I found the information I was looking for - a background check on a friend - but the original price of $29.95 turned out to be closer to $80. After signing up, I had to pay $10 more for a criminal history check and then it turned out I didn't cancel my subscription in 3 days and they charged me again. Then, apparently, I had agreed to a free trial for another service that began charging me after 10 days. It was way too frustrating and expensive for the one piece of information I needed.

T N. i don't think there are any legitimate background check or people search sites. sorry to hear this! what about filing a dispute with your credit card company?

Jill C. It turned out that netdetective refunded all the money except the original $29.95 and $10.00 for the upgrade that I authorized. I only ended up with 3 days of access to the background check database - the information available for $29.95 can be found elsewhere on the web for free. Do you have any suggestions for doing background checks on people for less money?

T N. oof, i think pretty much any website is going to do the same thing to you. you might want to see how businesses or small businesses do it. i'm assuming you're doing this for personal reasons?

Total scam. I spent $30 to access records for a person I was searching for. I had the person's name, address and age. Zip - they wanted another $30 to find out more by "upgrading".
