I purchased a set of Christmas cards from Guideposts & they arrived in a plain white envelope damaged. The edges were bent. There was no protection of the cards - tossed in an envelope. If I wanted a refund I had to pay the postage to return the cards - otherwise I would receive another set in 3 weeks. I contacted customer service 3 times with no resolution. Fir an allegedly Christian organization they are mean, unhelpful, & do not care about thr customer.

Tip for consumers:
That this company does not have customer support or stand by what it sells & has inferior packaging.

I have emailed, written numerous letters, etc to stop sending mail to my home address, stop emails etc yet they keep sending me these things, just got mail again the last two weeks and yesterday 8/31/2021 and again today. Really sick of being ignored by this company. I will never ever order anything from them again! As stated in my letyers, emails I will mail everything back to them as I have been doing for the the last few weeks. Really tired if this company what do they not understand?!
I purchased a pair of pants $ 168. They only have one length - very long. I don't like rolled up pants so I returned them. It has been a month since they received the return and they charged me $9 return postage plus their original shipping charge of $18.00. They still have not credited my card for the purchase.

Despite claiming to be a "Christian" company Guidepost is anything but. They are still sending solicitations to my DECEASED mother. I have taken her off their mailing list, registered her with the "Deceased Do Not Contact List, and returned hundreds of their junk solicitations. This is the ultimate in disrespect. I had to put 1 star but my actual rating is ZER0 STARS. Absolutely never get involved with this company.
What has happened to Guideposts? For over 20 years now they were the top inspirational magazine, just above Readers Digest. Well I went to renew my annual today, and discovered they lowered the 12 month to a 6 month. But same cover price! Talk about ridiculous. And according to other longtime subscribers, this is a most unwelcomed and disappointing switch. What a pity, because it was a terrific magazine.

I am Roman Catholic and did not realize that Guideposts was otherwise. I am into the sixth month of a one-year subscription and five others to family. So, I get two reminders to renew my subscriptions with six months to go. I am supporting about 30 other organizations who have less than I do. So, if it is all the same to you, I will disregard the renewal notices at this time. The magazine is helpful but a little too mawkish for my taste regarding spiritual progress. Sounds haughty, but there you are. I have no pics and am 79, dependent on a CPU, landline and typewriter and still struggling as a sinner. Maybe my gift subscribers will write in and say different; it is all a matter of taste, we are all striving for the same eternal end. And I expect some people will disagree, which is also helpful. God bless everyone in these troubled times.
Tip for consumers:
For me, it was the Catholic vs. general approach to spirituality...

If I could give them no star, I would. I will never order anything from them again. In mid June 2021, I ordered two books. There was no mention that the books were out of stock. I called on July 15 to be told is would be shipped out in two weeks. Still no books. I called August 2 to be told it was shipped out on July 29. I ordered the books in mid June and now it is August and no books. All I have gotten was excuses and lies. You would think a Christian publishing company would be more ethical.

I really didn't understand this was not a private comment to the company.
I ordered a devotional on 10/31/19 and didn't received by 1/12/20 so I asked for a refund. As of 2/12/20 I still don't have it on my PayPal. I have contacted them by email and phone and get a different story such as I was sent a refund on 1/14/20 or on 2/11/20 my PayPal was credited and from this point on I should contact PayPal. It was a small amount of money unless they are doing this to a lot of customers. Stay Away! If I could give them less than 1 star I would. This is the first time I've ever written a bad review about a company.
It's easy to buy from Guideposts... but good luck trying to return something! They show an icon of a telephone, but when you click on that, you get an email address to which they never respond. And if you go to their 'live chat' and type your question, you get a canned response... nothing 'live' about it. There is no way to get a hold of a REAL customer service rep. In short, Guideposts is not customer-friendly at all. I will think twice before ordering from them again.
I ordered a daily devotional book on 12/9/19. As of 1/10/20 I hadn't received it. I spoke to a rep who told me they'd resend it and I'd receive it in the mail by 1/31/20. I never received it. Today, 2/3/20, I called asking for a refund. I was told I'd ordered an e-book, which I still didn't receive, although the last rep I spoke to told me it was coming in the mail. Let's see how long it take me to get my refund. They've got some serious problems within their company.
As for ME and my house ( non-denominational Christian) we seek truth. Some Guidepost material does not line up with Scripture. It is slight but that is a slippery slope. I think the foundation has good and Godly intentions to inspire and encourage. Maybe need to edit/review material more carefully?
Inspirational daily messages. I like the King James version of the Bible over the NKJV and the NIV that they use.
I ordered daily email devotionals and never received any. They charged my account and repeated efforts to get my charges reimbursed went unanswered. Needless to say, they got my money but I received no product. Then, they notified me that I would be getting a 2021 planner which I did not request so I replied that I didn't want it. They replied that I could return it. I have a hunch I will once again be charged for an item I am not keeping. Worst company ever!
Guideposts has resorted to commercialism and false advertising. It has also fallen into the hands of idiocy. HUGE disappointment! The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. One of those hands needs to be chopped off!
Tip for consumers:
If you only want the magazine - and not what they falsely advertise to go with the subscription ...

I ordered and paid for a booklet called 60 Days of Prayer, supposed to be delivered every other month and out of 3 issues, only 1 came on time.
Guidpost is supposed to be a Christian organization. Its not! They took money off my account because of an order. I did not order anything from them! They said that they couldn't refund my money unless I returned the book; which I haven't not received. I want my MONEY!
Seems your organization has not learned its lesson.
I sent an email to all branches of your organization to remove my mother from your mailing list on February 23,2023.
I warned you what would happen if you persisted, but your organization has not listed so let me refresh your memories.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN!
IT SEEMS YOUR ORGANIZATION DOES NOT SEEM TO GET THE CONCEPT OF WHAT CANCELED MEANS...MY MOTHER CANCELLED HER SUBSCRIPTION! I MYSELF CALLED AND HAD IT CANCELLED IN THE YEAR 2021 WHEN YOU SENT HER TWO LETTERS BACK-TO-BACK DEMANDING HER TO PAY YOU. ONE LETTER CAME AND WAS PAID. THEN A WEEK LATER CAME ANOTHER LETTER AND WAS PAID AGAIN. I CALLED AND DEMANDED A REFUND BE ISSUED TO MY MOTHER AND THE ACCOUNT CLOSED THE WOMAN ON THE AT YOUR ORGANIZATION SAID THE REFUND WOULD BE SENT OUT AND THE ACCOUNT WOULD BE CLOSED.
NOW YOU HAVE BEEN SENDING RENEWAL LETTERS TO MY MOTHER YET AGAIN... THEY HAVE GONE INTO THE RIPPER TO BE CUT INTO SMALL ITTY-BITTY PIECES!
REMOVE MY MOTHER FROM YOUR MAILING LIST OR THIS WILL GO VIRAL ACROSS THE WEB THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION IS PREYING ON THE ELDERLY...
REMOVE AND CANCEL THE FOLLOWING: (mothers' information)
SINCERELY,
REV. LANCE E. O'CONNER
I received confirmation from one of your organizations branch that her name and address was removed from your organizations mailing list yet today September 11,2023, you sent another one of your letters. (see attached image) Upon receiving your letter I wrote on the letter "Refused, return to sender and you were told to remove from mailing list in 2023".
I will be sending this out across the web about the Guidepost organization trying to pull the same underhanded tactics they have done for years against the elderly. I know about the multiple complaints against your organization for pulling these underhanded tactics.
Sincerely,
Reverend Lance E. O'Conner--

On February 23, 2023, this Organization tried to bill again and was sent a massive email to all branches of the Organization. To CANCEL the account and remove from mailing list. Which they confirmed they did via email. Today September 11, 2023, they sent another mail with their booklet. Which was promptly refused and returned to sender. Another mass email was sent to the Organization to remove from mailing list and cancel any and all accounts for my mother; My mother is 79 years of age and they

Bought the book a few years back and found that it is missing chapters 22,23, and beginning of chapter 24. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem. They can't help me because I waited too long. Hopefully I can purchase another book from someone else and won't have this happen again.
Customer service is at best, HORRIBLE! This is my first and LAST time ordering from this company. They don't show a purchase on my account, although I received conformation of item shipped. Also, money has been taken from my bank.
They were unable to produce any shipping details although I paid for first class shipping, which is connected with a tracking number that they can't find.
I will give it a few days. Good thing I used PayPal.

Received purchase as described, so I will raise my rating to a 3... although I still stand that the customer service needs to be improved.
I will also continue to monitor my bank account for any unauthorized debits, which has been a problem with others.

I ordered three of the 2021 All God's Creatures Daily Devotionals for Christmas presents last year. (2020)
As I was looking at my bank statement (October 2021) I noticed a charge of $68.20 from Guideposts. I called to see why I was charged. I knew I hadn't ordered anything since last year. They said that the BOOKS I ordered last year were an automatic renewal. I had no idea! It must've been in microscopic print because I would've never ordered them if I'd known that. I never received any notification that I was being charged, or that I was getting more books.
While I was talking to the Customer Service Representative I told them I didn't order books, and I don't want the books. The Guidepost CSR said that the books were in the warehouse and would ship in 4-6 weeks, and when I got them I could return them for my refund!
So to be clear I was charged for books sitting in a warehouse somewhere, that I didn't order, and they took my money out of my account without my knowledge, and there was NOTHING I could do to get my money back until I received those books, mailed them back, and THEN I can be refunded MY money!
Ridiculous! Do better Guideposts! Christian based company's should do/be better ethically! I'm so disappointed in you.
I never subscribed to this foundation and yet I have been receiving numerous pieces of mail from them. It's always the same old thing. Requests for donations.
I am not religious at all and I have contacted them several times asking them to stop sending me solicitations. I was told that it would take a few weeks before my address was removed from their system but I continue to receive their mail. They don't even know my actual name.
In each envelope they send two Christmas cards both filled with scriptures from the Bible. They expect everyone to send these to family and friends. I do not celebrate Christmas and have nothing to do with my family at all. My friends are not religious nor do they celebrate Christmas. They would think I had lost my mind if I sent them Christmas cards.
I don't know what it takes to stop this mail but I want it to stop.

Guideposts used to be a really great magazine. Whether it was in the time just after World War Two or in the 80s or 90s, it could be counted on to provide genuine human stories of courage, difficulty and hope. I'm not sure what happened--maybe it became more commercial (there are so many ads even though it's a non-profit) or maybe the editorship changed for the worse--but today the stories are sappy, more overtly evangelical and just not as good. Worse still, you can't order back issues to get the good stuff. I'd skip Guideposts today.
We have never subscribed and have had the hardest time getting these to stop coming to us. Really frustrating!
I ordered a CD from Guideposts and paid online. They cancelled the order with no explanation, then only refunded HALF of the purchase price. When I called to ask what was going on, they told me it would take 2 WEEKS to get the rest of my money refunded.
This company used to be so trustworthy but no more.
Connecting people with uplifting stories of comfort and hope, prayer, and tools for faithful, positive living.
