Once you have posted your sensitive information on this forum full of hacks, the owner of the ExpertLaw website then assumes full control of your thread then locks it down so you can't edit or delete anything, he now owns your content.

This should be a very serious warning to anyone who even thinks about posting on this scammers website. A class action lawsuit should be filed against the owner.

Agree with other negative reviews. I thought the whole point of these sites was so people could get answers and guidance on legal matters they are unsure about. Instead, Expert Law "senior members" will give you condescending answers and act like you're stupid for posting. Don't waste your time with this garbage site.

I been lurking the site and they give bad info to those who say they been falsely accused of fraud. They said they cannot sue. As a matter of fact, those who are accused of fraud can sue for libel per se.

Libel per se

N. Broadcast or written publication of a false statement about another which accuses him/her of a crime, immoral acts, inability to perform his/her profession, having a loathsome disease (like syphilis) or dishonesty in business. Such claims are considered so obviously harmful that malice need not be proved to obtain a judgment for "general damages," and not just specific losses. Https :// dictionary. Law. Com/Default. Aspx? Wish I read these reviews before coming here. I had forgotten the forum I used in the past, but I will be searching for them because I miss them. They were actually helpful and many of the users stated their professional titles if applicable. ExpertLaw is filled with the same people who argue amongst each other and respond so rudely to the people. Yes, I've seen some people who need to be questioned a bit, but then there are genuine people who get responses like "grow thicker skin" or pretty much "who cares" kind of responses. Obviously, no one wants to go through the money and trouble- came here to see if it were something missing to try. If not, ok fine, glad I only wasted a couple of hours online and not an appointment with an attorney. I can go on but just take a look at the threads and they're all the same. Moderator, Aaron, doesn't look much better. Seek an actual forum and not this $#*! show.

Some AVVO attorneys act as immature as the people on ExpertLaw, but at least you have a better chance of receiving a response from a real attorney. Expertlaw anyone can post a comment! I just realized that within two hours of posting and was like, wait, you people are not verified attorneys... what a waste of my time.

AVVO, where sometimes you receive Attorney's Varied Vague Opinions, but many of them respond with real answers and will show you where it is written in the law if you ask them and they are verified as practicing attorneys.

If you posted a thread in which you believe you received inaccurate information, please identify the thread so that we can address the information. ExpertLaw has a legal community that goes beyond lawyers -- including not only lawyers, but other legal professionals, HR professionals, police officers, land surveyors, and interested members of the community -- and thus makes no promise that a response will be from a lawyer, but we do strive for accuracy. Avvo is a legal Q&A site, while ExpertLaw is a discussion forum.

Don't make the same mistake so many others have made by falling for this gimmick! Many have sought assistance from this site by posting information about some unfortunate situation, hoping to receive genuine assistance from someone more knowledgeable about how the law works.

The way it often works is this: you find what appears to be a professionally-run helpful legal website. Then you post something that reveals some sensitive information about your matter, or information that could be recognized by someone else on the other side of your matter. Then people reply to your post often with worthless information that completely miss the point, thereby taking your post and making it into something entirely different from what you had intended. When you try to put the post back on track, someone starts lecturing and admonishing you.

Then you come to the harsh realization that everything you have posted, as well as the replies, are discoverable by the opposing side to your matter. Worse, when you are deposed by opposing attorneys, you will be asked under oath and threat of perjury if you have ever posted anything about your case on any website, and about the specifics of it, so that it can be located and read by the people on the other side of your lawsuit!

So, then you want to have your post removed from "Expert Law". But guess what? There is no way to have it removed. First of all, you probably won't find any way to contact someone for assistance, and if you do, they won't reply to your request for assistance or be able to assist you. Even if you do find a way to contact someone who does reply, you will likely be scolded "Didn't you read the Terms & Conditions, whereby all posts are the property of the website Owner, and that you have forfeited all rights to your posts?". You are now officially screwed! You came for assistance, maybe because someone is taking advantage of you, and now you have become taken advantage of again.

Just be thankful you read this BEFORE you posted sensitive information.

Most of the posters are the "you are guilty" type which is counterproductive and frustrating for defendants. They advocate the prosecution but the prosecution is never the one who posts, it's almost always defendants. What ends up happening is the senior members bully new posters trying to convince them they are guilty and need an attorney. The defendants leave frustrated.

The issue is exacerbated by Mr. Knowitall who secretly has the ability to delete or modify any post he doesn't agree with. Occasionally, if he doesn't want to debate, Mr. Knowitall will change what users have posted, putting words in their mouth which violates not only the sites terms of use but also the foundational elements of an ethical discussion thread. The forum is very regulated and censored and is not conducive of healthy conversation with people of various viewpoints.

This is my honest opinion of the ExpertLaw forums. I have intentionally chosen to not cite particular threads because if I did I there's a high probability the thread's content would be modified, rendering the citation useless anyways.

If you ask for advice, the "senior" members of this site will just attack you, your person, will paint you as guilt without really caring for the facts. They may have very basic legal knowledge but will grab every occasions to bash poster to the ground. They randomly ban people who has different opinions so only their closed circle will post replies to posts.

Stay away and I would not listen to anything they post!

Users are rarely banned for any reasonsbut spamming or extreme abuse. If you were banned and don't understand why, if you identify your account name I will try to find the reason for the ban.

I made a very serious post reguarding child care and how to get away from my father as he is an unfit parent. In response I recieved hate about how I was ungrateful and even a liar. I went to this site seeking help, and trusted them with my story for them to accuse me of lying and reffering to me as a typical teenager who doesn't appreciate their father. Overall a very disappointing experience.

• Updated review

To update, the thread that prompted this review is dated 6-17-13, titled "Support Increased, No Deviation Allowed" and is under the Child Custody, Support and Visitation forum. My username for the site was JustIs. You will see that I was banned, and no, I did not spam or abuse anyone in my posts. Several of the posts (both from myself and the senior members) were edited and/or removed, for what purpose? It appears as though Aaron L. Came here to discredit any negative reviewers, instead of acknowledging any wrongdoing from their site and seeking to make amends. For the record, the issue I posted about was resolved in my favor. For anyone who looks at the original post, you will clearly see that Mr. KnowItAll (ha) and Dogmatique never mentioned that option~ they repeatedly make comments that I am a "fraud" and "only want money". So I ask~ how was that "positive and helpful", Aaron? Why was I banned for simply daring to question your senior members statements, but it is okay for them to make character assassinations as much as they please? I've seen other businesses and services respond to negative remarks by trying to remedy the complaint(s), but I don't think that's what you're trying to do. It seems like you want to excuse the actions of the senior members. I hope I'm wrong, but time will tell.

*Update 9/23 Since the thread in question still has not been removed, and Aaron has now come here to justify the negative actions of the senior members, I will shine a light on the facts of my experience with the site. The issue was that several members made a gross assumption that I intended to live with my husband while claiming to be separated, even though I did not once make that statement. Even after repeating several times that I would not file for separation or divorce, members continued to repeatedly state that it was what I wanted. When I tried to direct the conversation back to getting their legal advice, that is when I was banned. Thankfully, the questions I had posted about were resolved with an appeal hearing and we did not need an attorney. With a little research of our own, we were able to get the order modified. If I had taken the "advice" from ExpertLaw, nothing would have gotten changed. I am wondering why, four years after the fact, Aaron has decided to comment on this old business.

Tip for consumers:
To address Aaron's most recent comments: I updated my review, hence the second review. If I had anything positive to say about the site, I would, but your replies are doing nothing to remedy the situation. I would address the rest of your statements, but that would delete my other post. I'm sorry that you don't like the fact that people are allowed to express honest opinions here, without "senior member" status.

You have posted multiple negative reviews here over a thread from 2013?

I have reviewed your thread. The logs show no edits. The logs show no deletions. I have looked through your thread and I see nothing that justifies your vitriol. Yes, you were criticized by some members for suggesting that you and your husband might engage in a sham separation in order to try to reduce his child support payments, but surely you can understand why people would be critical of that suggestion.

Many of the same issues as noted in my other review:...

Many of the same issues as noted in my other review: many comments from senior members who make assumptions and criticisms about you instead of answering your legal question. Considering the name of the site is "ExpertLaw", that is rather misleading. I contacted the administrator to request that the troublesome thread be removed and it was not. When I saw that a senior member was continuing to make derogatory comments (comparing me to some psychotic cop in the news), I simply explained that his response was not helpful and that apparently got me banned from the site permanently. That is an abuse of privileges. Another legal forum to avoid.

ExpertLaw's posters offer sound, accurate advice. At least most of them do. Like on any legal advice website, there are the malcontents, mis-informed, and not-rights. But the majority of the members are generous with their advice and knowledge.

I could find no where else to vent my frustration with this site and looked up to see if there was a way to review it. That's how I ended up here and no surprise to find other people saying the exact same thing I was thinking of saying - condescending! And bullies!

I went in to ask for help on something expecting professional advice because I was under the assumption that this was an "expert law" forum. Instead, I was immediately insulted and made to feel like my question was not welcome there. I politely tried to defend myself by letting them know that there was no need to be rude, but my comment was deleted. When I asked why they deleted my comment and not that of the other poster, they deleted my comment again. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I posted something in the general section paying close attention to the rules to make sure I want breaking them. Again I was attacked and accused of trying to make a winning case out of my case when my post had nothing to do with it. Instead of going along with their antics, I contacted the site administrator who decided to instead tell me off and then he went on to delete my post. I told him that if he was going to keep deleting my comments that he should just delete me entirely from the forum, but THAT he refused to do. Those actions pretty much imply that they just want you there as a punching bag, probably to vent the frustration of their miserable lives.

They do have a "holier than thou" attitude. While there are a few good people who do actually help, they are wasting their goodness on such a foul place.

After that, I just go to Avvo. They give god legal advice from REAL lawyers, they are not condescending, and they don't act like your questions bother them... and believe me, I've asked some pretty ignorant questions from which after their good advice I would have understood if it bothered them, but they never acted bothered.

Would that everyone would just dump expert law and save their time, sanity, and pride and just go to Avvo.

This site gives excellent legal information with a fraction of the acrimony seen on other sites. I find the complaints below to be laughable, not only because they seem to mostly be posted by the same person but because, to the extent that you can investigate them, they're obviously false.

Wow, I've only been experiencing the negativity their trolls handed out for a couple days when I got a hunch and looked up forum reviews. Ha! Just what I thought, it's a bunch of self-important basement dwellers who have nothing better to do all day than bash people.

They know SOME things about the law and can site codes and precedents but if you disagree with them on ANYTHING, that's it, you are the enemy from then on.

Even if you try to defend yourself, your defense is removed immediately, no matter how patient and even-tempered it is. Basically, no defense of ones self is allowed. If they say something disparaging about you, it stays. If you call them on it, your post is deleted.

If that doesn't describe a bunch of psychos running a forum... well. Make your own judgement.

Beware mostly of Mr. Knowitall... from what I can tell, he's the worst and probably a moderator, so be prepared to be called named and have every single one of your retorts to the contrary deleted as he apparently runs the forum.

Terrible site, I'd avoid it if I were you, it will only make you feel like there's no hope. I know I have a winning case, but they enjoy spreading their negativity around and want you to feel like you're going to lose. It's pathetic.

This site is run by a bunch of trolls and cowards who have to hide behind screennames. Rather than give professional legal advice, they take cheap shots at anyone who dears to ask a question. You have to be very careful what you say because they will find an opportunity to make you look guilty and then lock the thread so it stays on the site perminately. If you want legal advice from real legal professionals with real credibility then you should go to avvo.com. The legal experts there aren't afraid to show face and will take the time to answer your questions professionally. Uezr

ExpertLaw runs a discussion forum and, as such, people register under usernames and post under their usernames. We discourage most members from sharing their names, as if people are seeking information about an actual legal situation they should remain as anonymous as possible when posting online. Beyond that, it's up to the individual whether they share their name in part or in full -- just as here, where you posted your review under a partial name. If you want me to look at a specific thread to comment on the volunteers' conduct or to try to determine why it was closed, I will be happy to do so if you identify the thread.

People go to ExpertLaw.com, sincerely seeking help and advice and are met with "senior members" with no real legal experience and obviously nothing better to do and smug, holier than thou, condescending, mocking attitudes. And if you see other reviews putting down ours (those who have had bad experiences) and calling us "mentally ill" or "dishonest" or "whiners", don't be fooled... They are obviously the same "senior members", trying to protect their bullying playground. Just look at all the other reviews, if you think mine is wrong. How can so many people with the same experience be so wrong, while the very few who are obviously affiliated be so much more right than us? And a message to these ExpertLaw "experts", do us all a favor and get a life and leave law to the LAWyers! - Zohra M.

ExpertLaw does not provide legal advice at all. The forum is a discussion forum where, if you choose, you may post a legal scenario and obtain legal information. For legal advice, you actually do have to retain a lawyer to advise you. I am sorry that you were surprised to learn that fact when posting in the forum.

I used expert law to seek advice Regarding California visitation changes. I was met with bullying and one sided opinions with no expert advice. When I went back to inform them of what a lawyer had said regarding my question, I was once again accused of trying to do something that I wasn't, I had found my solution that I was seeking yet they tried to turn it around on me and make me a bad guy.
When I posted the reviews from this site (site jabber), it brought two people from expert law here, and their response below is an example of what you will endure if you question, disagree, or they just don't like what you posted when you went looking for advice.
I hope they waste money on a defamation suit, it will be costly to sue 8 people, including myself, who gave bad reviews, and who also have had similar experience as mine.
I did take pictures of my question and the responses, so good luck proving that what I said just now is false and/or that it is not a matter of opinion.
Also, when you make them mad, they won't be afraid to post your real name (admin did) and that goes against the websites privacy policy.
You have any regular joe that can comment on the forum and not have any kind of knowledge of the law. Yet they are called "experts"
Be aware of the policy, expert law website states "Notice: Information provided in the forum is not intended to substitute for professional advice, including but not limited to professional legal advice. If you submit a question or comment it is assumed that you are interested in soliciting, receiving or giving general information and not legal advice. Laws vary by state, and the laws described in this forum may be different in your state or may have been changed since the information was posted. The legal help offered in this forum comes from volunteers who may not have any formal legal training or knowledge, and all information should be confirmed with a qualified legal professional. All information is made available on an "as is" basis. You should accept legal advice only from a licensed legal professional with whom you have an attorney-client relationship. Use of this forum is subject to the ExpertLaw terms of use."
So you have regular joes thinking they know the law, yet the site itself already states the help comes from volunteers who may or may not have formal training.
If you are seeking advice for a question, from someone who knows the law, use another site, any site besides this one.

Update:
They have used my name, probably from the admin giving out that info.

I am sorry that you did not like the information you received in the forum. That's one of the problems with legal issues -- at best, only one party to a dispute is going to walk away happy.

It concerns me that you are admitting to leaving multiple reviews on this site.
