After booking a flight to Johannesburg through FareDepot at what I felt was a decent price, FareDepot notified me that they had charged a nominal amount to my credit card, supposedly for security purposes, and as soon as I confirmed the amount that they had charged, they would issue my ticket. I thought this was a rather silly process but didn't question it. This was on a Friday evening. After checking my credit card account for two days with no charge appearing, I finally called the credit card company to find out if, indeed, Fare Depot had charged this amount to my card and what the amount was. After some searching, the card company was able to confirm a pending charge, of which I notified FareDepot immediately. In the meantime, with no notice, my reservation had been cancelled and FareDepot advised me that if I wished to rebook the flight I had to start all over again. While I was really annoyed by then, I tried rebooking only to find that the exact same flight was going to cost me $30 more than the original one had. $30 is not a lot of money, but it's the principle that bugs me and the fact that if they had charged the full fare to my credit card in the first place, as I expected them to do, the charge would have been approved, I would not have had to spend more money for another flight, and it would have saved another couple of hours of my time searching for other flights. I do not recommend FareDepot to anyone, and will never use them again. Add to that the fact that in their communication to me their letter was full of spelling and grammatical errors which leads me to believe that this company is not very professional.
