Great site for hiring just about anyone to do anything. I like their heavy lifting section to assist in getting rid of large pieces of furniture. I once just used craigslist for a junk removal service and got 2 small girls attempting to carry a couch out of my house. They couldn't do it alone so I had to help. I like how taskrabbit vets the service providers.
I think everyone who uses craigslist at one point in time has wondered why they haven't made it more web 2.0 and social. Their old model still works and is very easy to use, but that is of course opening the door for these new start ups to create their own version of craigslist. I tried zaarly out and it was very easy to use and intuitive. The only problem of course is lack of users. The small user base right now is great if you are a small business and have services or products to offer as you will receive many eyeballs for what you are selling. I truly hope this particular site catches on.
Each one, Teach one, was the mantra used in my medical training years ago and basically it meant that everyone has something to teach and everyone has something to learn. This company skillshare.com has taken that concept and is allowing everyone to become a teacher and a student. There have been other websites and companies with similar ideas throughout the years, but this one seems to have hit a home run with their efforts and understands how to motivate people to become either a teacher or a student. Now, I just need to decide if I want to learn to become a bartender or play Settlers of Catan first...
Taking a class and learning something new is typically a boring process and while many people have tried to make educational games in the past, very few companies have truly succeeded in this market. Wouldn't it be great to learn to learn a new skill by playing a game? codecademy.com is making learning how to code into a gaming experience and from the nearly 100K users they have signed up, they are doing a great job. If you are looking to learn javascript, I highly recommend checking it out. Makes me think of rosetta stone for the coding world.
Interesting concept where a laser which when turned to a very specific frequency can eliminate brown pigment in the eye and turn brown eyes to blue. It is similar in concept to laser hair removal, which also selectively eliminates tissue. Their website is still under development but you can watch a video of it here.

Interesting idea - BBC article on this at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15596885
Don't think I'd risk it myself, but I did see some people in Thailand wearing coloured contact lenses, so there must be a demand...
I heard they are going to price it at $5K, not sure if that is per eye though :P
If you are looking for some pumpkin carving ideas definitely be sure to check out this website and go to this link

This guy won on food network for his amazing pumpkin carvings
I ordered a sink from New Look Plumbing through amazon.com and needed to make a return. While I did have to pay for return shipping, they did refund my credit card and the return process went very smoothly. I commend them for having such great customer service and providing an expedited refund to my credit card. One of hallmarks of a great company is how they deal with returns and this company I feel did a remarkable job.
I have been following and using the zam network of sites for the past 10 years and they are a valuable resource for any MMO gamer. Their sites include Wowhead, Thottbot, and MMOUI. Each of their sites is a respectably run entity where they carefully monitor both spam and advertisements. Content is always original and the community in the forums is always helpful. If you are playing any of the MMOs out there including WOW or Rift you should check out this website and their network of sites.
Great site for basic information on the HPV test for women and explaining the relationship between HPV testing and PAP smears. Everyone should know about these types of tests and especially women who are sexually active and might be interested in the HPV vaccine. I would also recommend going to the CDC for information on guidelines on when to get the HPV test done. Links here

I recently read a review about Minecraft which you can get from minecraft.net. I had seen several people on sitejabber review Lego or block type of games and never really understood what the hype was all about. Here is a link to the IGN video: Minecraft: I don't get it. http://pc.ign.com/articles/116/1165491p1.html
If you ever played with legos in your childhood, you owe it to yourself to watch this video and see if it is worth a quick download to relive the lego days. Parents with children who play with lego should also take a look at the video and see if it might appeal to your children.
The best part seems to be that people can share their minecraft/lego creations with each other. This guy created a Call of Duty FPS in the minecraft world.

Great indie game that deserves a full heart for managing to amass such a following (700,000 facebook likes to date) in an era of big budget gaming.
the guy that created minecraft - dude, he charges $10 for the game, and now he's a probably almost millionaire. that's a lesson in keeping it simple.
It has been a long time since I built my own pc but I do remember it being significantly cheaper than buying online. Currently when you configure your system through a major company you are seemingly paying much more than if you just bought it off the shelf. This company is located around the corner from where I grew up and has a real address/phone etc which is rare these days for internet companies. I took a look at their prices and they were far below what is currently being sold at retail for the same specifications. If you are looking to buy a new computer, I would recommend seeing what your money will get you at a larger internet retailer such as Dell, gateway, sony, HP and then compare the specs to what you can get here. You might be able get some significant upgrades for not much more money. Often times upgrading a HD will cost you hundreds extra...here an upgrade to 1.5TB cost an additional $26 from what I saw...Just try finding that deal on other more commercial sites.
This website is like a search engine for voice over talent and it does attract some great voice over artists. You can hear samples of their work online and get quotes for projects fairly easily. If you are looking exclusively for voice over work, I think going to sites like this is better than some of the sites that have a combination of acting/voice overs.
I was doing a search for Zooey Deschanel and somehow came across Slidebomb.com. Very interesting way to share information around a given subject. You can compile throughout the web images, videos and links around a given topic and easily share it with others. Clearly designed to be viral I hope their efforts pay off and people start using this site.
anything that starts with "i was doing a search for zooey deschanel" is funny. why in the world would a person do that??
I was NOT doing a search for Zooey... and came across this review. It looks interesting for presentations but the examples are all a bit teenage geeky. I'd like to see a sample showing if they are going to go for business / academic presentations as well...
Going to give logitech big props and a full heart for their move to dominate the webcam/video conferencing market. Their Vid HD consumer service which is free and works with their inexpensive HD webcams or google TV really is quite impressive at their 720p resolution. The significantly more expensive offerings from other companies such as cisco can do 1080p, but I'm not sure that most will even notice it and not every one has a 1080p display (1920 x 1080) or a webcam that can support that resolution. The Vid HD service will work with other webcams that are not made by logitech too. They have a very simple interface and I think their partnership with googleTV should help them grow. Skype also has 720p as their "HD" version. I do wonder which company will be the first to offer true 1080p resolution for free. see lazy link below for more info
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/349/5788
I hadn't seen or heard of this one. Interesting. Logitech must be the most famous name in PC peripherals and their hardware is outstanding, so they've got a solid reputation, but is this their first foray into branding software alone?
I noted that although they have configured this to use more basic equipment, leaving room for business conferencing and traveling with a netbook, but without the HD resolution, the point is obviously to grab the consumer market and a specific section of it, the widescreen HD TV owning people who use them as monitors. If they can reach that market, I reckon they're on another winner for the brand.
It occurs to me that people will be able to see and hear their mothers-in-law live in glorious HD and several times life-sized, watching over them in their living rooms. And kids could have a giant Granny watching over them while they do their homework. So, there are some downsides to this one, too!
haha, but who wouldn't want a giant size granny watching over them. I will say the feeling of seeing someone life size is very different and makes you feel like they are there in the room with you. I am surprised the "adult" industry hasn't done more with "telepresence"...they usually are first adopters of these types of technology.
Anyone who remembers playing games on those floppy disks on a Commodore 64 will love the revival of this brand. I remember that commodore was the big rival of apple back in the day. Of course they include an emulator to play all of the old c64 games. If playing labyrinth doesn't bring back some memories then this is probably not the system for you...
labyrinth video for your viewing enjoyment.

I had been considering saving some money and cutting out cable tv (specifically comcast) and instead getting a subscription to netflix/hulu/amazon for my movie and tv shows. It was about a combination of cutting costs and being able to watch shows at work, while commuting, and even at starbucks. The deal changer was comcast releasing their xfinity streaming service that works on any pc and my ipad. Now, I can access HBO/MAX/Starz premium shows, network television and on demand movies all because I have a subscription to comcast...and I can access their content anywhere I have an internet connection. This means instead of cancelling comcast and going to the net for my media, I am considering upgrading my comcast and adding premium channels so I can take it on the go with me and probably will no longer be renting dvds. Nice move comcast. The only negative part is their site is still a little buggy especially on chrome, but I have faith they will soon fix those issues.
I ate at Nobu in vegas and the black cod miso was probably one of the most amazing dishes I have ever had a chance to taste. I did some research online on how to make it and came across this food blog. Vienna who writes this blog lets both her charisma and love of food show through and they have some great recipes including what I was looking for....black cod miso. I'm going to be waiting for her to start doing some video blogging so we can all watch her prepare some of these tasty dishes.
Miso is that Japanese soupy thingy right? Sounds yummy. Domo arigato *bows*
yeah, but combine miso, a ton of sugar (which I shouldn't be eating) and black cod and I swear it is best thing ever...
Good food blog. Thanks!
okay, imagining an australian guy bowing and saying "domo arigato" is the highlight over my evening. so do you actually make it with the sugar? or do you substitute that with something else.
I used half of the sugar the recipe called for but I think next time I am going to try it with a lychee/mango puree instead.
JetstreamHD is just the device I have been waiting for that allows you to view any media (movies, music, photos, etc) that you have stored on your hard drives at home to be view on your ipad anywhere you go. It connects to your router and then instantly finds the media. Instant access to your media without any upfront work is pretty much what we all want. I will admit I do not own this yet and it is still on pre order but the concept alone makes me give it a full heart and I will follow up with more details once I have this device at home. The main concern will be how you can find all of the media at home and how easy it is to search through it all.
But look at what's happening right now. There's an immense political and commercial fight going on over 'internet neutrality' and so far, the providers and their supporters are the winners. They've succeeded in overturning the new rules forbidding them to interfere with web services, leaving them free to disrupt or close services they feel are competing or might compete with their own interests. VoIP has been mentioned specifically, because it competes with traditional telephone services, but what are they going to do with this idea you describe here? Streaming movies, music and other copyright content, thereby depriving TV and radio stations of advertising? I'm sure someone will find a reason to interfere with this.
But even if that doesn't happen, providers are already claiming that they really need to be capping existing usage because of bandwidth issues. What if everyone suddenly wants to stream their movies across the web at lunchtime?
Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea and it's only been waiting for the technology to make it viable. But I'll bet you that there's going to be heavy opposition from vested interests who realize at once that they aren't profiting from it and the more popular it becomes, the more they'll lose out.
I can't stand how apple and AT&T charge now for the gb you use per month. Things like this are great but you can't even use it if you are on the new ipad plans. Only the first people got the unlimited data plans.
Agreed. I don't think there's a hope of things getting better, either, for various reasons, which take about three screens full of text to discuss and then get all political, so I'll leave it at "agreed".
Why spend $199 for more hardware when you've already got a computer to do it for you? use the Air Video app. It's like $2.99. You download it once andthen for no additional charge you can add it to your iPhone(s) or additional iPads. The download of the server software for your computer is free. You point it to the folders where your media resides (and that can be a USB hard drive(s)) and there you go. Instant streaming media anywhere in the world. It does Live Conversion.
thanks Robert, going to give that a try right now!
To continue the idea of spending less, try TVersity. It's a little more complex, but it streams and converts on the fly to more than iPads, it works with xbox, ps3, network media players, and the iPhone/iPad interface is through the web browser. Although I can imagine having a dedicated streaming hardware is good for power efficiency, and is probably a more ironed out solution, but the economy is to hell, so open source is a great alternative =)
The basic concept of this site is creative artists getting funding for their projects through pledges. I found some really interesting projects where people had pledged thousands of dollars to help the artist achieve their dream. Great concept and I do hope sites like this succeed and give artists their shot at creating their projects.
Although I'm concerned about the negative comments on this website - I agree that the idea to support aspiring creative designs / artists and giving them a chance to kickstart their careers / projects is a worthy one.
I get the impression that you have a certain 'loyalty' to kickstarter based on your own situation. I do know that certain online companies do encourage their established clientele to boost their credentials. Nice job!
So basically what Billy seems to be saying twice now is that anyone who takes an opinion contrary to his, must have some ulterior motive to pump kickstarter. According to his rational, you have to agree with him or your obviously corrupted by the enemy. How very “Joe McCarthy” of him. It’s an old debate trick used to undermine opposing viewpoints, called a “Smokescreen”. Interesting too that Billy's identity is hidden with his comments. I skimmed through this site on a search to find out more about kickstarter, as I am too looking to fund a project too. I do know of two bands who used kickstart to successfully fund their projects, but then their goal was less that $3000 – so it was attainable. I’m not sure how larger budget projects do on the site. I can see pros and cons here. Yeah, it does suck that you have to bring the donors you know to the table, and the fact that they get 5% stings a little too. On the other hand, it does provide a safer means for the donor. I have seen instances where people donate a lot of money to artists and film makers beeging for start-up cash, but then the project never gets off the ground because they didn’t reach their goal. It was all for nothing. I can see how the safety factor here can encourage donations to roll in. It’s not like it’s a scam. A scam is when you pay for something and don’t get what your bargained for. This is simply a service you pay for. What you get in return for the 5% charge is that it saves you the run around of going to your friends with cap in hand. It’s not a charity, it’s a business, and it’s the convenience you pay for here. And whether or not it’s worth the price, well I guess that’s up to you. As for me, I’m still leaning for taking out a loan instead. But if I do try kickstarter, I’ll post here again and let you know how it turned out.
Excuse me, but please take the time to notice that Billie is a she, not a 'he'. Oh, and let's not get personal and start researching each others' background, as you never, NEVER know who you may be talking to or their reputation or knowlege in the field. Not everyone is black and white, hence nick-names and aliases. Joe McCarthy?!!! Please! Thanks for telling me so much about 'smokescreens', and suggesting that my identity is 'hidden'. Perhaps it's not the face that matters but the intelligence and wisdom. Perhaps I've got a very long background in the entertainment field. Perhaps? But you'll never know, now will you. Remember, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but they don't have to get personal about it. Oh, and FYI, Kickstarter did indeed offer to fund my film project, but I saw through their 'smoke screen' (two words, not one).
With all of the coupon craziness out there on the internet these days and daily deal sites popping up like weeds, it is refreshing to see a site like this which just simply aggregates together all of the coupon needs you may have on groceries. For just a few minutes of time, you could easily be saving a few bucks on things you buy every week.
