First up the positives - I DID manage to contact a couple of musicians through this service so it is not a complete waste of space for the £15 it cost to register - but the subsequent behaviour of their "support staff" has lead me to warn potential users away from them.

NOW - the negatives -
1) The layout and mechanics of the site are clumsy, over-complex and hard to understand - it's got some stupid rules such as having to register as a band in order to contact an individual musician - cumbersome and unwieldy - that would be annoying enough on it's own but....

2) Unhelpful and unbelievably arrogant and high handed attitude on the part of the "support" staff - as a result of the crazy way their site is set up, I had to break the above rule in order to get in touch with an individual who I then went on to record with (I made it perfectly clear in my entry what I was doing so as not to mislead any other users). Result? I was blocked out of their site and issued with a demand to pay THEM a "handling fee" of more than £10 to get un-blocked! I regard this as a form of theft and there is no way they are getting another penny out of me for their petty and high handed attitude.

3) After getting blocked out by their "little-hitler" support staff there is no way in which you can contact them to make a complaint other than pay up their £10 unblocking fee - as I mentioned, there is no way in hell I am paying them as their behaviour in blocking me in the first place was unreasonable, high handed and morally (if not legally) questionable. All I did was find a way of getting round their clumsilly designed website in order to contact another musician and as a result they blocked me out, effectively robbing me of the services which I payed for up front and leaving me no course for redress other than to warn off other users on a website like this.

Conclusion??? - well, as mentioned previously, I DID manage to get in touch with a musician I was looking for BUT only by bending their stupid rules so that I could navigate round their clumsy website design (the guy I got in touch with totally agreed about the unwieldyness and clumsy design of the site). Their reaction to this was draconian to say the least - resulting in one p*ssed off musician being effectively ROBBED - I paid good money to use their service and I think I deserved better than to be denied the facilities paid for up front when my minor transgression was a direct result of the crappy and confusing website design I had to put up with for my money.
The website owners will claim that what they did to me is perfectly legal and all listed in their terms and conditions - personally I didn't have the time to wade through this weighty document when signing up (who does?) and trusted them to have the integrity one would expect of an inocuous service such as this.
Well - I was wrong to trust them and I would urge other musicians to look elsewhere when trying to contact other musos through the web - there's got to be better designed sites out there run by people who will not effectively rob you blind under the pretext of some obscure rulebook.

Dreadful tedious site, found on Google when trying to find a drummer for my band. No mention of a registration charge if you wish to browse drummers, after looooonnnnnng and irritating free registration (banned from putting anything in comments box other than 'I am a musician'), they then tell you if you want to look for other musicians, you have to pay £15! The pits. Avoid!

Dear musician,

I. SUBJECT OF OBJECTION

Type: Band-entry
Who: One-man entertainer
---: introducing
Whom:
Comment: Well established act with substantial interest from fans for live performances

II. INFORMATION

You have registered one or more entries on Musicians-in-your-City.
These entries violate the general terms and conditions of Musicians-in-your-City.

During registration you have accepted the general terms and conditions of Musicians-in-your-City.
As a precaution, you have been asked to observe these rules a second time while you registered the account.

Still you have violated these instructions.
In consequence, your account has been deactivated.

SUPPORT from Musicians-in-your-City

NO SUPPORT, NO CONTACT.

STAY AWAY = SCAM!!!!

This site has to be one of the worst I have ever used. Totally illogical and impractical (it was made by Germans for goodness sake!), it has no redeeming features, seems to have deliberately been made badly and hard to use. Registering was harder than that of a bank.

Now they have deactivated my account. I think this is a scam website. I will be challenging them for my money back. I have never in my life encountered a bunch of cretinous idiots like this and I will say to all STAY AWAY or they WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN!

Can't even contact them to complain. Will consider legal action and reporting to EU on top of everything else....

Great! Now I find that PayPal seems to protect them and won't help me dispute the annual feee, for which I have recieved three days of use.

If you are interested in helping me sue these bastards and get them shut down, please email me at baboonoverlord@gmail.com

I will be writing to the local MEP and launching an official complaint with the EU.

Please support me, I am sure you have had the same treatment. I am a highly technical and competent PC/web user and am sure that this site is a total fraud to extort people out of the ir money. PayPal's collusion is also noted!

Rage!

Who do these people think they are !? Shoddily presented website with no way to reply to the unhelpful and frankly insulting emails they send out. They actually inferred I was a liar when one of my collegues tried to confirm we are in the same band but was unable to deciper what it was that they wanted her to do in order to confirm this. Whilst setting up the registry of said band they placed so many restrictions on what I could in fact write that it was practically impossible to give any information about the band in the minimum amount of characters I was ordered to use. Then to top it all off, when I realised there was actually no way of contacting the administrators of this hapless joke of a website I politely pointed this out in my listing. I was then threatened with expulsion from the site. AND ALL OF THIS FOR A FRANKLY LUDICROUS FEE!

Avoid this website at all costs, these idiots do not deserve to be allowed to breathe the same air as we do.

Clumsy, difficult to navigate, useless (non-existant) support, don't waste your time or money. So many better sites out there. They should at least get it translated properly...

This is the worst musician site I have ever encountered. It is near impossible to understand. They ask for your mobile number so they can send a text with a code which I never rec'd even though I did it 4 times!!! There is no help or support. They keep sending me emails saying I haven't completed registration?? Use Joinmyband site its much better or Bandmix

Unbelievably bad. I can only think this is a scam - there is a suspiciously large number of apparently suitable musicians close to me for a start! It is literally almost impossible to actually follow their rules: for a start you have to put a 'comment' about yourself - but there'e no guidance on what the comment should be, and a huge list of 'forbidden' words - like 'band' for instance!!! From there it's downhill. I want a lead guitarist for an esisting band. To put an advert up, every single member of the band needs to go through the agony that is registration - and every single one has to go thru the whole ridicolous process. After you think you're done (maybe 24 hours later), you get emails from them telling you you've used the wrong word somewhere in your details etc and you've go to go back and redo it. I've never been completely defeated by a mere website before! Don't touch with a barge pole - the idea of them getting my bank details is scary!

musicians-in-your-city.co.uk is a complete useless site and rubbish site. First, it asked you to tell it about yourself as a musician before you can advertise. Once you have done this you then can create an advert. So I am a musician who is looking for a female vocalist! Once you have got past the 50 words about yourself – which can't contain this or that words… you finally create as it states your advert only so find out 1 hour later you get a message:
II. INFORMATION
You have registered one or more entries on Musicians-in-your-City.
These entries violate the general terms and conditions of Musicians-in-your-City.
YES – BECAUSE YOUR $#*!ING SYSTEM SAID I NEEDED TO CREATE A PROFILE OF MYSELF BEFORE I COULD PUT UP AN ADVERT – Only me registered so what the $#*! you are talking about!
Complete $#*!ed up site that is waste of internet space… people who run this site need a hole in the head. Avoid and go down your local music shop and advertise it will be much faster!

Quite astonishingly bad - Tried to register several times but always got a dialogue box saying I'd used a wrong word in the description box (one of the errant words was 'point') The rest of it is just as unfathomable. I didn't even realise until looking on jabber that it's a pay to use site so at least I didn't get as far as giving paypal details. The problem now is musicians-in-your-city has my email and keep sending me junk, OK it is filtered as spam but I still can't rid myself of these morons. DO NOT USE!

I signed up to this site about 18 months ago when I was looking for a bass player and drummer.

There was no mention of fees until the last second so I thought I would give it a go). Having gone through the rigmarole of searching listings etc, I finally got presented with a payment request. For a site that looks little more than an MSword document, I was certainly not going to pay for this nonsense.

So off I went to look elsewhere. Sadly, ever since, I have been spammed on about a fortnightly basis and each time I block their pointless e-mails but they still somehow get through my spam filter.

I have to laugh at their fake testimonials that roll round on the homepage. They have obscurely named people such as "Steve T" praising this garbage site! These mean nothing at all, since the site owner can simply stick on positive comments (the contents of which seem suspiciously worded to pick up traffic from browsers) and pretend they are from site users.

Total garbage and having read the above comments, I am so glad I did not waste my cash! AVOID!

A dreadful website designed by people who are terrible website designers and probably terrible musicians too. No attempt has been made to make the site useable (tiny little text boxes and ridiculous submission rules) or useful (multiple registrations required for you as a musician or band if you want to contact others, individual entries required for each member you seek - remember all of this done through their awful interface and restrictive submission rules).

If you wish to have any form of anonymity forget it as they ask for name, address, date of birth and home phone number. Their database must be a stalkers delight!

When you're trying to find musicians, I suppose this could be a great site, since only the most determined will complete the entire soul-destroying process. Me, I cancelled my registration immediately, preferring to get on with my life and write some music.

Absolutely appalling and totally user unfriendly. What an insult for musicians. They should be closed down as there is no support offered. Disgusting!

Extremely poor doesn't even cover it! I concur with all the other reviews
poor design, expensive, hard to use, anal teutonic site managers who can't contacted.
Save yourself and lot of wasted time and go elsewhere.

This website shouldn't even be named a website, its totally crap, once you pay the registration fee , thats game over, I met no musicians on this, it seems to me they caught a few people years back and kept their details up and those people have forgotten they even signed up, everyone I did get details for werent interested in meeting any other musicians , two people told me "you have the wron 'numba', " total waste of time and disappointing, I would advise anyone to keep away from it.

I agree completely with all the reviews above and would also like to mention the intrusive, not to mention suspicious questions asked of all the members of our existing band. In my naivety and in the hope of obtaining contact with other musicians, I followed the website's instructions and gave five email addresses which I assumed would lead to a simple confirmation from the other members, to prove that I wasn't some kind of stalker of unsuspecting and innocent musicians. The reality seems to be that the website is set up to collect personnal and confidential information on as many people as possible. Luckily most of the contacts I entered, found the experience so frustrating that they decided to abort before giving home addresses and 'phone numbers. Why would this kind of website need this information on EVERY MEMBER of a band? Consequently I spent £15 of our subs and have received no contacts at all even though I can read at least two entries from people in our area who might just fit our requirements and I'm getting emails from the website every couple of hours telling me of FAILED ATTEMPTS at contact because we are not a recognised band according to Musicians In Your City...etc. I would advise anyone to steer very clear of of this site. Unfortunately it's very likely that the reason you're reading this is that you've already had a problem!

I am a web designer who has worked with 'user journey' sites, and this one fails on every count. It is highly prescriptive - there are 'objectionable' and 'illegal' terms that you are not warned about but which trigger a rude and abrupt warning if you include them, after you click 'next'. They don't tell you how many letters you need to type - causing another rude warning. Their emails are rude... (is there a theme here?).

Extract from their email to me:

You have registered one or more entries on Musicians-in-your-City.
Your entries violate the general terms and conditions of
Musicians-in-your-City. The objectionable entries show
a red exclamation mark in your personal manager.

Please correct your entries and make sure you comply
with the general terms and conditions in the future.

It speaks for itself. I feel strongly that apart from the operational difficulties for the user (there should be a maximum of three steps to get going), the site was designed by people who not only fail to understand their market, but also don't speak English as a first language. This would be forgivable if it was acknowledged. But as indicated above, there is a tone of arrogance and disdain in their messages, warning and communications.

After trying to register twice, I gave up, having received uncountable warnings about being deactivated.

The most frustrating and pointless website I have ever had the displeasure to come across.
Within 10 minutes I had to use all of my self restraint to stop myself from smashing my laptop into a 1000 pieces.
The basic concept of meeting other musicians in your locality is great, but the execution is so unbelievably inept it makes you want to cry within minutes.
As already mentioned by other reviewers, this is not the worst part of it.....
The insulting and frankly pompous tone of the site 'administrators' is seriously wrong, and if you haven't already got steam coming out of your ears, the constant nagging, threatening insults will have your tearing out your hair....
I guess this site must have been designed and written by an 'iT Crowd' type Geek, who got bullied at school and now wants to have his revenge on all the Cool Musicians or something. I can't think of any other reason why someone would want to make such a relatively simple process so much of a nightmare !
Steer Well Clear and save yourself the grief !

I'm SOOOO fustrated at this website for not being able to give 0 out of 4.

musicians-in-your-city is the worst website ive ever come across in my life. i mean seriously.. lol ive never written a review on anything or knew that this kind of site existed but im so glad they do so i can save anyone else the waste of time that i had trying to use this site.

- First of all through the registration you have to agree to all these silly things otherwise your account will be DEACTIVATED!! (oh the horror!!) I've not done anything yet and they way they are talking is so strict its like trying to sign up to the FBI's central intelligence mainframe..

- then when signing up you will out the WHOLE form and get to the comment section which is about 150 Characters long.. however.. here are the rules.........

ATTENTION:
It is not allowed to enter any contact information, such as name, phone number, email address, band name, homepage, links, manufacturers, age, date indications or pad characters in the comment field. Failure to observe these notes will lead to deactivation of the account.

• You play several instruments? Create a separate 'introducing' entry for each instrument!
• Do not indicate what you are looking for in the comment field
• details about your band, e.g. band experience, stage experience,
band membership, band instrumentation are not allowed in the comment line!
These details will be displayed automatically provided that you have registered your band
• If you are looking for musicians, go to 'musicians entries' afterwards to create a new 'is looking for' entry
• If your band is looking for musicians, go to 'band entries' afterwards to create a new 'is looking for' entry

• Indicate your aims in music
• Indicate for how long you've been making music
• Indicate what type and style of music you play or want to play
• Indicate whether you're a beginner, amateur or professional

-> Please make your comment interesting and meaningful to others
-> Important for producers: create an additional entry as soundtechnician/composer/arranger (if applicable)!

...... After 8 or 9 attempts after it telling me i can't use words like 'Group' or 'Rehearsal Room' or even forward slashes i gave up and just put 'Recording Studio' only for to to tell me it MUCH be at least 50 characters!! :O OH NOES!! so i just put multiple full stops... only for it to tell me I've use TOO MANY CAPITAL LETTERS!! i used ONE!... god knows what it would think of this post.... or indeed their own rules section...

The Cherry on the cake on this one is everytime you click submit, it takes you to the next page to wait to tell you that something is wrong... and THEN when, inevitably, it is.. the back button doesn't work!! so you have to fill out the whole form again!!

how anybody is on this sight i don't know!

ALL I WANT IS CONTACT DETAILS OF MUSICIANS LOCAL TO ME! how they have managed to make this so hard is mind boggling! after 45 mins or so on the sight having got nowhere and no contact details I've given up...

REMOVE THIS SIGHT FROM THE INTERNET FOR THE SAKE OF OUR SANITY!

peace..

Please help me sue the pants off these con-artist $#*!s!

Email me at baboonoverlord@gmail.com and let's stop them in their tracks.

Thanks,

Simon.
