  • Lyft

The night before a morning flight I scheduled a Lyft pickup from my Miami hotel. Litetally 5 min before the pickup time my ride disappeared from the Lyft app. Frantic (because the next available time woul result in me missing my flight), I try to find what's wrong. Finally clicked on Payment where it says "update credit card information." Which I did. But, ride was gone, resulting in me trying to secure a ride with another hotel guest going to the airport. Why on earth wouldn't the message Regarding updating the credit card come through before the last minute question are really horrible way to run a business.

UPS

Driver did not leave an info notice on door when trying to deliver package that needed signature (I was not home), yet UPS website does not allow you to change delivery time or location (unless you pay minimum of $10) online. Finally got a hold of customer service agent (India?) who could've cared less about a customer not being able to access information about a package in their own account. Agent suggested that I have it sent to a pickup location and pay $7 to do so. Unfreakinbelievable how this company, which used to be the pinnacle of success, has fallen so low. Doesn't even try any more.

If I could give zero stars I would. Ordered three items, all of which were the wrong size when compared to the supposed size chart on the website. Contacted Newchic to find out how to return them and was basically told that I could not... UNLESS I sent them a photo of the garment with a measuring tape showing the measurements so they could decide if it was the wrong size. The garments (size M) were humongous. They could fit a small elephant. And they were very VERY cheaply made. As a comparison, I made a better quality dress in my 7th grade home economics class. STAY AWAY from this company, as they have NO customer service. Also, they have changed their name at least once and probably will again. In the end, I just did a charge-back from my bank, so I did get my money back. And now I can donate these things for someone who can wear the appropriate size.

Have used this free e-vite website several times in the past and now realize why I no longer use it. It doesn't work. Period. Use this site only if you don't mind spending a considerable amount of time designing your invitation only to have it disappear (along with your entire guest list). Or, sometimes the guest list is there, but you get a big 404 error message where your carefully designed invitation used to be. Or vice versa. Unfortunately, with Paperless Post you get what you pay for.

  • The Knot

5/10/17

I had high hopes for The Knot as it seemed to be "the" place to go for a wedding website. However, my hopes were dashed. The Knot is only for those who have a lot of time to expend on navigating this bizarrely organized site. Not much is easy to do (not even registries/charities), and the customer service is nil. If you have time and enjoy piddling around a wedding site, go for it. But if you have a life, you may want to look elsewhere.

Ordered Xmas gifts well before Dec. 25. In spite of assurances that the items would arrive before Christmas Day, they did not - I still have not received them. The "tracking" code did not work. When I contacted the retailer the response I received made me think that this is a fly-by-night company. Here's their response to my query, verbatim: "Your parcel was shipped out on 12/25/2016. Standard Shipping is unable to track online. Normally, it will take 10-20 working days to be delivered Due to the sharp increase in Christmas orders, resulting in delayed delivery We are so sorry for your order not arriving before Christmas, Thanks for your understanding and supporting."

  • Zillow

Zillow's estimates are hard to decipher, especially when an estimate for a delapidated home in an OK neighborhood in Montgomery County MD lists for more than $500K when other larger and remodeled homes around it are estimated at nearly $100K less. Same with under-estimates that are based on some arcane and not well-defined criteria that does not make sense. Why does Zillow even offer estimates when they are so far off of what the real value is, including actual home sales in the area?
