Free is good. This web site offers a complete explanation and training for web developing. It is standards compliant and FREE! Did I mention it is FREE?!
It is hard to do better than free. OpenOffice.org offers a free office productivity suite that will meet the needs of at least 90% of computer users, and they do it for FREE! Download your free copy!
You are right, this program met my needs and I don't need that overpriced crappy MS office. I think you just saved me some money. Cheers to Marion!!!
Awesome! just what I needed. Thanks :)
I need to be able to use microsoft word docx files, I hope they can do that and if so then this will save me some $$. Thanks Marion
As long as the DOCX isn't too complex OpenOffice should open the file just fine. Also, Microsoft Office now supports the OpenOffice default format (Open Document Format ODF) so people with Office 2007 or 2010 will be able to open files that you forget to save as DOC. You can also change the default format so if you want to always work in DOCX you can default to that format.
Finally, something I can use in place of microsoft office. $300 for something that's going to be updated in a year or two?! No thank you. I just wish it had a synonym feature like MS does. Oh well! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!
If you are a Linux enthusiast and like to keep up with what the community is doing, then this site is perfect. I provides continual updates to the status of the different Linux offerings and allows you to in one place compare many (if not all) the flavors of Linux.
This is a great site for finding open source alternative to closed source applications. Most of the alternatives are either free or less expensive that their closed source counterparts. I recommend giving it a look.
This project provides an easy way for anyone to create a bootable USB of their favorite Linux or BSD OS. There are even other useful utilities that UNetbootin can help you make like a Clonezilla USB.
This project has created a free and open source software to track down stolen laptops. I highly recommend you check it out.
I live blocks away from my college campus and often enough, I leave my laptop out if I have to run to the bathroom or something while in the campus library. I'll ask someone nearby to watch my things but would they really stop someone from trying to steal my valuables?? This site might help me get a piece of mind.
Checked it out.. and I can't quite trust it, I'm worried there is some sort of catch. But you trust it?
This site lists all kinds of software and web sites, then provides a link to search for an alternative to that software. Very useful!
This is web based PDF editing. An interesting idea. I would be cautious about uploading a file that contains sensitive information since you can't be sure they aren't retaining copies of the files.
This is a wonderfully curious radio show. It has such interesting topics that I didn't even know I was interested in until I hear them. Also, this radio show was instrumental in helping me to understand the financial meltdown. They did a great public service with that series of reports.
For the hard core Linux enthusiast. This is not for the faint of heart.
I think this is a great idea. A free, open source GPS mapping project. Allows you to contribute GPS information to a worldwide GPS database. I know people that have contributed by mapping the outline of campus buildings, or just updated information to be more current that what can be found in commercial web sites like Google Maps and Yahoo Maps. This is the ability to improve the information that your GPS provides you with.
Free and open source fonts. An open source community effort that should be supported by all of us.
A web site full of free and open source clipart. A great project that should be supported by all of us.
This is a great site for finding and downloading free audio recordings of public domain books! Awesome!
This quote from the web sites home page says it all. "The GeoNames geographical database covers all countries and contains over eight million placenames that are available for download free of charge."
This site is great for finding that obscure application or web site. They just dig deep and bring you news about information on new applications and web sites that will interest you.
This seems to be the best solution for a scouting organization. It is web based so it is available to everyone in the pack or troop over the internet. No software to install. All you need is a browser and you are good to go!
This is a great site. Not only will it translate languages but it will provide you with the FULL conjugation of a variable! This is a must have for anyone learning a romance language.

Sherry D. I am looking into doing web development as maybe a career, do you think this is a good place to start? Is something like this site enough to learn the basics? You are right, free is GOOD :) Thank you writing this review, I will spend the weekend reading this site unless there is a better one you know of out there.
Monica O. You had me at FREE! thanks for the review... I'll look into it. Sherry, was the site helpful for I would need to know the fundamentals first as well.
