Seems like this platform has gone downhill since smugmug took over. They keep pushing everyone into getting pro or risk losing their account completely. And then they are constantly advertising promotions to incentivize new pro upgrades, but never give any sort of discounts to existing members. Customer support is absolutely useless too

Customer support is absolutely useless too

Yesterday I tried to sign up for Flicker. After receiving the confirmation email I clicked at the link, and I could login.
But after that, I directly got the message "Account creation failed".

No other message, nothing. So I tried again, with another browser. Same issue applies.

Strange as it is my first try to sign up with this website. With an email address from a domain that only exists a few weeks.

I send an email for help. And guess what?!
I am being seen as "risky" and denied having an account. No explanation, nothing. I am just risky? This makes me angry.

Why am I risky? Because I live in Bulgaria? And thus must be risky, that is how it feels. Being dismisses as a kind of criminal.

I never have done anything against the law, on the contrary, for all my jobs I needed a risk/security clearance. Which I have gotten, always.
And then being dismissed as "risky". Says enough about a company like this.

Flickr you are discriminating, and thus you have no right to exist.

Tip for consumers:
A site who declines, without any given reason, people as "risky" is discriminating. And thus has not right to exist.
Don't use it!

Can't log on. Enter my email address and it directs me to the new user window. Enter that email in the new user window and it tells me that address is already in use. Back and forth. Garbage. And to contact the Flickr incompetents, they want your user URL. Seriously? How moronic is that?!?!? Exactly how am I supposed to get that? Hmm? Garbage site. Deserves a negative 5 stars.

So my experience with Flickr began with creating a memorial of memories to celebrate my stepfather who recently passed. I loaded up photos, and advised family how to view them.
Sadly without explanation the site stopped registering my account after a few days. With no explanation I tried registering the same email. It allowed me to create a site again, but the memorial content had been deleted.
I followed up with Flickr support, who eventually sent a generic email saying my account had been deleted, that further accounts would be deleted a link to their t&c but no explanation why!

Requested details, but they didn't respond, worst site I've seen. Also no way to retrieve your photos if your only copy was with Flickr.
I'll use any app before them in future.

After a family reunion, many of us joined Flickr so we could share and buy each other's photos. Unfortunately, we just realized after our pictures have all been uploaded to a private group site, that we cannot order each other's pictures…you can only order from your own photos. Very disappointing.

I have been a member of Flickr for over 19 years (since 2004). During that period I uploaded up to 48K safe images (i.e identified by Flickr as "acceptable to a global, public audience for what would be appropriate for public viewing in any setting") into different categories (albums). Throughout this time I had so many followers. However, on 12 June 2023 the Flickr support people, (Jenny, and Olivia) took a decision to delete my entire account of images without giving me any specific reasons for their decision or prior warning. I sent emails to the help desk to find out what violations in my safe images had been discovered. Both wrote me that "They are not at liberty to discuss the specifics of accounts closed for violations", which makes it impossible for me to understand the cause of this deletion and what warranted the closing down of my account.
To make matters worse, I had paid £111.84, on 18th May 2023, for a further 2 years subscription to Flickr. In the second email from the help desk, Olivia wrote to me that "Per our Terms of Use that you read and agreed to, Flickr does not provide refunds or partial refunds for unused subscription time should you close your account prematurely, or should your actions cause Flickr to terminate your account."; but as far as I remember Flickr took £111.84 from my bank account automatically without any reminder about that clause agreement. Also I should mention I do not recall ever being provided with that term of non payment clause.
I tried to contact the Don MacAskill, the CEO of Flickr and SmugMug in order to ask him why Flickr help desk had deleted my entire 48K images. I wrote him via Twitter, Instagram, and Linkedin. Unfortunately I did not receive any answers from him or anybody else. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience with this website?

Tip for consumers:
I would like to ask Flickr to give reasons for the action taken by the Help Desk and to kindly provide me with further information that instigated them from suddenly deciding to terminate my account after 18 years of being a loyal member and deleted my 48,000 'Safe Images' with return of my £111.84, (Receipt number 2515-0791, Invoice Number FlICKR-2293211) for a further 2 years subscription in Flickr.

I have been a member of Flickr since around 2009 and I believe it's the best photo sharing site around. But if you ever have a problem such as being unable to log on or forgetting your password, username, security questions etc, then forget asking Flickr or Yahoo for help because you will probably be locked out of your account for eternity. They will put every available obstacle in your way to prevent you from recovering your original Flickr page. I will be looking for another photograph sharing site.

Boots arrived quickly but began to leak after about three weeks use. Replacements were sent without quibble. Thanks for great service, will definitely use again.

Flickr will not let you recover your account, says they can delete it but after years and years the account will still be there with all the photos. They are using what it's not theirs. And the users have no control over their personal details and art.

I was a Pro member for over a decade and decided it wasn't worth it so I thought if I just didn't renew my credit card information when it expired that the payment wouldn't go through…I was wrong. When I tried to reach a person to cancel my account the email and phones both said they don't monitor them, so I deleted my account and all photos. 3 weeks later I was still not reimbursed.

Tip for consumers:
That they somehow can update your credit card information without your consent.

I spent the first few years of my cyber life wandering looking for something that satisfied my creative itch in photography. Most sites in 2004 were pretty vanilla. The content being fairly predictable tropes. Being a virtual newbie to the online space I didn't connect much anywhere. Then flickr came along. I promptly paid for the pro level account and never looked back. Here I am 16 years later still forking out my annual subscription. Except now I use it to also backup all my jpegs too. It is my home away from home and the place I spend most of my online existence. Admittedly the 'community' got the life sucked out of it by Facebook and then instagram but hey I like hanging around in there and the images I ave backed up are tucked away and I'm not fed ads or do they use my data in a way that offends me.

I think I first saw this website around 10 years ago, at that time it had a different layout and It had a contest also.
Now the changed the website and there is no challenge or contest which so bad i think, also recently very few activity at there.
But still I like that site.

Tip for consumers:
Good beautiful website to share photo but unfortunately very few activity at there. I mean i received very few feedbacks in comparison to other sites.

It started as a family site but it's full of porn, app doesn't have dark mode and they keep getting greedy for money by increasing the fee all the time.

I know Flickr has been the biggest photo sharing website popular to photographers. I'm a casual photographer and I had to sign up for this when I took a course in digital photography. First, I'm not too happy about having to sign up with Yahoo just have to a Flickr account. It's like what Google pulls people to do with having a Gmail and a Google Account.

Second, the navigation is complicated and confusing, in my personal experience. It's really hard to navigate and the batch organizer looks really outdated. It's like you could go to the same page in two different ways for no reason. Deleting photographs or editing data on it is hard to find and also could be done in multiple obscure ways.

I'm deleting my account right after my photography course is over.

Since Smugmug bought it, it doubled it's subscription rate, out of pure corporate greed. Also, they delete your account if anyone complains about even one pic that they don't like. After building my albums over a ten year period with 30,000 pics, and over 150 million views, they deleted my account for no viable reason. I would never use there service again.

You can 'give the gift of Pro' to someone on Flickr. They can reject your gift and you won't be informed. In other words you won't get a refund and Flickr will keep your money.

I'm not buying a Pro account for anyone. I'm just amazed that a large company can legally do this do this.

And you used to be able to upload something like a terrabyte of photos on Flickr. In fact it was encouraged. Then a new company called 'Smugmug' bought Flickr, introduced a new upload limit and effectively called anyone who had a free account a leech. Now who's the leech, taking peoples money and giving them nothing in return?

Surely this is illegal?

1000's of pics of my travels throughout the years, pics of my nephew as an infant all gone with no warning given. Now they won't allow me to retrieve those pics for no apparent good reason. How does that correct the issue? Robbing me of some of my most valuable pics doesn't resolve anything. All because I accidentally clicked on a file for upload. I was completely aware of the TOA, the upload of the NSFW was done accidentally. This is completely unprofessional behavior on behalf of Flickr, they are within their right to delete my account but at least give me an opportunity to retrieve the pictures that hold much sentimental value to me.

Tip for consumers:
There are so many other cloud services to choose from. Don't make the same mistake I did and lose all of your valuable memories all because you forgot to unselect a certain file.

There is no way to log off Flickr. I deleted my account.
Since I must enter at least 100 characters into this review, I'll just keep typing until I meet that minimum. I wanted to log off Flickr, then go to the Flickr site to "test" my uploads; but as long as I'm on the computer I used to create my account, I'm always logged in. This lack of control is enough to make me avoid Flickr.

Flickr have deleted my account but will not tell me why, yet all I had posted was my own scenic pictures from where I live. It shamefull that a company such as Flickr can do this with no warning and explanation is beyond me. The official response makes you feel that you have done something really bad when in fact you have not. Where are the helpfull staff? I gather that when they say not at liberty to discuss specifics means thay have not got a clue.

Even though I needed Flickr as a photography enthusiast; I boycotted Flickr yesterday. So why is Flickr bad?

1. SafeSearch is a joke. You will run through a lot of inappropriate images. It is not safe for children under any circumstances. Hence, you cannot use it with comfort if your children are around. Another issue is the flagging button. You cannot flag a photo for review unless you open it. What a terrible design? Having to load inappropriate images in order to "flag" them?

2. Customer service are negative and neglect their own guidelines. I reported a group that was mocking a particular religious group which is against Flickr's guidelines. Guess what? The group is still there, the customer service response was awful.

3. The search function is primitive and doesn't suit photographers AT ALL. The mobile version is even worse. Searching groups is a pain. Is that a website meant for photography?

4. Search results load in a single large page overloading your computer and browser. Again, terrible design.

In short? A painful experience.

I've used it since 2008 without a single problem. The rest of these characters are merely to get to the threshold where this stupid min character requirement is satisfied.
