About Me

When I'm not strolling around the internet (and I'm not working) I'm generally planning my next trip/adventure.

My go to site on the web when I need a good laugh. Be careful though, if you're drinking something odds are good it's going to shoot out your nose at some point.

I use Flickr all the time and have spent the $ to be a "pro" user. For the most part think it's a great service. The only reason I don't "love" it is I find the Organize section to be a bit cumbersome. There's always a bit of a learning curve when I go there to do mass editing/tagging/etc.

I wouldn't buy a camera without looking at this site first. I've purchased 3 or 4 after reviewing the information they provide. My favorite feature is the set of photos they take for each camera, makes it so easy to compare when you're looking for specifics, e.g. macro.

  • Tripadvisor

TripAdvisor is fabulous. I used it to decide on all my hotels for a Yucatan trip. Also found fabulous reviews and deals for hotels in Helsinki and Moscow. Am in the process of planning a trip to Africa and have connected with a great travel company solely because of the owners posts/replies to others seeking advice.

I don't travel anywhere without checking out The Thorn Tree travel forum. Timely information from people on the ground wherever I'm planning to travel. Can get some great advice if you have questions as well although you sometimes have to wade through the comments from people who think "if you're not doing it on your own you're not cool."

  • eBags

I purchased several bags from them. They arrived quickly and are exactly as described. I've found their prices to be a little higher than some other sites, otherwise I'd give them a "love it" rating.

  • CNET

Whenever I'm looking for software or reviews of electronics cnet.com is the first place I go. I trust their information and they've yet to let me down.

  • LL Bean

The rest of the service industry could learn a thing or two from LL Bean. To say they stand behind their products is an understatement. I bought a waterproof jacket from them and when it started to not be so waterproof, over a year later, they replaced it no questions asked. They stand behind their products for the life of the product - hard to beat that sort of guarantee.

  • Mamapedia

I have quite a few friends who have had babies recently, or are having them soon. I haven't bought anything for myself from Mamapedia but I've forwarded lots of great deals to friends and have bought a few deals to use for baby shower gifts. If you're reproducing you should definitely get on their email list.

  • Groupon

I have found and benefited from some great deals via Groupon.

I "bought" the Amazon deal ($10 for $20 at Amazon) and never received a confirmation. When I'd go to look at my account it kept saying they'd process the charge within one day. They even have a note on their Help site dedicated specifically to the Amazon deal. Anyway, after a bunch of emails back and forth they say they can't find my account - nevermind I can login and see it just fine and have purchased many things from them - and for me to call. So I call and as I do so I login to my Living Social Account and gee, the Amazon purchase has disappeared. They tell me my credit card was declined - impossible since it has a zero balance - and that yesterday was the last day to resolve any issues. How convenient for them. If it was declined why wasn't I ever notified? And why, until yesterday was it showing up under Purchased Deals in my account? They gave me a $10 credit with Living Social but that doesn't get me $20 at Amazon now, does it?
