“Quality beautiful furniture, great delivery, and great customer service”

Kimberly G.
8/8/22

In the last year and a half I moved from a roughly 2,300 square foot home to a roughly 5,000 square feet home, so I needed a lot more furniture. (My existing furniture was also old and a lot needed to be updated). My new home was also built in 2000 so the lighting, hardware, etc was outdated. I spent an arm and a leg at Restoration Hardware, and it was totally worth it. First, their products are more attractive and of a better quality than the other companies I have ordered from (Basset, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Arhaus, etc…). Granted, they are more expensive, but they are good enough to warrant the extra charge if you can afford it. Also, during the pandemic they have shipped faster than those other companies I ordered from. Their website also allows you to shop in stock. If the other companies have that, it's harder to find. They waived their return policy for me multiple times (granted I had very good reasons and didn't take advantage). Their customer service reps have been on the whole more informed and helpful. I did use their interior design services in Dallas one time and wasn't impressed. However, I'm pretty sure I annoyed my independent interior designer asking her virtually every time she made a recommendation whether she could make a recommendation from RH instead. Love RH, and I'm a perfectionist.

We bought their marino aluminum collection for our patio and thought it would be great, however, it broke on us within 6 months and we were left with no outdoor furniture. My wife found this company called Harbor Classic which touted same day shipping and we figured we'd give them a try since they were seemingly a new company. We are very happy with their product and indeed our furniture shipped instantly and arrived quicker than quick. HC is def worth a shot over RH we'd say!

In 2018, I purchased a Churchill chair and ottoman. It is a beautiful tufted leather. So far, they've replace the seat cushion twice, as it collapsed to about two inches. Now, the leg on the ottoman has fallen off. And now, the leather on the arm has worn through to a hole. My wife and I are older, o children bouncing on the chair, etc. so, I either got a 'lemon' of a chair, or the quality was just poor. A lot of money for a chair that I thought would last longer than me!

Purchased a number of furniture pieces from RH. Very disappointed in the quality. Dining chairs are 3 years old and don't get a lot of use. One of the chairs' seat webbing has failed already and I will need to take it to an upholstery shop for repair - not what you would expect for paying a premium price.

Verified purchase

I loved my RH furniture when I first bought it, now 11 years ago. Slipcovered slope arm sofa, bench seat, slipcovered dining chairs, 2 slipcovered side living room chairs and various other furniture. The fabric was natural Belgium Linen and beautiful. Held up until now. NOW they've changed their source for materials, since covid and they are horrid! Their supposed white Textured linen weave is made in Mexico and it feels like plastic, is yellow like nicotine stain, it's awful. The only white they have is BRIGHT laundered white. The natural is now a darker nicotine stain. Awful. Sad, because I have been ready to purchase several thousand dollars but just can't bring myself to do so because of the poor fabrics, which are called "Linen weave" which I think means it's not real linen. Sure doesn't feel like linen. Frustrating

Products used:
6' slope arm sofa with Linen slipcover, 2 matching chairs, 6 slipcovered dining room chairs in Linen,
Boulingerie reclaimed dining table, reclaimed wood 95" tall wood and glass cabinet, bedroom set, coffee table. These were bought 11 years ago. I was looking to replace much of it but the fabric holds me back.

I was impressed with my purchase and the way it looks. The quality is good, but I wouldn't say amazing. Overall they have very cute things, but maybe the price could be a little lower so it makes sense with the quality.

Anyone that knows Restoration Hardware, knows the St. James furniture, and others, are very expensive. With that said, I am so disappointed at my St. James bedroom set. I bought six pieces and it has been a very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, we bought this bedroom suit, and only six years later it completely changed colors. It is now a yellow type of wood versus the white wash we purchased. Beware of buying this as it may not look the way it does today a few years from now and it's too costly to be going through what we are going through at this time. We must now stain the furniture, refinished, and that you will be costly. They also do not stand behind their furniture, so once again… Beware and make sure you know what you're purchasing.

Tip for consumers:
Should stand behind their products and make it right. Too expensive to buy a set and it completely changes color over time. Represents a cheap product despite the cost.

If no stars were available, that's the rating I would give RH. At the new Columbus Easton store in August, 2021, in person, we told the salesperson (Derek) that we were prepared to order about $10K worth of furniture but inquired about adding other pieces that he said had been discontinued. He said he would have store manager (Yukiko) call us. It's been over a week and no call. I'm guessing the "salespeople" are just there to monitor the front door, look pretty, and nothing else. I'm sure Derek forgot about us the minute we walked out the door. Arrogant, untrustworthy, all-for-show, don't-care-if-we sell-anything... that's Restoration Hardware.

Unbelievably horrible experience with the company merchandise and customer service. I purchased outdoor furniture for over $22,000 (after a big discount). It included lounge chairs, loveseats, armchairs, dining table and dining chairs. Within 5 years, the cushions have completely fallen apart at the seams. The deterioration started a year after the purchase. Please note that I had 2 different fabrics on the dining chairs and lounge furniture cushions. Dining chairs that are used most often are in perfect condition. Lounge chairs are embarrassing every single one of them. I'll try to post pictures.
The customer service gave me a run around for 3 weeks. No one would get back to me pretending they didn't get my e-mail. I couldn't get any phone calls returned. I finally got their verdict today that they are happy to replace the cushions but I had to pay for it. Why would I want to pay for cushions that have proven to be defective? Why would I ever want to deal with this company? They should feel ashamed of their product. Overpriced crap!

I had wanted a Printmaker's desk and bookcase for years. I got a small windfall and decided to take the plunge. Boy, what a disappointment. This furniture is cheap garbage. It reminds me of the junk you could buy at Pier 1 back in the 1980s. Soft, cheap wood; half-assed staining; extremely poor construction. They're both made in China and just hopelessly overpriced. The soft alloy hardware that was supposed to join the two halves of the desk together broke after just a few months (the bolts sheared in half), and I had to resort to using Alien Tape to attach the two pieces so I could make the desk usable. See the photos I've attached? This much damage resulted to the finish after using just a damp paper towel! I tried contacting RH for new hardware, but their customer service is nonexistent. They promise a reply "within 24 hours" when you send an e-mail, but not one of my SIX e-mails has gotten a response yet--and it's been a month. Don't fall for the hype and the glossy catalogs. This stuff is good for one thing: building a fire.

We just completed a beautiful renovation of our ensuite bathroom and we were excited to check out Restoration Hardware. We looked around and saw some beautiful towels, etc. There was not a person in sight to ask how much these towels were as there was no price tag on anything. We needed so many things to complete our bathroom but the place was empty. I called customer service, Yorkdale, as that's where I was at the time, the phone rang and rang and rang. There was no answer still nobody to be seen for any help at all. We finally had someone come and help us after we complained to a person just walking by. He found many items for us, and we became very excited, I put down my card and knew that my decisions were perfect. After a few minutes he told us there was not one thing in stock and we would have to wait until January 2024. How ridiculous is that? This is absolutely horrible customer service, and every sense of the word. So disappointed!

I purchased the Cloud sofa from RH. I was told in would be 3 months wait from when I purchased it on Father's day 2021 with my children. Ok. I get it - the couch is awesome, custom made, big delays. However, when I received an email for delivery earlier than expected, I was delighted. I selected a specific date - Sat, Aug 14,2021, to be exact. This day has now come and gone and nothing from RH. No update. No email. No phone call. Nothing.

So, I get on the chat feature with RH, and they have no record of that specific day for delivery. Hmm! Like really?

Yet, when I went into the Austin store a week before on the previous Sunday to confirm in person that this specific date, Aug 14,2021, was selected and to add alternative nbrs to call for delivery, their in-store associate confirmed Aug 14,2021 as the date I selected.

So, Aug 14,2021, an entire day, wasted waiting on nothing.

On the chat with RH, a 'Ron P' to be exact, was less than stellar. The absolute audacity of 'Ron P''s attitude was unbelievable from a company of this stature. That SOB, yep, he is definitely in that category, just abruptly ended the chat when he could not fix the problem. He did state that he called his manager, the store manager, and the delivery people and that there was nothing else he could do. So, click, poof, and he ended the chat and he was gone. He did not even wait to hear back from his manager, the store, or the delivery people as to why they moved the date without informing me.

Hell of a company your running Mr. GARY FRIEDMAN (CEO). With Customer Service like this, you have now lost all my future business and those of many of my friends and enemies alike. And I have a new 3000 sq ft house to decorate - this was the first purchase.

Everyone, my friends and enemies alike, were waiting on me for this purchase to see if the couch was worth the money. With Support like this, IT IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING.

On to other furniture companies. I do not spend money with a company that completely disrespects its customers. There are companies waiting for opportunity like this. They will have it now.

Tip for consumers:
Go find another furniture store. It is obvious that RH does not honor its commitments.

Update 03/2020: BEWARE! I noticed an unauthorized credit card charge from RH, for $109 and change. Turns out they had renewed my annual membership WITHOUT ASKING! They had retained my credit card information and set up the membership as a recurring charge. When I phoned RH to report this, the agent said I would be refunded. No apology or explanation offered. HORRIBLE company.

I ordered more than $1k worth of merchandise, including a multi-item set of sheets. Although all items showed as in-stock when I placed the order, five items in the sheet set were noted as backordered ("will be delivered on or before X date") by about a month in my shipping notice. Given that this was a set of sheets (not useful if the entire set is not available), I called to confirm that they would indeed be restocked. I was assured that they would be. The day before the stated "on or before" delivery date for the backorder, I still had not received any shipping notice. So I phoned RH and got a remarkably dim service rep. I stated (clearly) what I was calling (backordered items, delivery "on or before" due date tomorrow, no notice of shipping, etc.), and she pulls up my account, hems and haws, puts me on a long hold, comes back and continues to say "hmm, huh," as if it's the biggest puzzle in the world. Really? I ask her, point blank, why she is so puzzled. She says, "Because you ordered multiple items and some of them were not delivered." Oh... my... god. I ask for a supervisor, wait on more seemingly endless hold, only to be told that "the items are being pulled from the shelves right now." Right, so RH dropped my backorder, obviously. She says the items will ship within 24 hours. She goes out of her way to avoid admitting that RH screwed up. Even though they should have sent me a notification that the backorder was delayed (of course, the real reason they did not notify me is that they dropped my order, but she does not admit this). I push her on the matter annoyed at further delays and she says that it takes 24 hours for the items to ship and then 7-10 business days to arrive. Excuse me? I am supposed to wait another two weeks? I suggest that she might expedite the shipping. She say she will look into that but probably can't do it because the items have already been entered into the shipping process. Really? She already told me the "items were being pulled from the shelves right now." It's all a bunch of BS to cover up the fact that they lost my backorder and I will have been sitting on a partial order for more than two months before I receive the rest of my items. How do these folks stay in business? I certainly wouldn't order furniture from them.

The membership card is a trick! Do not buy!

• Previous review

I *purposely* put together an order with RH that was large enough that the 25% savings negated the cost of the (annual) $100 RH discount card. So I put that membership card in my basket. All items in my order were listed as in stock and ready to ship. I even changed a couple selections because my first choices were backordered. Two days after I placed my $500 order, I got an email from RH telling me that one item was canceled because it was out of stock. This was a $108 item, so there goes my balanced order! I explained the situation to the customer service drone, and requested a partial refund of the RH card fee, since RH screwed up on this. I was refused, and was given a cookie cutter spiel about backordered stock, and how RH cannot guarantee delivery dates, etc. But that had nothing to do with an order that was all in-stock merchandise! So what was the suggestion for remedy that RH offered? The guy told me to buy another item that was in the same category but was made of a different material and had as little to do with what I ordered as apples have to do with oranges. Really? I would cancel my entire order if I could. I certainly will not renew my RH card next year. I'll probably wait for a sale and buy enough goods to cover the cost of the card, and then will have nothing to do with RH again. Is that a good way to run your business, alienating customers?

We have purchased Restoration Hardware items over the years. Everything except the sheets has had an issue. The coffee table we purchased that was reclaimed wood loses its stain if you attempt to wipe it down and for the sake of time I will just mention the furniture bed set we bought in 2019. We finally decided to bite the bullet and treat ourselves to a Restoration Hardware bedroom furniture set! When it arrived it was light weight and felt cheap. The only heaviness was in the bottom due to the feet, not in the quality. It was a major disappointment, but we lived with them. Last month was the first time I had spilled any liquid on my nightstand. Immediately, I wiped up the spill. A few days later, I noticed that the very top of my nightstand was domed. I bent down and realized that the top layers of wood on top had literally popped up, ripping the paint off of the seem and permanently rising up 1/4 inch. We have attempted hammering it back down with a rubber mallet, but to no avail. This past weekend we went out and bought a BEAUTIFUL antique furniture set for $1300 to replace this. Not sure what will do with it since one of the pieces is permanently damaged. Terrible quality, terrible prices. Completely unfair to hard working people out there who want something extra special in their home & buy this unaware.

You would like to think that Restoration Hardware (RH) is a class store, perhaps like Nordstrom were customers and quality come first, but nothing can be further from the truth. My experience deal with their outdoor furniture and customer service. The outdoor furniture is of poor quality and does not appear to be what it seems.
Unlike other outdoor furniture cushions that you might have had in the past, their cushions are not waterproof and will absorb water like sponges when wet. Plus when you buy them you sign an agreement that they can't be returned. RH solution is to buy plastic covers for each piece at $100 + per cover. In addition the fabric they use, while like being Sunbrella is not as durable and prone to mold. They claim that there cushions can't be waterproof and meet there standards of comfort. Really? Plus they say they have that disclaimer in on the website which may be there but try to find it.
The furniture frames are also inferior, while the designs look terrific, you don't get what you see. The furniture appears to have a teak frame but may only have a teak foot accent. The frames are heavy painted iron and prone to rust in area near the sea. Surely for what they charge they could afford to give you great quality, like outdoor foam cushions and aluminum frames or real teak. If you don't mind rust stains on your patio or soggy moldy cushions then RH will not disappoint you.

RH's new member "club", is an insult to any RH credit card holder. They're asking you to pay a yearly fee to save up to 25%. Are you kidding me? What do you think the APR is on their credit card. Between this and the astronomical shipping fees, I'm shopping there a lot less.

Ok, I admit my house is starting to look like an RH show room. Most of their merchandise is great quality. I have everything from furniture to bed linens. Shipping is usually a breeze. After many orders, we have had a couple of things we weren't happy with, but they have always been great to work to address the concern.
