“Fraud and attempted shaming”

John S.
6/25/16

Gay.com renews your subscription "automatically", and when you try to cancel it, will cancel, but continues to charge your credit card the amount for the next year. Worse, when I disputed the charge with the company, gay.com tried to shame me by sending "documentation" with all the details of my account, pictures, etc to the credit card company. I will not be shamed and I'm still disputing the charge, but I am disgusted with how this site preys on the gay community and tries to go back to 1950's era shaming. It's sickening.

As some others I had some problems with Gay.com when they charged my credit crad over and over again even if I canceled my membership!

The site, however, is not just 1stars out of 5. I dont know why people always give 5 stars or 1star, there has got to be something in between. The site is NOT perfect, but it is ok. I found a much better site where i was much more lucky with but that does not mean that Gay.com is 100% trash.

Just my two cents...

People ONLY write reviews when they are NOT happy and than they only give 1star or a "VERY POOR"... that ain't fair, in my opinion.

Used to be a great site, where I met great people for friendship and fun. Now there's nothing left to offer customers. I don't know what they were thinking.

Where do I begin on how HORRIBLE this site is...

When I joined approx 8+ months ago, it was never up and/or didn't work (posting a msg never went through (as a work around I would always copy my text so I could easily re-paste vs type again. Sometimes it would take 3-5 times to re-paste to get the post to accept.

Then when I contacted support well over a dozen times - I still to t his day never got a response. Andy they want me to pay for premium membership for what reason?

Finally i'm SICK and TIRED of the fake profiles. You know the ones that say they are in the U.S. but in actuality in another country or the profiles that say (for a guy) they are 5'10" and 110 lbs!. They are FAKES FRAUDS and SCAMMERS

I'm very close to just deleting my profile all together.

This site is a colossal WASTE of time!

gay.com has become a waste of space on the web. It was once a community, full of local chat rooms and friends and realtime get-togethers. Gay.com thinks they have abdicated responsibility by making the message boards (no chat rooms anymore) "member generated." It will be interesting to see if this is ever tested in a court of law as there are far too many deviants (incest, pedophilia) trolling the site and spewing their disgusting wants.

This site used to be great, upwards of 10,000 people online at one time, now if there's 100 it's a lot. Nothing works consistently, if you're in a chatroom, some days the chat scrolls, some days it doesn't and you have to refresh all the time. Sometimes if you're in a private chat messages appear and other times you have to refresh the page, you never know if it's working. Lately IE keeps crashing on this site only. Nnow, today June 8th, the whole site is done AGAIN! Looking for another site, I've had it with them. I feel sorry for the people who paid money to join it

This website is designed totally stupid and whoever designed it is an idiot. I hated the prior version of this site, but the current version is even worse. It's not a chat room anymore, it's nothing more than a message board, and that is providing the site actually works. I still can't believe people "buy" a premium membership on this POS website. It only gives you the ability to look at premium pictures and the ability to see who browsed your profile and you can profiles annonymously. WHO WOULD PAY FOR THAT!

Gay.com has been on a downward spiral since the site overhaul in 2013 but the past few months/weeks/days have been atrocious - the site gets worse by the day. Nothing works properly - takes forever to log in, the chat rooms do not scroll, messages do not appear, the site requires constant "refreshing" then freezes or crashes altogether. Given the crappy design and poor performance, the threat of viruses and adware is another concern. Best alternative: the UK site, GAYDAR: http://www.gaydar.net

I truly don't even know where to begin except by saying if I could give negative stars, I would. This site is the absolute worst. It used to be quite good until some IT jackwagon decided they wanted to make their mark by changing it all up. I can guarantee this is the only job they will ever have if this is the best they can come up with. Sloppy graphics that don't load correctly or don't load at all. Bloatware everywhere slowing down the site so bad it's like having dial up again.
And I can't believe they still have a "premium" membership if you want to pay for it (and what complete idiot would pay for something this bad?)
They took a good site and totally ruined it.

Tip for consumers:
PLEASE don't even waste your time.

For 2 days now, gay.com has been almost impossible to login and if i was able to, the pages to forever to load and impossible to send messages. Wtf here media? I can't believe you all want to charge a premium membership for this crap. I would give it negative starts if that was available. Even when you're able to login the chat room messages never update, you have to refresh the page every minute; when it shows a member is online, most of the time that isn't true. They need to fire the IT staff. Grade school kids could do a much better job.
I am going to go to mygay.net - the chat program is way better than this crap

July proved to be the worst month for the site! Down for at least half the month and half functional. THEY ZAPPED ALL HISTORY AND CONTACTS TO ZERO! They hold our credit cards in LIMBO. Time for a class action suet since McCain killed the original CHAT!

gay.com charged me an annual fee to my credit card for an account I cancelled 5 years ago. I complained and they basically told me since I contacted the the charge they still had to charge me a month. I disputed it with the credit card company and they denied what they had told me. The credit card company recharged me the $89.99. They are obviously hurting resorting to these tactics

They bought out planet out an awesome chat and friends browsing site and then they changed the gay.com format booting gayboi. Org and other neat programs. Now I guess its about hooking up and a person can create a chat room there is LA room. I guess I will check back once in awhile just to see. People do this kinda stuff all the time if its not broken don't fix it.

Once again, with the latest upgrade, they have made the site even harder to negotiate and the chat rooms all but disappeared. They have now brought back user defined chat "rooms" that are really a form of message forum that last only until 5 hours after the last post. There is nothing to stop multiple members from creating the same chat room name either. The old (yes, I'm showing my age) IRC chat rooms were better!

The only thing interesting is the links to news articles but they didn't have to kill the site to do that right.

Gay.com is NOT "the world's leading gay social networking site!" The site has plummeted over the years because of a site upgrade back in 2008 which eliminated all 3rd party chat programs to be able to connect to its servers (about half of the sites members left the site within days of this happening) the remaining stayed but all of a sudden had virtually no activity because people just weren't around anymore!

5 years later (2013) they have done it yet again (although with new ownership "Here Media" who by the way are a bunch of straight, homophobic and discriminating people only in it for the money) now removed chat all together and boy did it cause a HUGE amount of drama all over the internet! They are also marking pictures that are not "adult" as "adult" which forces people to pay to see the pics, they have basically just sank the ship!

I do not recommend gay.com to ANYONE and will be sitting back watching as the remainder of the company falls flat on their faces! They don't care about their members who have been around for over a decade (most of them paying) they just care about their wallets!

Avoid at all costs!

After many years building friendships on this site they suddenly deleted all my emails, got rid of the buddy list, and removed chat. Really rotten thing to do.

I really really sincerely want to say that gay.com was always a cool place to log into. Even with technical problems in the past years it was still a site great for making connections, buddies, chatting, flirting, meeting new people, etc. I realize in 2015 everyone wants to have an app available for the cell phones, tablets, etc. But, gay.com has just screwed up so royally in their effort to evolve and include new formats that they have reduced what was a decent site to nothing. This is not just some cyber web virtual world.. there are real connections going on. Why wouldn't you want to fix the issues and make both the app and the site amazing? You are like a world class restaurant that chooses to hire chefs that don't give a rat's $#*! if the food is good.. and the owners don't even care anymore. So frustrating. To the person who mentioned he thinks the 1 star reviews are unfair.. maybe it would be the case if we are rating companies that do a few irritating things.. like the cable companies, phone services, even bad restaurants on yelp. But in the case of gay.com... I could list about 20 things that are wrong with the actual functionality of the site.. not including the fact that if you go there right now 99.9% of people are unable to even log in. I'm going to give them a 2.. using the middle finger from each hand. I know it's harsh but I think they earned it. When they earn 3 or more stars then I will come back and give them 3 or more.. not that they will even see it or give a f*** if they do. From this point on I'm no longer paying attention. I'm done.

Years ago this was the site that set the standard. Now it seems to be on its last leg and there are vultures circling around it because of all the nearly-dead trolls that seem to be its primary audience now. I used to be a 'premium' member but quit when the ad-bots and phishing scams became so overwhelming that I quit using the site. They REALLY need to hire some people with fresh ideas and overhaul the design of the site.

Years ago, this site was pretty cool. Since then they got greedy, and want people to pay to connect to one another. Not cool. Now, it is declining.
