CONGRATS ICQ... FOR THE WORST SERVICE EVER!
Don't waste your internet on this website, worst connection, worst interface... and very bad privacy issues!
Suffered a year using this bad app, and then was surprised yesterday all my calls and messages logs were saved into their services (even those I deleted!). And can be used "when needed for security issues"! REALLY!
For people who care about privacy, delete the app... truly angry!

This is a stupid program. It's so hard to sign up me and my friend have been trying for half an hour. I search contact with her email and phone number and she doesn't come up.
I can't add my email address which isn't linked to my account. I keep going around in a loop.

The true value of early ICQs 98a/b was that you locate people and make friends by; Gender, Age, Country, City or towns. All that seems to have vanished now with the later versions (and owners) of ICQ. I guess the older 98 versions were too good to last.

Please go back to the older version that everyone loved! This is ridiculous. Everyone wants the is trying to keep you going, hoping you will go back to it. But you are going to loose it all.

A great messenger that unfortunately got out of date compared to technologies of today... But thanks for the connected childhood, guys ;)

I've been with ICQ a very long time (since not long after it first started). At this point I am considering ICQ 10 as a form of virus/cyber attack. I had been using version 8.4 for a while because all the older versions quit working when these jerks took over. Recently, it has started constantly installing version 10 onto my machine without permission and without even asking. It will install 10 while you're running version 8. If you have the installer in any of the normal places things go to (Downloads folder for example), 10 will erase your installer for 8. I have to keep it in a totally unrelated folder on a jump drive to keep it from being erased.

At this point, I am considering my system compromised and I'm going to talk to a tech friend of mine to see if she knows how to get rid of this bull$#*!.

Used to love this site years ago. Tried to reconnect w/ some ppl I know abroad by looking them up on ICQ but... first you need to download the software, then you cannot use your old number by asking for lost password unless you remember the old number. You must start from scratch and get a new number. This means you've lost your old contacts. Which defeats the purpose of using it again. No wonder fb took over so easily.

I've used this program since 2000. I tried to set it up for a customer to use as inter-office chat but now they require a text to a cell phone to validate a new account. It used to require only an email address which I thought was reasonable.

Seems icq was bought by a company in russia. A company that clearly does not use any english, nor respond to user problems... how stupid is this?

You see, the problems with this site is that: One, you can't edit your profile online. You got to download the ICQ Program. Next, there are spammers and scammers on the chatroom and all over ICQ like no website I ever used before. And finally the Chat Staff are Politically Correct Totalitarian Dictators. I can't really see one thing good about ICQ at all. Sorry, I just can't.

My open letter questions for ICQ

I recently made a new ICQ account and in making the new ICQ account I only used a valid working Email to activate the account.

Since that day I made that account I have not been able to access it nor use the ICQ messenger.

I very recently changed the pass word to this account and the ICQ web page told me to use my Email and new pass word to log in.

I tried to log into the ICQ messenger and it would not allow me to log in with the new pass word.

This is a new account so why should I even have to consider getting a new pass word to make the account work?

Is IQC being deceitful and not properly informing its uses that they are required to use a working active cell phone to receive a code?

I completed and changed my pass word and then tried using my new password and it did not work. Why does my new password not work?

If anyone that works for The ICQ Team decides to respond to this I want your name and an Email address of the person handling my ICQ issue.

I have sent more than one complaint ticket to ICQ about my junk ICQ account that does not work.

Thus far no one at ICQ has really gotten to the bottom of why it is my ICQ messenger does not work nor have I received any real answers as to why my ICQ account does not work.

ICQ was the pioneer of the chat systems along with mIRC. Yet it turned out that the conversations via ICQ are easy logged and with the rise of Skype many people switched over hoping that the P2P protocol of Skype will allow for more privacy. While I consider that a myth nowadays I rarely stumble on people who are still using their ICQ accounts.

I still use icq messenger from time to time, although I don't use this way of communication anymore. But icq remained the best program of this type for me, leaving far behind msn messenger and other similar programs. Cute and has its own spirit. Recommended.

ICQ is pretty much the first internet chat system and I used it back in the late 90s as there was nothing else available. People who played online games back in the day had no "chat" available to them so we would use ICQ to play games like chess online and be able to chat with your opponent. AOL bought ICQ and it hasn't been as popular as it once was... Yahoo IM pretty much beat them in terms of popularity by the widespread use of emoticons and other fun features. Still a great program.

Just started using ICQ and found this to be better than Yahoo IM and it interfaces with all of the popular IM out there. Best part is ICQ for the iPhone which is why I really started using this program.
