“This is the absolute worse auction house I have ever...”

Teresa P.
12/17/14

This is the absolute worse auction house I have ever been to in my 20 years of auctions. First and last time I will ever go there! Heres how the night went: Auction house apparently had brand new software and had decided to start taking online bids for the very first time at this auction we went to. No one except the auctioneer remotely seemed to know what they were doing, how the software worked or how the online bidding worked. Auction house had a line to get a bid number when we arrived and it moved slow since the older ladies had no clue how to use the new software. We got there in plenty of time but because of the wait in the line, we were not able to look at all the items we were interested in an ask questions to the auctioneer. My husband attempted to ask the auctioneer (Wendy) questions a couple of times; she refused, was rude and made nasty comments to the crowd. We inspected glass we wanted to bid on. Some had damage to it that was not disclosed. When the pieces were brought up, there was no mention of the obvious damage. When my husband brought that up and asked were chips and damage going to be disclosed to the crowd and online bidders. Auctioneer said he should have asked before the auction started and refused to answer. We couldnt do that because of the line to get a bid number. Auctioneer was rude, mean and making nasty comments to the crowd when my husband would complain. I feel sorry for those online bidders. They are going to receive glass that was already broken before it ever left the auction house. My husband bid on different items, auctioneer would call he had the won the piece, then go back and say she had an online bid; he would have to bid higher to get the piece. Auction rules on auctionzip were clear; bidders on the floor had precedence. This was not being done until after my husband called them out on it. When we went to pay for the few things we won, they had everything mixed up. They held the pieces until you paid. We paid; they brought us one piece that we did not bid on. A lady walked up and indicated the wrong piece belonged to her. She had our piece. A male employee walked up as the cashier was trying to straighten things out. He gave the lady the wrong piece we had but refused to give us the piece we bid on, saying it was tagged with a different number. He was hateful and nasty to both of us. We finally said just give us our money back on the piece. As we paid, went outside to leave, this male employee was outside smoking. He followed us to our car (on the far side of the prk/lt) and accused my husband of saying something mean and nasty to his 15 yr. Old son who was also working at the auction, he was actually tagging sold items and was probably the one who got things messed up so we got the wrong stuff in addition to a couple of other folks. My husband never even spoke to this kid the entire time we were at the place. This male employee then threatened to "kick my husband's (another word for butt)" and began hitting his fist on our car. THIS PLACE IS SHADY AT BEST! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE BUYERS! Through folks we have known from years of going to auctions, buyer grapevine is saying this group was run out of VA for bad auction practices. ATTEND AND BID AT THIS PLACE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
