Website Tricked me into commiting to a reservation, then charged a large cancellation fee almost the cost of 1 night. I refuse to use companies that intentionally deceive me in order to increase business, I will never use booking.com again. Once you give your credit card number, you are doomed with Booking.com

I am sorry to hear about this.
Hotels that advertise on Booking.com set the rate/policy of the rooms that are offered. Often, the option to cancel is determined by rate (a booking that does not allow free cancellation is often the least expensive). These details are provided to guests prior to booking, under the "conditions" column (with additional details provided if you hold your cursor above the blue "?").
Booking.com requires a great deal of information in order to make a booking, and asks a guest a number of times during the booking process to confirm the details. This is to ensure guests understand they are booking, as well as the hotel they are booking and dates. I would like to look into this for you, can you provide your booking number?
