  • Pandora

Before there were many options, I used Pandora. However, I found the service less than intuitive. It is supposed to learn what you like as you favorite certain songs/artists. Pandora often played obscure selections and songs performed live by the artist (not the greatest quality). After a couple of years, I moved on to other services like MOG, iHeartRadio, Slacker, etc...

  • BigCrumbs

2/18/15

I have been a member at BigCrumbs for several years now. It surprises me that they haven't updated the look or functionality of their site much in all that time. It is a bit clunky and low tech compared to some others. BUT, when it comes to what matters, I have always received my cash back in a timely manner. Would recommend. (UPDATE: in Feb 2015, BigCrumbs had a small problem with about 200 users' logins being breached. While this is troubling, it was not a hack. BC has kept users informed with several letters about the status).

  • Netflix

2/18/15

Of all the movie streaming services, Netflix continues to be our top choice. They have a larger selection than others. The library satisfies needs for our younger children as well as teens. They have begun producing their own shows including House of Cards which is excellent! Netflix has continued to update and improve the user interface (though your experience will vary depending on which device you use). The service is device friendly, working on tablets, game systems, phones, etc. We rarely experience down time from them. Years ago we used the option to rent actual DVDs/Games through the mail but have since discontinued that option. I do believe however, as of 2015 it is still available. They're not the only service we use, but in my opinion, it's a great bang for your $7.99/month!

  • Old Navy

2/18/15

OldNavy online has always been quick to ship. Items arrive well packaged. Returns can be done at your local store without hassle. Discounts are frequently offered (like, all the time-so don't shop without a coupon code). Cashback options are easy to find. In my experience, the site is hassle free and accurate about stock levels. Recommended.

  • Keurig

2/18/15

Keurig has earned our business. It is RARE that we buy kcups anywhere else. After a few purchases, we reached platinum status. So, for life, we have an automatic 15% discount. We get 50% off brewers. Free shipping is easy to reach. Discounts come through email often, at least every few weeks. Any coupon code is stackable on top of our platinum discount. Keurig.com shines when it comes to service. When I've had questions or made errors entering orders, emails are returned (by a live human being!) in less than 12hours usually. Any hiccups we have had, they corrected. Often they offered us a freebie for the trouble. Can't recommend highly enough. Coffee has always been fresh. I'm a fan.

  • Petco

2/18/15

PetCo frequently offers discounts to existing users via email. The flash sales are usually GREAT... up to 40% off. Through their rewards program, we earn 10% coupons regularly. I find their website user friendly. Reviews are helpful. The cart saves items long-term if you're signed in. You can review past orders. Shipping has always been prompt. Users are notified of shipping dates or backorders (sometimes orders come in multiple shipments). I'm a fan!

  • Target

2/18/15

Target blows away the other big box stores, It is an all around better user experience. Their stores are always clean, well stocked & brightly lit. You can easily find employees nearby to help. When busy, they open additional cash registers. (Walmart's refusal to open more than 1-2 registers even with 6+ in line was especially aggravating). The family bathroom is a Godsend. And who doesn't like the Starbuck's and snack bar?!? With the addition of the RedCard we are saving an extra 5% right off. Add on the CartWheel app and I frequently save an add'l 5% (or more) on various items. Plus an extra 30 days for returns. When it comes to returns (even gift recipients), Target customer service is less hassle by far! We have used wedding & baby registry and found them helpful. Most locations have added groceries including many gluten-free options. Prices (especially frozen) beat our usual grocer even before the RedCard discount. Target always has excellent sales. The meat/produce selection is small but of good quality. We use Costco & the farmer's market for those anyway. Their home products are better designed than others. They're big about being fresh and on-trend. Service thru their website is dependable.

Tip for consumers:
As a RedCard user, we get free shipping. Login and the site stores items in your cart long-term (or make a favorites list). The user reviews are helpful. Through cashback sites, you can often get an extra 3% back.

  • Hulu

2/18/15

When it comes to following our favorite TV shows, we want what we want on demand, when we want it. Hulu gets used as much if not more than our DVR. For under $10/month, we have access to a huge selection including interesting content from overseas. The library satisfies needs for every family member regardless of age or taste. They have even added their own original shows. Hulu continues to keep their user interface very fresh and intuitive. Over the years, we have rarely experienced down time from the site. There are commercials, however spot breaks are under 90seconds. Content doesn't stay around forever. Some shows do expire. However, you can add your faves to your cue & receive updates about the status. Hulu isn't the only service we use, but with the MASSIVE amount of free content, it's a great bang for under $10/month! (*they do offer a selection of movies, but it is so poor, we rarely watch them)

  • Roku

2/18/15

We have owned Roku since it first appeared and no one knew what the heck it was. Now there are many options for streaming content to your home TV. While the menus are not as slick as AppleTV, we find more freedom and more content (less restriction) using Roku. We have owned both hardwire and wireless versions. There are handy apps if you wish to use your phone/tablet in lieu of the Roku remote. A very dependable gadget. After nearly a decade of use, our original Roku is still alive and kicking. Reasonably priced & widely available.

  • HBO Go

2/18/15

We are HBO subscribers, so we have access to their portable app HBOGo. Recently, we discovered (and became addicted to) the series Boardwalk Empire. While traveling for work, we tried outHBOGo to watch B. E. on iPad. Using the AirPlay feature, we mirrored the picture to the hotel TV with our Apple TV device. But even without our Apple goodies, we were able to see all our HBO content on demand on phones or tablets. In my experience, the service was error free. I found it much more user friendly than Dish TV's own app. Would recommend it if you sub to HBO.
