The Alexia Foundation (http://www.alexiafoundation.org/) has the noble goal of helping professional and amateur photographers produce stories and portfolios that promote world peace and understanding. Grants of up to $15,000 per project are available to suitably qualified applicants.
The quality of their winners' pictures is usually stunning. Check out http://www.alexiafoundation.org/archives/
I am an especial fan of Jan Dago's work.

T N. wow, these are amazing. i just happened to click on one that caught my eye, and the portfolio covers femicide in guatemala, where i lived for almost 4 years. 3000 women murdered in 7 years. heartbreaking. thanks for sharing this.
T N. by the way, that was walter astrada: http://www.alexiafoundation.org/archives/walter-astrada-2009/proposal/
K D. So much talent...
