My experience with Amazon has changed over time. I've had more problems with sellers, which eventually get rectified but I've had one or two really dodgy characters in the last couple of years. Ie one that offered me a free product if I'd change my bad review to a 5-star review. One that said I'd have to send a heavy - useless - product back at my own cost if I didn't remove a review. One that said I hadn't even bought the product from them but I always take a screenshot of the product transaction, which showed their company as the seller! That was obviously some kind of scam but I got my money back anyway, to be fair to Amazon. I once bought a printer which only had 6 months' warranty left on it as the buyer had obviously been sat on it or using it for 6 months! I don't go to Amazon now as a first resort, especially for electrical goods!

Watch out for the small print... You can get vouchers for an outing but the vouchers don't cover you for everything and it can cost you on the day...

If you don't like something, you can take it back to your local store. What a nightmare I had when I did. The store staff didn't have a clue what they were doing... That's not the website's fault though!

Make sure that you know your prices... Unless something's on offer, you can usually get it just as cheap, if not cheaper elsewhere.

  • Family Search

I used to absolutely love Family Search. I could find a birth/baptism record which would show the person's parents and a marriage record which would show the father of the bride/groom. I don't know what they've done with it but all you seem to get now is a basic record of a persons birth/baptism/marriage. No different to freebmd.

Also, as with Ancestry, even whey you ask for an exact record, you still get a mixture of records.

If you do it there way and tick for a birth or marriage - you get "No records".

It used to be a really interesting and informative site. What a shame.

Whatever you've done, please revert to the old system.

I've been using Ancestry for a couple of months now. I have found numerous errors in the data, which I've flagged with them. They ask for your e-mail address when flagging errors but I haven't received a single response.

I can find records on "free" sites but not on Ancestry. I've queried this with them and they say that they don't have "all" records.

When you tick the "exact" box, you still get a mixture of records, so what's the point in that!

On a positive note, I have found a lot of information and the public family trees have been really useful, but you can't believe everything you see. I've found lots of inaccurate information!
