I have seen this company being discussed on a few forums in the last 48 hrs or so. If this really is English International back to their old tricks again under a different name then they have to be stopped. I spent three months working for them last year, they are complete crooks and either closed themselves down or were shut down by the authorities. I also reported them to trading standards, obviously they seem to still be at large. To anyone reading this who worked for English International last year and suspect these guys to be them, then PLEASE report them! I plan to give these guys a ring tomorrow and see if they sound legit, but from all the stuff I've read in the last couple of days I can't believe its all lies.

A complete scam. My friend just mentioned to me about this opportunity to teach in china. I myself found my self in his shoes last year with a company called English International. On looking at the website at podtravelandteach i can see that it is the same. I remember following forums last year, be sure to avoid this one.

Some have alleged that this site is a front for a previous company which generated many complaints (see other posts) and caution is advised. Please look at the Q&A section here for more details.
Perhaps the most important question to ask if you deal with this sites is: "What type of visa do you arrange for me?" - if the answer is "a tourist visa" then yuo need to know that it is illegal to work in China on a tourist visa. Any reputable company would know that.

I applied with this company. And, just this morning, I recieved a phone call saying I had been successful. So I decided to do a little research and came across this page and another page on Yahoo answers where the same thing is basically being said.
It got me to thinking, every single person that has posted on this site and on Yahoo $#*!ing about this company for whatever reasons, every single one of you have no other posts except these ones in which you are slagging off this company.
How can anybody be sure that you're not just trying to sabotage this?
Or that everybody who posts is not actually the same person?
Why should you be trusted any more than they should?

I for one, will be going to meet the team in Batley and am very excited about it. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and ah well, **** happens.

Unless you have proof (and it would appear that you don't), maybe you should rethink posting on every website where this company is mentioned.
:)

Pod travel and teach seemed ideal at first but on doing further research i'm unsure about applying.

How old are Pod travel and teach anyway. Their website is new an all these reports seem to be new. Any further advice on the truth would be much appreciate, not from the company thankyou but people who have had experience with pod travel and tach. thankyou.

reports from current pod teachers @ http://www.eslcafe.com/discussion/dz1/index.cgi?read=1408952488

His passport refers to him as BILAL ISMAIL SONI, born 13 January 1985. His passport number is 458659196, issued by UKPA on 21 April 2006.

He ran an English organisation called English International, from Leeds in Yorkshire, England. The company attracted English people to come to China to teach English, mainly at Kindergarten level.

As part of the enticement to come to China, foreign teachers were promised, upon completing their 6 month contract: Half their airfare refunded; the entire cost of their travel visa; the entire cost of hotel accommodation while training; two full weeks paid leave and an entire refund of the private taxi fare from Shenzhen Airport to the hotel where training took place.

With Mr Soni, having disappeared, none of the foreign teachers seems able to get the money rightfully owed to them. This amounts to an average 1,000 GBP per person.

In addition to the money he owes to foreign teachers, he has also cheated many Chinese people who have invested money in property to accommodate the foreign teachers and who will now not get this money refunded.

As I have explained, this person has left a lot of people, both Chinese and foreign, extremely unhappy and any assistance you can give in tracking this person down and bringing him to justice would be gratefully appreciated.

seach english international rip off report. my blood is absolutly boiling over learning they have started this cycle again. do not be fooled. will not be long before word gets around again with those unfortunate to work for them before. the truth came out before and the had to shut down. one of the company owners "billy" (though he had many names) can not step foot back in china as he will be arrested for fraud. please do you research. they will pay you £400, the school pays £1000 plus. they do absolutly nothing for their money, you will be working illigally on a tourist visa. if you are unsure ask the chinese consulate when you get your visa. they do not care about the children, the schools or you. just the cash. the chinese mafia were even involved before. no joke. please research them. old company names, havefunteaching.co.uk englishinternational leeds.

yes i know. misspelled some words there.

threatening a girl with a knife. chinese partner spitting and shaking school gates for money from a teacher. nothing riembursed as stated. something i will not post here.

Been established since 2007?

From a yahoo forum, before it will be deleted. -First of all our company is called Pod Travel and Teach and we do not go by any other names. We have been going since 2007 where we have been working closely with chinese clients and educational establishments throughout China from the very beginning. In the early years we were finding placement's for companies from abroad to place their candidates to the clients we had in China. Around september 2010 we have had a test trial program where we as a company had sent out 35 people out in china making sure that we learn and adapt for a much bigger period for the beginning of the chinese new year. Fast approaching February and March we as a company are now looking to send out approximately 75 candidates, which fit and match our criteria before we start sending people out.

These 35 people are the ones who were scammed and witnessed the behaviour of these scum from Batley. Hopefully, some of those old teachers will hear of this and help to prevent them doing this again. It is illegal work, the school pays you up to 12000 pounds, but "POD" will pay you 400 pounds. Once you are out there and signed to this contract and realise how the scam is going you wil leave, only for them to threaten you, seriously. You visa and flight will not be refunded as you would not have completed you 12 month contract. I hope as many people learn about this scam asap, and they do not get away with this again. As the 35 "test" people were abandoned by them in china, no airfares or visa refunds.. Oh, thankyou for having your address on you website, i will pop down sometime for that "cuppa" :)

sorry, thinking in rmb, its 1200 pounds per month from the school

thanks for all the info, alex! i'm sure it will be helpful to someone who googles the website..

I will stop posting now, a yahoo question and answer has just been reported and deleted after i exposed "Vicky" by pointing out some mistakes she made in defending herself. I am very dissapointed in you Billy, Adam and "Vicky" for going down this road again, shame on you !!

Stear well clear of this lot, a complete set of con artists. It seems to be the work of the same people behind English International who I had the misfortune to get involved with last year. These guys have been under investigation before and I cant believe they have been allowed to do it again.

Thanks ross, spread the word!!

Copy of a post I made on Gumtree.co.uk which the community might find useful:

* The company is real: Pod (GB) Ltd, registered in Norwich
* However, the company is flagged as "Dormant" and recently (November) changed its directors so is probably in new hands
* Some people are asserting (but without offering any proof) that this company is linked to a similar company, "English International" about which there are numberous complaints
* You will find these posts interesting:
- http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110118120659AAFWFA9
* Questions you should ask include:
- Is the visa you will arrange for me a working visa or a tourist visa?
- If told "toursist visa" then ask if it's legal to work in china on a tourist Visa? (it is actually illegal, although I believe you can look for work and be interviewed)
- you could in theory be open to local extortion if someone there knows you are working on a tourist visa...
- ask how they earn their money: they can charge you, the school or both (which is implied in other posts)

The general advice for you (and for schools in China seeking teachers) is to only teach with the TEFL qualification.

Another post from Gumtree responding to a defensive post from "Vicky" at PodTravelAndTeach.co.uk - this might also be useful here:

Some points and questions for "Vicky_a123":
* Thanks for clarifying that you make you omney from the Chinese Companies that you work with and not from the teachers
* You didn't however answer the important questions about Visas, namely:
- Do you send people out with Tourist Visas? (people are asserting that you do)
- Is it legal to work in China on a tourist Visa? (I believe it is illegal)
* You assert that you have always beek known as "Pod Travel & Teach", some points on this:
- There is no registered company called Pod Travel & Teach
- There is a Pod (GB) Ltd although this is currently flaggad as a "Dormant" company
- Are you the same "Vicky" who has answered posts on Yahoo re Pod (GB) and who claimed to be their office manager?
- Do you work for Pod (GB)? If so, I think it is wrong for you to claim that "We have always been and always will be known as POD Travel & Teach"
- If you don't work for Pod (GB), then who exactly do you work for?
- It would really help to establish your credentials if you answered these questions: silence is likely to be interpreted negatively of course...

Hi everyone, I recently applied to Pod Travel & Teach to teach English in China. I was told that I was successful and went to their office in Batley to meet some of their staff. The guy I spoke to seemed very young and new to the job and I wasn't completely convinced that he wasn't answering my questions by reading from a script. I was also a bit sceptical about the company ringing me from a mobile number. Nonetheless, I applied for a tourist visa as they advised me to and I've spent time and money getting ready to go. However, I've recently come across a few reviews of the company advising people to stay well away, reviews which I hadn't noticed before. I now don't know what to make of the company. I really want to do something worthwhile like teaching abroad but at the same time I'm starting to believe the negative reviews I've seen written and I'm not entirely convinced by Vicky's responses. I think she is a real person since the woman who interviewed me on the phone said she was Vicky but she has written pretty much exactly the same response to all the criticism to the company she works for and I just don't know whether I can trust this company enough to book my flights next week. I really do not know what to do for the best.

It is illegal to work in China on a Tourist Visa; if you want confirmation, simply call the Chinese Embassy's visa service in London. I strongly advise that before you spend any money on flights, ask Pod to put in writing, signed by an employee, that you can work on the Visa they are arranging. Also ask them to confirm in writing your exact rate of pay in China and any expenses or other deductions that will be made. A legitimate company should be more than happy to answer these points in writing.

This doesn't sound good Jennifer. I had the same feeling about the company I worked for last year, a company I and many others strongly suspect is now operating as POD Travel and Teach. Like Paladin says, it is illegal to work on a tourist visa in China, as is the case in just about every other country in the world. When I called them up a few weeks ago to see what they were like they sounded extremely susupect to me. Are you sure you really want to go half way around the world with a company like this??

My advice, do a TEFL qualification and then apply for jobs yourself, dont use an organisation like this.
