I navigated to Grooveshark and took a few minutes to figure out the controls. Three hours later, I'm still listening. I love lots of different types of music from alternative to top 40 to country to classical and I have been pretty content with their choices for me. It's really easy to mark favorites, things you don't like and replay anything you wanna here a hundred times. Skipping to the next song is awesome. Because even though I love the Plain White T's I might not be in the mood for Hey There Delilah for the millionth time. At this time, I don't need any of their subscription options (for mobile), listening on my computer is all I need. Good music site.

This page is breathtaking... It may be outwardly somewhat pallid textwise, but where else can you tap in any artist and a second later, you are happily presented with the (free) FULL playable version of near every track they have made? With most browsers you will find the sound quality is perfectly respectable. Of course live performances are never so much fun I find. Last Fm is useful merely for children in comparison.

grooveshark.com is a great site for streaming music, and unlike pandora, you have control over your playlists and don't have to deal with their algorithms that occasionally do things like throw a Missy Elliott track in with your Iron & Wine playlist. If someone recommends a track or artist to me these days, I always check out grooveshark for a quick listen before making a commitment to buying the album.

It's also a great way to get introduced to new music, heres something I do at work if I want some variety and am sick of the stuff on my ipod: Go to grooveshark.com, type in "NPR" or "all songs considered", and select "add all" to your playlist. You'll get a bunch of really really cool stuff in your queue and have days worth of material to go through before you get bored or hear the same thing twice!

A very easy to use music sharing site. It integrates well, broadcast what you're listening to, with Twitter, Facebook and StumbleUpon!

It is everything that you would look for in an online music site --- easy to use interface, great music collection, playlists, sharing playlists, friends (wow) and much much more. The music clarity is also brilliant. I have a blog and found it worthwhile writing about it's feature. Check it out -- http://krishrao.com/?p=200

You won't be disappointed. The site rocks!

This is a very well-stocked music player and streaming radio setup, with the added goodies of a desktop app (Adobe Air required), a player for your smartphone, and customizable playlist widgets for your website or blog if you have one. The default skin for the site is bright and inviting, and as the feature layout places almost all the options exactly where you would expect to find them or would like to find them if you're used to other music interfaces, you won't be aimlessly hunting around for your music unless you choose to. The music player interface is excellent and allows you to skip through tracks, which some sites don't.

Being just a touch Web 2.0, the interface begins by offering helpful text tips which appear as you use new areas of the site. Mercifully these can be dismissed permanently with a single click, if you're already an ace at navigating, and nothing else pops up or fades in to irritate you.

I assume there are graphical ads here, but I can't see them with Firefox and Adblock Plus running. However, on arrival I couldn't fail to notice one line of text in the bottom right hand corner, which read "Apply For Financial Aid". I assume it was a text ad, or maybe they just know me a lot better than I might have expected.

There are all the expected community features, and paid "VIP" membership brings you an ad-free environment and lots more goodies for only a $3 a month subscription until December of 2010, when the price goes up. Grab it at the current price beforehand, though, and you get it at that price for life. You'll get a ridiculously huge 5000-song playlist and library of up to 50,000 tracks, scrobbling and access to new features and more.

If you opt to let the site select your music from a channel for you, it seems you may get a very high quality but somewhat unexpected selection. I'm not complaining about Leonard Cohen turning up in the "rock" stream, it's just that I could use a warning beforehand so that I can hide sharp objects in case I feel like ending it all before the end of the track. As for the sound quality, that's really very good for a stream, maybe the best I've heard on a low-bandwith, slow connection; a little "toppy" in my Bose earbuds, and compressed, of course, but not unpleasantly and far less than I would have expected for an MP3 stream. It will give your iPod a run for its (great deal of) money.

The range of titles here is superb. And there are no copyright issues, as Grooveshark pays the artists for all the plays their tracks receive. It will take down tracks if there are copyright or performing rights worries from the artists, but it states that it would much prefer to pay an artist than remove his work. Seems sensible to me. There is also an Artist membership which allows performers to upload their work and get paid for it, and there are other encouragements for artists to spread the word and get involved.

I did read somewhat about this site before visiting, which is just as well, as I found it harder than it ought to have been to find all the information about its many features. Despite the claim that the minimum screen size requirement is 1024 x 768, a textual link gets overlaid by its neighbor at that resolution and as it turned out, the hidden link just happened to be "Help". So I rooted around in puzzlement for a long time until I hit on the information I was looking for by accident. A minor thing, though. Other requirements are minimal, a 1Ghz processor, Flash 9 and some sort of DSL connection seem to be all you need to get a solid, good quality stream.

I really liked this one, and was surprised at how easy it was to find good music at good quality and run the whole deal on an old laptop and a slow connection.

Grooveshark has a user-friendly interface and a good assortment of songs that can be played outside of the United States. Even with my shoddy internet connection, the songs play pretty smoothly. I can find all the bands I like from the Magnetic Fields to Wolf Parade to Camera Obscura. Although the collections aren't complete, recommendations for other tracks are fairly solid, though somewhat predictable. I still have a preference for last.fm because of its sleek design and information about bands but would probably go to grooveshark first to try out any tracks I hear about.
