I have used spamcop's free reporting for years but never knew if it was really helping until I tested it for myself. Who hasn't received an email from a scammer calling themselves Farida Waziri, a real person who is the Executive Chairperson of the Nigerian EFCC? I certainly have, dozens of them. Spamcop will probably not appreciate me doing this but one time I decided to string one of these scammers along while also reporting them. I would make up tale after tale as to why I had not yet been able to send them their "fee" to release my millions of dollars. Sometimes it was several days before they replied. They said they kept having problems with their email account and had to reregister (thanks to spamcop's reporting, no doubt). By the time I finally tired of toying with them and told them I had only been doing so to waste their time, their return email address was Farrrrida Waziiiiri. So yes, reporting to spamcop does get results but can't really stop these devils, nothing can. They just reregister using a different name or, as in this case, just add a few more letters to the name they're using. Still, it wasted some of their time, time that might have been used emailing someone else who was more gullible than me who could have fallen into their trap.
I hate spam like many people do. All you do is right click on the spam email, hit view message source, copy, then paste it onto the Spamcop site and it tells you what ISP it came from and sends an abuse report for you. It'll also tell you who hosts and offending links in the spam. It's a free site, but they'll bug you for donations.
I was just looking for a free anti-spam email tool. This site looks very simple, but I see it is owned by cisco, so it must be fairly reputable. Does it work with any email system...have you used it for a long time?
A SpamCop user for a few years now for reporting Spam "Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE)".
While SpamCop cannot prevent Spam, they do help make it harder for the Spammers/Scammers to reach you by having them continually create different email accounts to push their spam.
SpamCop does offer a "free" and "paid" service. Their free service allows "anyone" to report spam through them. Some of the features their paid service offers is mail service, reporting, blacklisting and filtering.
Site has an expensive online help system will guide and show the user how to report spam from their email software.
Website info:
What is SpamCop?
SpamCop's wide range of spam reporting and filtering services aims to eliminate spam at its source.
SpamCop is the premier web-based service for reporting and blocking spam, founded in 1998. SpamCop processes over one million spam complaints a day and is supported by hundreds of thousands of users, a knowledgeable volunteer community, and a professional staff. SpamCop streamlines the process of determining the origin of spam emails and reporting them to the relevant Internet service providers. SpamCop offers both free and premium reporting services.
You can do your part to help slow the spam and keep some unsuspecting receiver of a Scam/Phishing from being scammed by reporting it.
For the UCE Spam email you receive most often the "From", "Sent by", "To" and "Reply To" email address are almost always fake or spoofed (stolen/using someones real address to make it look legitimate), they don't need or want your reply. For emails promoting a Scam or Phishing most often the "Reply To" email address or the email address they want you to use located in the email body is usually their real Scam/Phish email address (they want and need you to contact them) and they should be report to have them closed. Then they will lose anything they received to that account when its deleted.
Some common abuse/spam email reporting addresses. Note: When reporting to these addresses you should include the "complete" email header. If you are unsure of how to view/copy the email header information just "forward" the entire email to them. Use the "abuse" addresses for reporting "abuse/phishing" spam.

Note: that email you received from what you think is your bank, credit card company, or online payment service (PayPal) which "Was Not" sent to "Your email address", and "Does Not" have "Your Account Name" or information from your account in it is a Spam or Phishing.
Your bank, credit card company, or online payment service know "Exactly" who you are "By Name" and would "Never" send "You" an email telling you that you need to update your account or "change" your password. If in doubt, "Call" them on the phone, talking is real!!!
I have used the site for many years without ever adding fuel to my account. I don't remember a time where the browser history didn't included it in the past 7 years or so
Like everyone, I hate spam and find this easy although in the past few months the site has been updated so the 6 seconds you have to wait to process the spam message... is not random & have been told to wait 90 seconds at time. This is quite annoying but I refuse to pay to fuel my account, put the browser page behind and do something else until the time has expired.
A must site for everyone who hates spam. Will continue to use it everytime I receive a spam message
One thing though. Spamcop blocked my e-mail account as they said I abused their system but it's was untrue. A spammer got his own back as I reported all their spams blocking them. I signed up with a different e-mail & have used that for the majority of the time I have used the site for
