Ordered a rc plane, never arrived and they don't reply to e-mails. Stay clear of these, they obviously are crooks cos seen loads of these reviews.
Absolute bunch of crooks. Took my money promising next day delivery, but took 2 weeks to deliver. By this time I had made 2 attempts to cancel the order by email because 2 weeks was too late for my girlfriend's birthday, but no reply.
Eventually they sent an email saying that they would accept a return as a good will gesture, but I would have to pay to send it back and would be refunded less the outbound delivery charge + stocking fee.
It is now 28th March and I have had no refund despite them saying that they had. I placed the order in December.
These people really need to be stopped from trading.
did you call your credit card to dispute the charge?
you can report them to trading standards, consumer direct and action fraud!
I am currently going through the charge-back process with my bank. It's taking up so much of my time. I had to fill in a large form, write a long piece of prose about what had happened, and provide supporting evidence (emails, website screenshots etc etc). It's been such a hassle over £ 79.99, but this is what remote-island.co.uk want. they want people to give up, so that they can keep their money.
I can't believe I've been so stupid. They don't advertise a phone number or proper trading address - I blame myself for having too much faith in other people. I should learn to be more cynical !!!
unfortunately this is happening all over the place to a lot of people so don't be too hard on yourself. i agree that that's probably what they want - probably a small percentage of people just walk away - so think of £80 multiplied by however hundreds of people. that's a nice little cushy pad for them.

Yes, that's right. I cancelled the order as soon as they broke their contract to deliver on a next day basis, because that's why I bought from them. They just ignored my cancellation requests and sent the product two weeks later. I couldn't believe it. I had already bought the plane elsewhere (from decent people who sent it when they said they would), so my girlfriend and I had two planes.
Like I say, I couldn't believe they would just send the plane two weeks after the advertised delivery date - not only this, I found out that they took my money on the same day I placed the order, long before it had been despatched. Basically their attitude is "there you go, here's your plane, take it or leave it".
After several emails requesting to return they sent an email with no apology saying that they would accept a return, but really they were doing me a favour. I reluctantly returned the plane on their terms that I would pay for both outbound and return postage. I checked the courier POD and they signed for it. Now they have the plane and my money, and will not respond to my requests to execute a refund.
They have no phone number, so I can't communicate with them. They also have no official trading address, so basically www.remote-island.co.uk have always planned to behave unlawfully towards their customers, yet make themselves hidden from the consequences / complaints.
The whole situation is a complete disgrace, and when I said they were crooks I meant it. Their behaviour is against the law, so they are no better than common thieves. I put my name to this opinion.
that's a common story but still horrible. definitely report them to the authorities as well - especially before they take the site down and try to make a run for it.
I had a similar problem. They sold me defective goods and gave me rubbish about not being able to accept it back as it wasn't reported in 7 days! I will be reporting them!

they took my money, but no goods ever arrived. don't waste electricity emailing ,they will not reply . use a reputable model shop with a phone number, plenty good ones out there. remote island are the pits and should be jailed, though I doubt if they would make ' model' prisoners. Mac.
Yep. I've had the same experience at the others. I bought faulty goods and have been refused a refund despite returning the item. These guys are a total joke. Do not use this website if you value quality and customer service.

wish i had read this review before i had placed my order everything ive looked at is true ,promised my son a remote boat for his birthday no show not even a reply to the countless emails i sent feel a right mug ,companies like this want hunting down and hit with the full force of the law ,and spend a few days getting moaned at by all the kids thet have let down conning bastards

This company is run by fraudsters and crooks who must be prosecuted and closed down now

Bought this as a gift for someone and of course I had to test it out myself. The product works very well and after I gave it I just had to buy one for myself. Fast delivery, fair prices and loads of fun! Its not just for young people, or just for boys. I think anyone would love to have one of these motorized toys.

I have bought from these guys several times. They are so helpful and polite and everything I need is always in
Stock and delivered as stated. I have dealt with many rc online retailers along with several actual model shops and would never use them again, Its Remote Island all the way baby! Amazing RC Plane, excellent quality, excellent stock of spare parts. Very, very good and helpful staff. Remote Island is an amazing company and so is my model.

Good effort Remote Island at attempting to counteract the bad reviews on this website. What makes it blindingly obvious that it's you is the fact that you say that the staff are helpful - at what - stealing money ? Furthermore, if your company had a culture of helping its customers, you would advertise a phone number and actually BE AVAILABLE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Total rip-off merchants, tell you to return goods via their returns system and then keep the goods without giving you a new one or a refund....you cannot call them, they ignore your emails and are total frauds....do no buy from this website !!! You have been warned !
call your credit card company and file a dispute. make sure you have all the evidence to back up your claim...

seems like a lot of folk have been ripped off by this bunch,I have just laid a complaint on consumerdirect.gov.uk,I ask that all you fellow victims please do the same,if enough people complain,maybe we can put them out of business.thanks. We bought snow goose rc plane,which was faulty,sent a email requesting return code,
they have never replied ,this was october 2011..Stay away.

I purchased a RC speedboat at Christmas for my son. Given the cold weather we did not get to try it out until March. The boat looked great! The problem? It states a 40M distance on the operational manual but we struggled to get 4M!It's obvious that it's a fault with the transmitter/receiver. on contacting Remote Island they fobbed me off with loads of questions asking if it passed the pre-operational checks etc. After answering these they came back with "we do request to be notified within 7 days of any manufacturing faults that are inherent"! They must have known that a purchase of a RC Boat before Xmas is likely to result in it not being used within 7 days! My advice is to seek a local supplier, try it, check your warranty period and only then should you part with your cash. One other thing; be very cautious if you buy anything from Remote Island.

At first it appears a well designed website with lotes of fun products. I bought a radio controlled airplance which was appalling quality, and was faulty in more ways than one.
I returned this product exactly as they requested. They received and signed for the product but 7 weeks and 10 e-mails later they have still not credited me.
Please do not use this website.
Report them to consumers direct & trading standards. They will take them to court if there is sufficient evidence.
