I visited Advanced Eye Center Gainesville, GA in May 2014 to have my eyes examined. I had been experiencing blurry vision when reading. During this initial visit as I waited in an exam room for Dr. Ackerman I was shown a video regarding the benefits of cataract surgery. When the dr came into the room he began talking about the need for cataract surgery before he had even looked at my eyes. He did tell me that a $500 lens (not covered by my insurance) would help my vision and possibly help my astigmatism. Taking his advice, I had cataract surgery at Advanced Eye Center in Gainesville, GA performed by Dr. Ackerman on May 20,2014. I did pay out of pocket for the expensive lens that was recommended. After the surgery, my eye was no better, in fact it was worse than it had been pre-surgery. After several post op visits, Dr. Ackerman said that he would do a 'procedure' to 'take care of the astigmatism' and he would do it 'free of charge.' A week after the procedure, my wife and I went to Dr. Ackerman's office for a post op visit. After we had waited for two hours past my scheduled appointment, Dr. Ackerman came into the examination room. He was talking rapidly, appeared very agitated, gave me no opportunity to talk and told me that he had read my chart and that whether I admitted it or not, my eyesight was "perfect" according to tests. I asked him why my vision was no better than before the initial surgery and the follow up procedure, at which point he raised his voice, told me that he NEVER told me that the surgery would take care of the astigmatism and when I tried to ask another question, he replied in a loud voice, "If you ask that again, I am walking out of the room." This was all said in front of my wife and one of his assistants. He became more and more bullying in his manner, began saying that my wife and I did not understand the 'technology' involved and that he had 12 years of higher education and graduated at the top of his class. My wife told him that he was belittling in his manner and that we were not impressed with him telling us his credentials. We were concerned about the fact that my eye was no better after surgery and we would like an explanation of what was going on. She also mentioned that if he knew (which he admitted) about the astigmatism pre surgery, why would he have not dealt with it then? At that point Ackerman said, "I am not dealing with you any more. You can go get a second opinion. I am through with you." My wife and I never once raised our voices or said anything inappropriate. This doctor is unprofessional, bullying, extremely confrontational and has a temper that is frightening.
