“Surprisingly, excellent (ESPECIALLY in comparison to other two)”

Jaqi M.
3/18/24

First of all, who among us does not detest these "credit" agencies in general? I mean, seriously, WHO empowered and allowed these three groups to possess such sensitive data on each of us? If our laws were not what they were, surely this would end summarily, and these agencies would FOLD as well as be liable for using our personal information without our consent. Unfortunately (or until someone really digs down and takes them on), we're relegated to being at their mercy in regard to what they think our credit file should look like. In that regard, however, I have to say that Experian is leagues above the other two credit reporting bureaus (Equifax and TransUnion, respectively). Experian's site is SO much easier to navigate despite being more well-populated with the links and information you need; online disputes are easy to file; and for ONCE, here is a company whose emails do NOT SUCK. They are informative and actually HELP you on your road to building credit or maintaining it. (Check out their Experian "Boost" option which helps your credit based on monthly bills). All in all, two thumbs up, especially in comparison to the other two.

“Customer Support is an irritation”

Benjamin D.
3/21/23

The automated bot needs to ask less $#*!ing questions and have the option to connect to an agent from the getgo. And the agents shouldn't start off saying that a refund doesn't typically happen. Then turning around and saying they'll contact someone higher to request an approval. So even they they gave it to me as a one time courtesy I'm still giving this 1 star review for the customer support.

There is no way this company actually investigates disputes, at least those submitted online. They wait a couple days then close the dispute with no change to the information. Meanwhile, both Equifax and TransUnion deleted the information I disputed. The only option would be to sue them, but of course they know we can't afford to do that so they can get away with such a poor business practice.

%90 of updates you receive from the Experian app are just fake. They just want you to log-in and eventually buy their services. After you get fooled and buy their subscription, they have nothing useful for you. Even the reported credit score is off. Each login takes three minutes on my phone. I think they wrote their whole system in Python. It is probably the slowest website I have ever seen in my life.

Absolutely horrible. Does not deserve even 1 star. Constantly pushing to buy more services and selling credit cards that I don't need. Impossible for 2 people with advanced college degrees to figure out how to put a fraud alert on the account because a 10 digit credit report number is required but not provided. This system itself is fraud.

Tip for consumers:
Just plain horrible. Not at all user friendly or even useful

Autocar use this platform for information. Experian as usual has got it wrong, classified my car as a N. Where they get that rubbish from is a mystery. Maybe some idiot in South Africa who is paid peanut money, no education either. Experian are not a trustworthy bunch, they could not tell the truth if it hit them in the face. Yobs or junkies is the UK rating for Exoeriam

Their telephone system literally makes it impossible to reach a human being. I've tried getting my annual credit report, and while the other two agencies, Equifax and Trans Union, both work without issue, Experian would not create a report for myself, or my wife or my mother. The only way I would give this company one star is if there's no option to give them zero stars.

I got Experian boost hoping to boost my credit score by a small amount but I had my name legally changed partway through the process and it is impossible to get fixed. I used their online upload: doesn't work, tried to fax them: their inbox is full, I sent my private information in the mail and called several times with no success. I am very frustrated that this has put me so far behind in my credit improvement process.

Tip for consumers:
I really wish there was any way to contact someone working at the Experian headquarters to help or a better system with these very simple very common account changes

There is no option for online (email/chat) customer support. You have to call and speak with someone who continues trying to upsell you the different options that Experian has, and there is a major language barrier because they outsource their CSR's. I called to cancel my membership after I learned that I could not cancel the 7 day free trial on the website. They make it difficult in hopes that they can squeeze more money from you. Wish I had read reviews first, but thankfully I was not charged because I used an empty account to reserve the membership.

Was turned down by a credit card company due to Experian credit research. Card company said I would need to contact Experian to answer any questions. Tried multiple phone numbers would only get a useless recording that would not connect me to a live person. Went to website to obtain a free report, had to create an account and still would not create an account or provide a report!

I had to freeze my credit a few months ago. Now I am unable to log into my account to unfreeze it, which is blocking me from acquiring utilities in my name. The system no longer recognizes my password, my email, phone number, and has no number to speak to a live person or online chat. I have spent 2 hours on this. Where does this leave me? What recourse do we have?

Tip for consumers:
How can I access my account so I can live my life and connect my utilities?

I just called for the 17th time to get my phone number corrected with these stupid people. I ask the woman who had very broken English where I was calling and she told me their office was in Allen texas. Beware of these people, they are NOT honest. That woman was clearly from another country and would not give me any info.

Can't add a new card to pay my subscription to your premium service. The current card was stolen and had to be canceled.(fraud detection my azz.) So, because your app won't allow me to add a "valid" expiration date(see pic, note the lack of option to add a slash.). I cannot continue my subscription with you. **Also, I've requested my credit union to be listed on your app so I can use boost for two years now to no avail. I guess I'm done with you.

NOT SATISFIED WITH YOUR HALFA55ED SERVICE. Experian.com is no where near worth the 25 dollars a month. Get a clue. Since I wasn't able to speak with a human, I shared my post as a review.
Also, looking around the app for Android, you'll notice several places where script is overlayed onto others making it illegible. See second pic.

Tip for consumers:
Don't waste your time efforts or money on experian credit monitoring.

Experian refuses to remove falsified information. I had a collection over 10 years ago with Farmers Insurance Group FCU. That company continues to falsify my payments to continue the debt. Experian continues to lean towards the big corporation rather than accept my disputes.

I frankly think the FCC which is another company that don't do their job, should investigate Experian. My score has been the same for over a year I mean it hasn't changed 1 number up or down. This company hijacks your information then sell it other companies who want to deny you credit. I'm sure they are working in cahoots with redlining companies and loans companies and rental agencies that pay them to give them denial ratings. Now they are asking credit cards how is this even legal? I will also start asking merchants I acquire credit from if they use Experian credit report which I will very promptly go some place else. This company is as negligent as it's unprofessional noisy foreign customer services departments!

I had $80,000 paid off of my name and my credit score went down. I don't trust the credit bureaus because they side with the companies and put on your name what ever the company says. Thanks for not caring about the consumer. Appreciate it

OK, I got an alert that my credit score has decreased. Can't log in because I forgot my password. I gave them my phone number so I could get a verification code by text, but they don't send the code. I ask to verify a different way. Answer the question, get no further. Terrible website. Terrible service. They should be put out of business for messing with people's financial security and peace of mind.

Tip for consumers:
Don't use this site. It is as good as bogus.

Has to be on of the worst company's to deal with. Clearly their goal is to make it impossible to talk to a human. Oddly enough, when you call in to discuss your identity theft, they ask you the same questions SSN, street address, ETC. that the thief already has access too. The only way I can reach a human is to go through my Discover card account, call them directly and they will transfer me to a live operator at Experian. Such a joke.

Now, if you're like me and watch your credit scores and reports like a hawk, especially since Facebook takes delight in selling your personal information and after I found my $#*! on the dark web after a scan, I've taken proactive steps to protect myself from identity theft. We all know that there are 3 major credit reporting agencies lenders use to determine if they will give you a loan, and if they do, based on your credit worthiness and other factors, either give you a great rate or a rate so high, you'll still be sucking buttermilk for the next several decades paying off that new air conditioner you buy today.

Well, what started out as NOT an experiment turned into one this month. And I realized, Experian sucks, and withholds information from your report. I found the question "Why does Experian suck?" on Reddit, I found with the answers all echo my findings. I had to chime in, and this is what I had to say., based on my experience so far monitoring my credit from both agencies in the past 4 months.

"Experian does suck. For example, after decades of paying for everything in cash, whether it's the car I buy or the apartments I rent, I dumped the use of credit cards in my mid 30's, which dropped my FICO score to 4 (which is the same as 0) as the old cards dropped off. It was basically working with a clean slate. Just for chuckles and grins, I applied for a Capital One Platinum credit card recently which was unsecured and to my surprise, with a zero FICO score, I was approved with an unsecured $500 credit limit, which for my needs, was absolutely perfect. Well, after 2 solid months of using the card and paying the card balance off in full before the end of the statement cycle, my scores with both Transunion and Equifax skyrocketed, from zero credit to a range of a "fair" raiting of 667 by mid January. I recently added my rental payments to be reported to all 3 agencies, and within a half of a month, my 15 month good payment history took my score up over 20 points virtually overnight when the payments were reported. But, only 2 agencies posted everything. Transunion and Equifax, Experian still shows my score as "unscoreable"

As for Experian, they have yet to post even a single payment to my Capital One Platinum card, even though it is in good standing with an outstanding payment history, and has yet to report my over year long payment history with my property manager. That account isn't even showing up yet on Experian, yet showed up on the other agencies as soon as the information was reported along with a 15 month record of on time payments. On Experian, only one open account has been listed (The Capital One one) with no payment history listed, But, they were oh so glad to have the 3 derogatory reports hitting from medical bills from last year that are virtually impossible to pay because the hospital chooses to send a seperate bill for the various departments involved (one for Radiology, one for the lab, one for the ER doctor, one for the ER visit, one for the $500 aspirin they give you in the ER, billed by the pharmacy) instead of one itemized bill.

I know some here say Experian is not dropping your score, but I can tell you that one thing is quite obvious after this 4 month "experiment" that didn't even start as one, they do pick and choose what gets into their reports. When you're hovering near 700 with the other 2 and still haven't even moved the needle with one, you can clearly see something isn't right.

Now, I dunno about you. But I do think this is a class action lawsuit brewing over willful under-reporting of peoples credit and scores based on their favor of derogatory crap over established loans and good credit history and have a total disregard over good payment history.

No wonder Credit Karma only offers Transunion and Exquifax scores in their service. Because Intuit knows what the answer is to the question that kicked off this topic, "Why does Experian suck?" Because they do. That's why.

Or, if you apply for a new apartment and they happen to do a check credit, as most landlords do that nowadays, PRAY they chose Transunion or Exquifax to pick from. With what they tell the perspective landlord, you're a good responsible person and pay your bills on time. But, if they choose Experian to see what kind of responsible tenant you can be, don't be surprised if they wouldn't even rent you a dumpster to eat out of."

Now, today I go to get my free copies of my credit report from annualcreditreport.com, which now offers them WEEKLY and not annually like it used to be. And I had NO problems getting my Transunion and Equifax reports. Trying to get my Experian report, on the other hand. Just see the 2nd photo to see what Experian gives as an excuse. They say I either "didn't answer the questions correctly", which is absolute BS, or I didn't answer the questions fast enough (all 3 questions were answered correctly in a 15 second time period), or the universal cop out excuse "We are having technical difficulties", which I know is another BS excuse.

Figure 1, is my current credit scores from Transunion, Equifax, and Experian. 2 good from Transunion and Equifax, one "unscoreable" from Experian.

Figure 2, is my attempt to get my free credit report from the annualcreditreport.com website. The other two agencies did not give me this problem and I got both reports with no problems. Experian just will NOT give you a credit report for free, as they are now required to do.

Figure 3, the screen where Experian tries to sells you snakeoil products to "improve" your score with them.

Experian needs to be held responsible. This is inexcusable..

Just because I needed to put a freeze on my credit back in May 2018 is NOT. A valid reason for Experian to ssd's ign me up for membership and charge me $21.95 per month for membership that I never authorized. I didn't approve the membership or the $21.95 monthly fee. Pretty odd that after nearly two years this just now shows up as a monthly payment on my card. Not cool Experian
