From 2004 until Vacationrentals was bought and blended with Homeaway I was extremely happy and received many requests. Since that merger in about 2013-2014 my yield from
Homeaway and Vacation rentals has continued to diminish as far as rentals and return on investment for me. I do not wish to use "Book It Now", I have an Agent near the condo that handles everything. Today when I checked for my listing I realized that even though I searched for my specific area and a certain week, I could not find my listing until way down to over 200 listings and many ahead of my listing were not even from my area! I called The company representative who responded in about 2 minutes and said my area now includes other areas even if a renter asks for my specific area, the "area" has enlarged so includes other areas. Some of these areas were 10+ miles away! So even though
My unit was in the specific area requested it gets positioned behind listings
Far outside my area. Previously this was never done. In a densely population beach community where each beach differs somewhat this is totally absurd.
Why bother to have specific areas listed then direct inquirers outside the area before all possible choices within areas have been shown?
A great company would have at least informed owners," we have changed the geographic boundary for you area and it now includes all beaches within 25 miles of your beach and consequently may even be listed behind listings outside of requested area, so be aware your listing as a result may be further down the list."
To me, this means that the worldwide huge company has no teeth when it comes to truly helping me attract renters to my specfic area. It is obvious, I am paying for next to nothing. It make no sense to me to continue to pay more money to this company which is continually diluting their value to me as an effective tool in the renting of my vacation property. They have proven to me Bigger is Not Necessarily Better.
When my subscription ends, I will definitely not re-new with them. I have given them. 2-3 years to show some appreciation and respect for owners and their needs and been
Tremendously under-impressed. Some of the other smaller sites are doing just as much for me now. Sadly, GOODBYE to homeaway and vacationrentals.
