I'm a university student so I got my courses for free, I have no complaints. I think the level of knowledge I gain from Udemy and Coursera are pretty much the same if I put some effort into it. So in conclusion, pretty good in general, exactly like I'm attending a class in university, except that I pay attention and doesn't fall asleep. But I doubt that only attending a course or a university will guarantee you anything lol.

So I started using Coursera because Microsoft has direct Excel courses there. My first two classes went ok. Unfortunately for my third class the split screen will no longer work and I cannot proceed with any further learning. There are no humans to call or talk to in real time. My time is limited. They blatantly lie and tell you that you can contact support via their site. This is a lie, you just get connected with a boy. The community forums serve no purpose if someone needs help NOW, not a day or weeks from now hoping someone responds. Same with their email. How they stay in business providing such horrible service is a mystery to me.

Expensive, exploitative and useless. Most courses are filled with useless complex information just to make them longer and leech off longer subscription periods from users.

Be very careful if you choose to do the free trial. You can cancel before the end of the seven days, but BE SURE TO DELETE YOUR PAYMENT METHOD TOO. Otherwise they will still charge you. Don't let them do to you what they did to me. They essentially stole $60 from me. You have been warned.

The website wouldn't allow me to cancel the subscription. The website charged me twice and I had to manually write to customer service to cancel the google data analytics certificate. Additionally, every time I tried to remove my debit card information, the system generated an "error code" and wouldn't let me remove my card. Customer support stated they were not able to help me with this request (debit card removal) and I had to e-mail an entirely different department or keep trying ( even though I stated I've tried over ten times). It seems like this is the accepted business model. Highly disappointed and will never use the website again.

I am surprised no one mentions the fear of identity theft by Coursera. They want my government issued I.D. with photograph (drivers license or passport and date of birth, address). Heck they could possibly apply for credit cards in my name with all that information. How do I know Coursera is safe?
Also, I cannot find any courses that are FREE. 7 day trial period is free but all courses last more than 1 month. $79 a month is the rate I have been given.

So sad truly. I took a social media management course and finished taking it around my actual job in 3 days.
I submitted all peer reviewed assignments and also reviewed my peers' assignments. It doesn't let you move forward in the course until you do that. When I reached the final video and the teacher said congratulations for completing the course, I was looking forward to the promised certificates that were 'recognized' by professionals. No certificates ever arrived. Customer service is a bot. The bot asked me to provide proof of completion every few days via email. I sent them links that would bring them to my completed assignments and the side menu that had highlighted in green every module I had completed. If it was a human being they would have gone to the links and seen the proof that I completed the course and all quizzes and assignments. The last correspondence I had the bot asked me to provide further screen shots along with the links and other screen shots I had sent. I called me credit card company to refute the $49 charge that left me with nothing. I also canceled my credit card because they are so fraudulent I believe they would continue to charge me each month. Absolutely disgusting company. I worked on that course and the assignments and quizzes for nothing in the end. Customer service is creepy as it is absolutely a bot just sending pretty much the same email correspondence, so it's clear no one is reading the consumer's emails.
They should be ashamed of themselves that they scam so many people out of money and those who are simply looking to further their careers through courses and promised certificates that don't exist. Run as fast as you can or just avoid them.

The worst company that is in existence.

I subscribed to Coursera for one month and enrolled in a class which uses a software required to complete assignments, however there was some issues with the software licensing midway through the class which meant I couldn't proceed with the course. However Coursera is unwilling to extend my subscription for the period that I couldn't access the software, their customer support is also very unprofessional and only provide canned answers that they cannot help.

Took two courses with Coursera, then had to take time off--they scam you into going into a "program" of seven courses that take WAY TOO long to complete so that they can continue to charge you $$ each month even though you can't finish all of the courses in the time they say you can. Once done, most employers I talked with thought they were a joke--no credit for any courses taken from them transfers or counts for anything. Very disappointing. Spent several months and hundreds of $$ on waste of time. Save yourself from this scam.

I signed up for a free Cousera program to qualify to join a volunteer organization. After the first two parts of the course, a request for payment popped up on the screen. When I contacted Coursea about this they said that I have to contact my organization. The organization said to contact Coursera. I then asked Coursera "customer service" to directly to resolve the problem with the organization. Cousera REFUSED!. The responses from Coursera appear to be AI generated. After spending hours on the the course and correspondence with Coursera, it is very disappointing to have no way to resolve their problem. AVOID COURSERA.

When they displayed "Enroll For Free" before I created an account, I thought, "Wow, if this course is free, that would be fantastic." But as soon I logged in, the button "Enroll For Free" changed to "Enroll", this infuriated me. Such kind of things are not expected from reputed organizations, and only fraud and scammy companies play such kind of cheap tactics to get people's personal information, so they have to create an account.

Somehow I got popups and ads about Coursera and a free trial. I fell for it and signed up with CC, and by default, as soon as the trial was over, which was 7 days I think, they automatically deducted 39$ as subscriptions with a no-refund policy for subscription pay. So, I directly deleted the account on Coursera. Btw, don't forget to cancel the subscriptions, otherwise they may charge you again.

Learning languages section: Chinese and Russian. Are you serious? Funny thing is learning Russian was requirement when the USSR was trying to take over Poland when my mom was going to school and they just wont let up. Sadly it is very obvious that the only languages they offer are from communist countries... and of course they are located in Mountain View. Just another faulty internat company destroying the area I grew up in.

I got two courses from them and the third one was fiasco. The first two were OK but the third one which was Python for beginners and was supposed to be free for one week I wasn't able to take due to some circumstances. However, when the free access expired they charged me without any notice, even after I intentionally asked them to cancel it. According to them the cancellation didn't work because I miss the exact timing with half an hour. Well guys I am on the other side of the planet, I've been your customer for more than an year and you are not able to make an exemption. Already spend several hundred dollars on your courses and for appreciation you busting me with another 70 bucks? Thanks! This of course made me regret using their services and automatically made me flee of them.

Got redirected to the coursera site from microsoft cloud certification site. Despite the course tag being 'Enroll Free' there was a convoluted sign up that asks for your Credit Card details all with the intention for you to sign up for 1 month and forget to cancel, which I did. The 'free' course cost be 60 Dollars, its little more than a way of getting a month's subscription for you. Even the course is poor - all videos, no grahpical explanations, DON'T BOTHER WITH IT.

I've only used Coursera's free courses. I use Coursera or EDx (and similar platforms) to get more information on a topic. By no means should someone think the courses are equivalent to a university course. They are designed to be easy to pass, for the masses.

But they are helpful when you want to learn more a little bit more about a topic or to get book resources the course recommends (then you can more).

I would never pay for a certificate from these entities.

Tip for consumers:
Some courses are more useful than others. It's hit or miss.

Right now I am taking a course designed by a Yale professor. It has greater quality than many other courses offered on Coursera. Be mindful of which university is representing the course because that usually correspond to its quality.

Never pay for a certificate. Just do the free courses.

I was really enjoying my class in Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT, but when it came time to submit the first assignment, I couldn't enter it. Just simple text, nothing fancy. I got this error message: "Looks like there's an error. The server encountered an internal error. Try the action again or refresh your page. If you continue to see this error please contact support for help."

It's six days since I first emailed customer support. I did everything they suggested, cleared cache and cookies, logged out and back in, sent screenshots, opened the Java console. After doing that, I never heard back.

I've requested a refund. I will never recommend Coursera and will share my experience wherever I can. I'm extremely disappointed. I was very interested in the course and would have been glad to take additional courses. They lost a customer forever with their terrible customer service.

Tip for consumers:
The course content was interesting and well presented. I can't rate value or quality, because I was only able to complete one week. I would have loved to finish this course, but customer service ignored me when I needed help submitting my assignment.
