  • Walmart

Walmart is a mix of Target, Costco and Krogers. No particular advantages or disadvantages. They have a few unique products and services and like most large retailers they guarantee what they sell. Prices are very competitive but I will not drive 5 extra miles just to get a special Walmart deal. I will be visiting their store more often now that there is one fairly close by.

  • Amazon

I use Amazon Prime and love the extra service and perks. Almost everything I need is obtainable from my desk at home. Prices are very competitive and product reviews and specifications are generously provided. 2 day delivery is standard and the shipping is usually free.

The downside is I really need to get outside more. Also I find shopping inside a brick and mortar store more culturally satisfying.

My purchases so far which are significant have almost always met my satisfaction. I have only had to return one item out of hundreds. Price guarantee is an Amazon policy but collecting a refund after the fact requires a lot of obscure website navigation.

Make sure you are ordering what you really want when you 'pulled the trigger' on your order. Chances are if you change your mind the order will already on its way and it will be too late to renege.

  • Booking.com

Really not much different most other travel booking websites, I just happened to land in their camp first. I've used a few of the others as well with satisfaction. I have received great pricing and their reviews have steered me towards better values. Name brand motels vary in quality with location so the reviews are quite valuable. Booking.com does benchmark the lowball price and is its own discount resource so other discounts won't apply i. E. AAA or other travel rewards, however Bookings.com usually meets or beats all other incentives. Foreign travel reservations are of course also provided.

  • Target

Let's face it, there are X numbered popular items that are available in many stores at similar prices. Target tries to offer a few products e.g. electronics and seasonal attractions that are a bit nicer ($$$) than their competitors. They do this by eliminating some of the really low ball items. But keep your guard up they sell many of the cheap items found elsewhere.

Although I prefer to eat out in nice restaurants I actually enjoy their personal sized pizza.

Christmas time has been a controversy at Target. I love the Christmas season, the decorations and the music. I also enjoy greeting others with a Merry Christmas. Target avoids such holiday amenities by policy (yes they do decorate their stores nicely). So when you enter Target at Christmas time the first thing you will notice is the silence. There was a time I would have been offended at the veiled secularity but I must admit I actually enjoy shopping in a more quiet atmosphere.

  • Kmart

12/9/15

Kmart has been through some very hard times and have been fighting to prove themselves worthy. Their merger with Sears is a good arrangement which allows many shared quality products to be displayed (Craftsman tools and Kenmore appliances). Most of their store is similar in size and layout to Target, Kmart's pricing is perhaps slightly more competitive. One nice advantage is that online shopping for Sears is also available at Kmart with the same incentives.

  • DrudgeReport

12/8/15

The plain vanilla easy to sort headlines were always a welcome sight. Usually there was quality leading edge information. Lately (2015) the streaming has consumed an excessively large amount of the download time, it is hard to review the entire page without a time consuming refresh (~2 minutes to scan all headlines). Most significant downgrade for me is the increased puerile fascination with pop culture same sex and drugs. So I am downgrading Drudge from 'cool' to 'MEH'
