  • Amazon

9/18/23

Worst customer service ever - and I say this as someone who remembers the old days of the bell Telephone monopoly. Every phone call starts with a "conversation" with a recording that repeatedly asks to send a text message - apparently it can't understand the word, "No" - eventually leading to a customer service rep who usually has seriously limited English language skills.
I just spent an hour on 6 separate calls to Amazon to inquire about $6 purchase. If I had any sense at all I would have given up after the second call and just let Amazon keep the six bucks - but maybe that's what they're counting on...

  • Mint Mobile

5/10/23

I signed up for a Mint Mobile account three weeks ago (paying 3 months in advance) and in all that time I was unable get my phone service set up. There was nothing out of the ordinary going on here - just the inability of the customer service people in the Philippines to set up the account. I had to repeat myself endlessly, explain what I wanted to do over and over again, and ask for supervisors with no success. I eventually I just gave up, cancelled the account and demanded a refund. What a complete waste of time.
This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered - period.

  • The RealReal

7/28/22

I made a number of purchases from The RealReal, and there were no problems so I never needed customer service. But then I bought a Gucci scarf and they sent the wrong one.
I really had to hunt for the customer service phone number, and when I finally figured out how to contact them, the reps were bordering on rude, and not very helpful at all. They acknowledged that it was their error, but they made ME PAY FOR THE RETURN SHIPPING.
Seriously?

  • Vistaprint

5/23/19

This is a review of Vistaprint's design service.

I recently ordered a set of business cards using Vistaprint's design service, and honestly, it was like working with children - stupid children. It was a simple design - I supplied an image to be centered on one side of the card with 2 lines of text centered on the other.

For starters, they changed one of my lines of text. The first line was the business name and the second read, "thanks you for your business." Apparently this did not make sense to the people working on the design - they do not speak English as a native language - so they changed it, dropping the "s" in "thanks." Fortunately I noticed the change in time to correct it.

Second, they had a great deal of trouble with the concept of centering the image and text within certain quadrants of the design. For example, "center this image on the left half of the card" produced a design with the image in the upper left corner. It was the same with the text. I would have thought the basic aesthetics alone would have been enough to convince them that "centering" does not mean one line at the top of the card and the other at the bottom.

But there are actually two problems when working with Vistaprint's "design team" - and this is completely ignoring the change they made to my text. First (and most obvious) is their lack of English fluency means they do not understand basic terms like "centering," and second, they are not trained designers. They have no art training whatsoever.
Consequently, when they can't understand the instructions, they have no aesthetic sense or training to suggest to them that something might be wrong with their interpretation.

After the second failed attempt to get the basic layout correct, I decided to finish the revisions over the phone. The woman I spoke with was very polite, but had no notion of what I was talking about when I spoke of centering elements within quadrants. I was able to get the design completed only by frequently checking her uploaded revisions and making changes by saying things like, "A little lower and more to the right," or, "Try to get the second line directly below the first line." A real designer would have been s$#*!ing for days over instructions like that.

My issue with this process is that the design fee, an admittedly modest $10, only includes 3 revisions. We went through one revision simply because the "design team" didn't understand the instructions. We went through two more revisions over the phone because they couldn't understand that "centering" applies to both horizontal AND vertical. The fourth and final revision was to correct the change they made in my text. I wasn't charged anything extra for the final revision, but by then I was beginning to wonder if they weren't deliberately misconstruing the instructions in order to force me to pay an additional revision fee. I am still wondering about that because I just don't see how anyone could, in good faith, screw up such a simple design so many times and in so many ways...

The reason for the 3-star review is that I was, in the end, able to get the design I wanted. But it was far too much trouble to get there.

  • Sam's Club

5/20/18

I no longer shop at Sam's Club. I got tired of having to wait in line to leave the store while someone checks through my cart to make sure I haven't stolen anything. That is really, really offensive.

  • Target

5/20/18

I bought a dog sweater from Target.com about 2 weeks ago, and got the email notifying me of its arrival at my local store. The email stated that I had 48 hours to pick up the item. I didn't receive the email until after 5 on Friday, Labor Day weekend. Seriously? Not even a single normal business day - just two days on a holiday weekend.

I called to see if anything could be done about it, but no, it's their policy. End of story. Is this what they call customer service? Every other store in town will give you a week or more to pick up an item, and nobody expects you to make a pick-up on a holiday weekend. And the customer service rep I spoke with had an "I really couldn't be bothered" attitude, which didn't help a bit.

I have ordered quite a few things from Target.com and had them shipped to me, but this was the first time I had anything shipped to the store for pick-up. Never again. They have finally lost my business for good.

  • Audible

5/20/18

I tried their Free Trial through Amazon.com, and found their recorded books were unplayable on my MP3 player, despite the fact that they claim they are compatible, and my MP3 came pre-programmed with Audible software. Tech support was useless - all they wanted to do was remote-access my computer. They can't even resolve a simple play-back issue and I'm supposed to give them access to my entire computer system? Seriously?

And to add insult to injury, they either gave or sold my email address to other companies. I know it was Audible because I have my own domain and I assign different email addresses to each company I deal with. I just got 37 new pieces of spam today alone. If that's not illegal, it should be...

  • Etsy

3/16/13

I have made about a dozen purchases from Etsy over a two-year period. In every case the product was good, but in almost every case the customer service was quite poor. I often have to wait two weeks or more for the seller to put an item in the mail, sellers argue with me when they don't like the feedback I have left (and Etsy actually encourages this!), some sellers routinely ignore correspondence, and nearly all of them blame their service failures on "a death in the family." And Etsy doesn't want to hear about any of this. My advice to anyone using the site is to pay with PayPal - they will protect your rights, whereas Etsy will not even get involved.
