“TOP MUSIC SITE FOR PROGRESSIVE ROCK!”

Peter F.
10/13/17

If you like Progressive Rock (particularly 60s and 70s obscurities) then this is the site for you. Go elsewhere if you want the current top 100 and major labels. Also it is well priced.

Once upon a time Emusic was a wonderful place to get music. I understand that they're trying to help struggling artists; but the minute they got rid of their catalog of songs from popular artist they slowly started to screw the customer; they began charging more for their songs; and then every once and a while they would slowly remove bands from even struggling artist who started to do well; to the point where I had never heard of ANY of the music. Then they began putting on popular artist again; they would trick users into thinking the remasters were the original songs or that live songs were the original songs. SCAM SCAM SCAM. And if you want to cancel, you have to write a letter to them and it takes them forever to get back with you. DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY.

I signed up based on offered content. No more than a week to my subscription and without any notice, about 90% of their offered content was taken down and made unavailable. I contacted them to cancel my subscription, but they wouldn't do it.
So they lure me in with promises, but once the payment goes through they don't deliver and keep your money.
After Googling, I also saw that labels complained that Emusic hasn't paid them.

Beware!

This is a horrible site to get music. They do not have good music. When I signed in 2016 their catalog good decent, now is really bad. Yu cannot find anything. If you want to leave before the year subscription finish, they do not return your money. I just wasted my time with these people. They do not know how to make business.

I cancelled my account years ago only to find they continued to charge me for a service I never used. The email address associated with my account my university email address that had been deactivated years ago. They asked for email confirmation of my cancellation which would be impossible. They refused to budge an inch to despite my never having used their service. I would never trust this company.

This used to be a great place to buy music, great selection, but now... nothing. Not only a waste of money but a big waste of time as all my searches come up empty. Thanks for all the great music I've downloaded over the years, but the last few months have been so frustrating I canceled today. I'm outta here!

eMusic is a legitimate place to buy digital music online. It's easy enough to sign up, and it's just as easy to cancel. If there's anything you have to understand about the service is that you will not be able to re-download a purchase once you do it the first time, and booster packs are only good for 90 days.

As of September, they no longer carry the catalogs of the big labels in the industry. If most of your music consumption comes from newsstand magazines, TV, and radio, you're better off using the other outlets. Because even with the small $11.99 plan, you're going to waste lots and lots of time trying to find something you actually want.

Tip for consumers:
Everything you can buy on eMusic is publicly visible. Search for a little bit before you sign up and see if they even carry the type of music you want to begin with. It will save you from having to beg for a refund later on.

Cheap, DRM-free music - good selection. I can usually find ~70% of what I'm looking for. Lots of great indie rock, the hip hop selection is pretty thin

Fantastic site though -- cheap, good selection, great way to discover new music

I've been an eMusic user since 2003. The selection and quality of music has depreciated greatly, but to cancel your account has become criminal and I will file a lawsuit against them for doing so. You CANNOT get out of paying them. Ever. They have multiple ways of collecting. You cannot cancel easily either. They require a letter of request from you as to why you are canceling. Really? $#*! them to hell. I'm finished with this once great place to find music.

Once you join, they are making it almost impossible to CANCEL online without multiple steps. Verging on criminal misuse of customer info.

Popular songs not by original artists. Type in song or artist in search and all you get is cover bands, They do not have song you want by original artist. There is a reason they are cheap.

They lured me in with a great music selection then cut ALL commercial music "Going back to their roots." Scammers! Do NOT take a chance with them. They will be of no assistance if you have any site issues and if you have an internet connection problem during a download, your money is gone! Once you buy a song, you need to download it that second. They will not allow you to re-download any music you have purchased. You MUST spend your cash allotment each month or will lose anything that was left. Check the BBB (Better Business Bureau) before joining this circus! NOT ACCREDITED - 198 complaints, enough said

This site is worse now than ever. I re-subscribed and now everything is pretty much cover bands of the real tracks I want. Out of about 15 current artists I searched tracks for, I got one!
Lousy selection. I will cancel my subscription and pay more with Itunes. At least I will get the real songs from the real artists.!

I bought a product online and some how got signed up for an account with this site. I saw charges on my credit card so I disputed it with my bank. My bank gave me my money back and changed my credit card number. I got a letter in the mail saying emusic says they had my authorization to charge my card. I don't read 5 pages of terms and conditions when I buy something online - who does? That's how they get you. So emusic got my disputed money back THEN today I saw they somehow obtained my new credit card number and charged me again for this month! Horrible, horrible, horrible site! DO NOT USE THEM! Also read or at least scan the terms and conditions when you buy stuff online to make sure you aren't allowing monthly stealing from your account :(

Not a big fan of emusic.com. I can't find most of what I want, and I don't see why anyone uses emusic anymore instead of grooveshark or spotify.

I went on the site as they were offering a "free" trial for a limited value. Unfortunately, downloads are automatic and your card is charge immediately upon clicking on an item, so free may not really be free depending on what you click on. No confirm screen of any kind is used by this site when charges are going on your card. THEY ALSO HAVE A NO REFUND POLICY THAT ALL STAFF REPEAT OVER AND OVER LIKE ROBOTS. Customer satsifaction is clearly not this company's priority. BE CAREFUL WHEN GIVING THIS SITE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO.

I got 25 free downloads from Ticketmaster when I printed out my ticket using TicketFast from emusic.com. But it MUST be one of the buggiest sites I have ever tried to use. They keep stopping you offering you more and better "deals" (which I did take one) and it still would not allow me to download the music that they convinced me to PAY for! With the EASE of iTunes, why would you ever go anywhere else?

Oh yeah... the lure of "free" music. But when it wastes all my evening trying to work the bugs out, then it isn't really free, now is it?

eMusic.com is a bad unethical company... do not use them! - I would give them no stars if I could. - eMusic Sucks - Do not do business with this company! - Use Napster - use iTunes - use Rhapsody... but do not use these guys - they are unethical hacks

In Sept 2007 - I made the huge mistake of responding to an offer for "free" music downloads from eMusic.com -- the offer seemed genuine. EMusic sent me an email welcoming me to eMusic in Sept 2007. Up until now (Mar 2009) - that is the only contact that I have had with eMusic.com. Upon doing my taxes earlier today - I found an 11.99 charge every month for last year (and now have also found out that eMusic has also billed me for Jan, Feb and Mar -- in addition to Sept Oct Nov and Dec 2007). Upon finding this issue - I contacted eMusic to ask for a refund as I have not downloaded a single track and now find that I have paid nearly $230 dollars to this company. I asked eMusic to find a reasonable amount for settlement given that (1) I have not downloaded any music (2) I have not heard from them since Sept 2007 (3) They have automatically renewed my "membership" (not sure if I would call it a membership as member programs normally keep members appraised)

This is obviously a rip-off company -- I would urge everyone to boycott this company -- additionally their practices are definitely below the line -- in this age of Bernie Madoff, I find it reprehensible that a company can be in business with such dubious business ethics. This company should be sued and driven out of business. Spend your money elsewhere!

This has got to be the most unethical, unscrupulous company that I have ever dealt with. I agree with one of the other reviewers... I would give them no stars if that was an option. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give them -100. I have tried to cancel my account with them for the last two months and keep getting charges to my credit card. I just got my credit card statement again and lo and behold there was another $11.99 charge even after receiving an email from Emusic that I had canceled my account. I immediately called my credit card company and filed a dispute. I also called Emusic and went round and round with them for the umpteenth time. All this because I joined after getting a "50 free music downloads" coupon with an MP3 player. I never did get their website to work so that I could download the songs. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER do business this company. Once they have your credit card info it's impossible to stop them. And to register you have to give it to them or you cannot continue. I'm afraid that if I will have to cancel a credit card that I've used over 10 years. I should not have to do that. Be wary, very wary of this company. If you're not next thing you know you'll have hundreds of dollars on your credit card that you don't way. Linda M.
