think, so it's worth it. i'm sure you could find a pair in stores to try on?
Not where I live lol! Not easily at least that I know of, but it's on my checklist of "stuff to try on" when I go somewhere that has the bulk of those items available...easily
I suppose I could just zappos it and chance the fit, but I don't want to have to keep charging and refunding $200 items...
seriously? no department stores??
Oh there are, but Macy's is the best available option and the best is maybe only Circa Joan and David which are OK but they never carry < 6's. I've seen BCBG but not in the styles I want, the other brands are just meh - naturalizer, bandolino, etc
Shadow G. beat me to reviewing this site, but I thought I should give it some props. Brainpop, though it comes with a heavy pricetag, is a jewel for any teacher. Brainpop has an immense collection of short educational videos (cartoon style, narrated by Tim and Moby (a robot)) ranging from science to math to social studies to language. I've been able to find more than 1 video on any topic in which I'm focusing in my classroom. The videos come with a pre-tests/practice quizzes and final quizzes, in order to evaluate what the students have been able to get from the videos. I always supplement these videos with interactive / hands-on lessons. The only downside to Brainpop is that it's fairly expensive, though there are lots of free videos available. If purchased for a school, it's a drop in the bucket. Brainpop is also available in Spanish!
I'm not exactly a hypochondriac but I am a bit of a worrywart. So whenever I feel under the weather, you can bet that I'll be googling the symptoms while contemplating my life with [whatever life-threatening illness you can think of]. WebMD has been okay, but I don't find that it really puts me at ease. If anything, it makes me even more paranoid. Freemd.com is a pretty new website, I *think*, that allows you to interact with it to enter your symptoms and have the program spit out what it thinks might be wrong and what your options are in dealing with it. There are a handful of check-ups, also, that allow you to answer questions and get the doctor's analysis of whether or not you have said condition and what you should do about it (for example, see a doctor or go to an emergency room immediately). The website is really pretty nicely designed, easy to follow and has a multi-sensory element of a corresponding video of the doctor in charge.
Hey T, welcome to the aging process (just kidding) :-) At my age if I did that the way I feel most days, I'd spend my life on the computer ;-(
LOL. I KNOW, it feels awful. It's just a fight against time at this point.
T (and everyone) - Medical websites are a double-edged sword. They provide basic information...but rarely information that i would ACT on without getting a real Dr's, face to face diagnosis. Same with medical blogs...these are scary - when someone writes "I took that medication and my arm fell off" - what am I supposed to do with that piece of info? Be careful
That is the best part about this website, it doesn't aim to diagnose, but instead offers triage advice on how urgently one needs medical care. First time I ever saw a site that did this!!!
Tran, Great find as much as I get sick I can always use a site that evaluates symptoms. Cool site, Lorraine W.
I agree - I think the doctor's pretty clear in this that he's not out to diagnose. I did a check-up for migraines - it goes through each of the symptoms and then gives a clear course of potential resources.
Most medical sites state that the site is for informational purposes only and not to be used in place of a doctor but it is nice to be able to become informed and arm yourself with some knowledge so you can question your doctor about any concerns you may have.
Thanks. I've been looking for a better than WebMed site. I'll check it out.
This is a copy / paste job from theoutnet.com: I'm not a Christian Louboutin kind of girl but I thought I'd write this review to let it be known that, according to the Louboutin people, this is the only authorized site that can sell Christian Louboutin shoes at outlet prices. In taking a look at the site (and it has other designers also), I was pleasantly surprised by the prices - though still out of my league, they weren't too far off from the prices of Chinese replica sites that will scam the crap out of you. However, the thing is that it is indeed an outlet center, meaning that you might not find items in your size, but if you check often enough, I'm sure you could find some pretty good deals.
i also would love to be able to afford a pair of louboutins. the red bottoms are so sheek! thanks for this review. i bookmarked it for the day that i've saved enough to justify a pair hehe!!
T, would you try to message me through the "send message" feature...Thanks
I love TheOutnet - and have used it many times. It carries last seasons stock - at great reductions. Every week they run a promotion with an extra discount - usually an extra 20-30% off a particular category - so some great bargains to be had. As TN says you can't always find everything in your size but they get news stock in several times a week and if you sign up to their newsletter and go straight to the website when you get the newsletter you can aim to be first in the queue. Also worth pointing out they provide great pics of the items they stock and they provide very helpful size and fit info.
really? another website with cool images? is this because we no longer read and just like to look at pretty pictures? there's weheartit.com and imgfave. now there's piccsy...though i'm not sure who came first. in any case, aren't we filled to the brim with sardonic or melancholic images and texts of cats in uncompromising situations (though i have to say i still like that) and people feeling lonely enough that their very existence makes you want to sleep for days? after a while of looking at this stuff, my brain feels kind of dead.
clap clap clap. I'm tired of cute cats images!
Id have to agree..these sites are good for looking at a images for a specific event a friend or relative has shared. I NEVER just openly browse for images...because they lose their impact when you have seen 100 juts like them. This a little sad. I read the other day that the iPhone 4 is the # 1 camera used by Flickr members now :(
AirBnB is great in theory - rent from or rent out your apartment to travelers who need a couple days to a couple weeks of housing in a city. The site also looks fantastic, especially as compared to Couchsurfing, which feels like a dirty forum. You find the place you want to book (making sure the host looks like s/he's not going to murder you, selecting the accommodations that are to your liking, etc.) and then you wait for the other person to respond to your request. Your credit card isn't charged until after the fact.
However, what you end up getting is this - the people who are more likely to respond to you are charging up the wazoo for their place. One woman wanted $3400 for the month that I was looking to stay in NYC. Then there are specifications like you have to stay a month or you can't stay longer than 5 days, so it gets tedious dealing with their little conditions. The people that you are interested in won't respond to you at all. Terribly annoying.
I have had them well there banner on a few of my sites for a few months now. Still waiting to make some cash...lol
Yo know T N. A friend of mine said almost the same thing to me about Airbnb, she said she was looking for an apartment to stay for like 2weeks and the woman asked her to pay almost $2500 and it was not like her apartment was all that. I have never personally used that website but I doubt if I ever would. I mean you can't be too careful, you don't know you are letting into your own private home.
As I attempt to find myself some housing in New York City, I'm making several important discoveries in the internet world. BadNYCApartments is one of them - maps of apartments to steer clear of for whatever reason, whether it's bad landlords, noisy neighbors or lack of adequate escape routes. Kind of a SiteJabber for apartments in NYC, if you will. Nice!
Okay, I'm going to have to kind of disagree with some folks about Endless. Too many shoes (well that's not really the complaint but it kind of is)... and a kind of disorganized customer service section going on there. A few weeks ago (or was it months) I ordered a pair of BCBGs (okay, I have to hand it to them, they have more BCBGs than Zappos and DSW combined, and I like that and hate it at the same time - why you gotta be enticing me like that?) and was happy with them. However, to my surprise, I found a double charge on my account. I got in touch with customer service, and it was almost nightmarish how poorly they handled the situation. In the end, I was able to prove that I didn't buy the same pair twice (I mean, yes, it's true I do that often when I like a pair, but that's AFTER I've had some time with it) and got the refund. Still, not much fun... doesn't necessarily mean I won't go back though....
If you like to look at models (I'm not saying I do) (I kind of do), then Intensifyit.eu is the blog to do it. Filled with gorgeous black & white photos of emaciated models, you could spend quite a bit of time admiring the lovely lines and outfits. Most of the photos, I believe, have been photoshopped to be B&W by the blogger who runs the show. She does a terrific job of turning what would otherwise be a dime-a-dozen fashion blog into a little piece of art.
I wish I could vote as "interesting site" -it is kinda artsy-I liked all of the quotes-they get you thinking :deep thoughts" LOL
This site is supposed to be a place for everyone to vote on 'things' - doesn't matter what it is. It's way too broad, and the site is poorly designed...not to mention that when I visited it, some terrible looking pop-up appeared that scared the buhjeebers out of me, making me run for dear life to scan my computer for nasty viruses.
I'm pretty sure this is NOT the official Bella Terra Make-up website. The official one would be http://www.bellaterracosmetics.com/
I looked at this website as a way to get ideas for an apartment that's less than 300 square feet. Unfortunately it doesn't help so much with that - rather it's about making over apartments - turning nice ones into NoICE ones (not sure how to spell that the way I'm saying it). Still pretty addicting and small ideas can be taken from it here and there...

Abbey R. Oh yours took 16 hours? Lucky you! I actually got mine in less than 2 days, I would say in a day but it was more than 24 hours. Have you tried out their e-coupon? You better do if you haven't because you get an immediate discount and I love how they have those buy one get one free deals! My only problem with Soap is that after your first order, you have to buy stuffs worth more than $39 to qualify for free shipping so I pay 4.99 for shipping which does not make sense
Lorraine W. Tran, That funny, Windex are you kidding? WOW, sorry to hear about this no one nobody wan't to smell like glass cleaner. This site seams to have good deals. I am doing a review today on a site that I think you will love. Check it out
Jeanette L. I've never tried this site but after reading this review, I might just go check it out!
